We are in Tuscany, on the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, in the municipality of Vicchio, Giotto's birthplace. In the surrounding countryside, near Ponte a Vicchio, there is a large area with swimming pools and tennis courts and a good restaurant, La casa del prosciutto, very popular with locals. From Ponte a Vicchio are possible excursions by bike on cycle paths; the area is full of small other taverns and refreshment places. In Vicchio there are shops, supermarkets, ATMs. There is the Post Office and the railway station. Near the lake of Vicchio you can practice horse riding, canoeing, archery. In the Mugello there is a racetrack, where motorcycling and motor racing are held (exit on the Bologna-Florence, Barberino exit).
For archeology enthusiasts in Dicomano, not far from Vicchio, there is a small archaeological museum with Etruscan finds from nearby sites. At Poggio di Colla, in the municipality of Vicchio, excavations are still in progress. There is also an itinerary to discover places of scenic, cultural, artisan and gastronomic interest in the Mugello area (info: www. Mugello-toscana. It). In Villore the Tre Castagni pizzeria is open on the weekend evenings.
The town where the house is located is called Villore. It is about 42 km from Florence and can be reached in just under an hour.
For those coming by motorway, exit at Barberino junction, on the Florence-Bologna stretch. At the exit of Barberino there is a large autlet. From the Barberino motorway exit go along Vicchio (CAP 50039) and then you reach Villore in just over 50 minutes.
The place is extremely quiet. Only the rustling of the water of the stream and the chirping of birds breaks the silence. A few meters away from the house passes the path of the Italian Alpine Club used by mountain hikers and mountain hikers, sometimes even in mountain bikes.
The site is a "locus amenus". For the Latin peoples a locus amenus had to have three characteristics: being on a water course; being immersed in greenery; have a large wooded area populated by wild animals.
