About Sioban Shaw
We moved to Canada from the UK in 2010. We live in the GTA and had to get the cottage to escape suburbia! We love our weekends and holidays here. It is so relaxing. The kids have grown up on the lake and love all that there is to do. We did a lot of research and believe that Stoney Lake has got to be one of the best within easy reach of Toronto. We were very lucky to find it!
Sioban Shaw purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Sioban Shaw chose Selwyn
This property is off the busy lake and benefits from the sun all day. You can have coffee on one patio in the morning and enjoy the sunsets from the gazebo or dock in the evening. It is also so well equipped with A/C, laundry and is just the perfect size.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage benefits from an elevated view which is just stunning.

SERENE, TRUE R&R
Our stay was fantastic - no complaints. We arrived on Saturday for our 4pm checkin. It was great to be able to cook a quick meal before relaxing, as we had made a 5 hour car trek. The following morning, we drove to the city of Peterborough (30 min) to grocery shop at Costco/Walmart before heading back to the rental property and await the arrival of my parents. We swam in the lake and made use of the peddle boat until the rain arrived. Fortunately, it only rained on that first full day, and we had gorgeous weather for the remainder of the week - - - we made visits to Petroglyphs Provincial Park, the Burleigh Falls locks, the Warsaw Caves, Sandy Beach in Buckhorn, Indian River Reptile Zoo, and the village of Lakefield. Mornings were spent exploring the above points of interest, having a picnic lunch, and then heading back to the rental to enjoy the pool deck/dock and use of non motorized water toys (kayak, canoes, SUP's and peddle boat). Excellent location for some true peace and serenity. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to have a week away from the city and looking to spend quality family time in cottage country! Thanks to the owner for promptly replying to any/all questions.
Thank you so much for providing the detailed review. It is always great to hear guests enjoyed their time at the cottage and your review is really helpful for others.
Beautiful cottage in a tranquil setting
We spent two weeks in Moonraker and fully enjoyed our stay. The cottage is roomy, bright and clean with a terrific view of the inlet off Stoney Lake. Everything we needed was available from cooking facilities to firewood to sleeping accommodations. There is a bit of a climb up and down from the dock but the upside of that is the view over the water.
Overall, we can recommend Moonraker very highly.
Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at the cottage.
Comfortable cottage met all our expectations
All six of us enjoyed our stay at this very well located cottage. My son and his friend loved having a place of their own in the bunkie. There was lots of space to sit outside and enjoy the nature, including water view. And it was very convenient to have the canoes on site. We made good use of them as well as the paddleboat, and kayak. There are lots of islands and shores to explore by canoe, from the cottage. And for times indoors - monopoly, and Wii, and DVD's.
Sioban was very helpful throughout, and always reachable during our stay for questions.
The cottage was everything we had hoped for. It is clean and well equipped, exactly as advertised. Thank you for sharing your property with us.
So glad you enjoyed your stay.
Stayed June 3 - June 10, 2017 We all had a wonderful time!
We had a wonderful at this cottage on Stoney Lake. There are two bedrooms and a bunk house which our grandchildren claimed as their own. The house is very bright with the sky lights and large windows which give you great views of the cove and woods. The kitchen was very well stocked. We had friends over one day and were able to seat 12 people confortable at the dining room table. Both bathrooms were very roomy and served the seven of us very well. We brought our small fishing boat with us and had no trouble finding the dock from the Burleigh Falls marina with the directions we were given. The kids and adults had a great time using the kayak, canoes and paddle boat. The quiet cove was a great place for the grandkids to learn to paddle and navigate. We had a whole chest of games to choose from and found some new favorites. The upper patio area had a large table with chairs and a nice canopy cover and the fire ring area had plenty of chairs and firewood was provided We made us of the washer and dryer so we didn't have to pack as much for our long trip. As we were told, the internet was spotty and we had to reboot the router a few times a day. The beds were very comfortable. And perhaps it is a local way to doing things but we were surprised that there were no top sheets or blankets, just the comforters with duvets. Overall, this was a great place to stay and enjoy the outdoors!
So glad you enjoyed your stay. We are very fortunate with such a lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Always delighted when others enjoy it too!
Week of Aug 20-27 2016
We had a great time at the Moonrakers cottage! Besides bringing your own towels, everything else is provided for. A great spot for relaxing on the deck and by the fire pit. The week was very quiet with few cottages seeming to have people around.
Plenty of water sport activities kept us busy and there was lots of fishing right from the dock (32 steps down).
We brought our own boat and the docking for it worked very nicely. With having a jet drive boat, I’m always worried about weeds in the water that the boat can suck up. The channel that Moonrakers is on is well maintained by the cottage owners... the other channels in the area not so much. So was very happy with that. Note: the Kawartha Park Marina ramp was much better for a 20' boat than the Burleigh Falls Inn ramp.
Shopping for anything is close enough by car... but much more fun by boat!
The bunkie was excellent for our older son... gave him his own space to hang out in.
Our only challenge was the internet. We were told upfront it wasn’t the best, but we struggled getting our IPad to access any internet pages beyond Hotmail and Facebook. We never did figure out how to get on Netflix (as told we could use if we had an account). We aren’t the most technically inclined, so perhaps some instructions on how to get past the ‘Bell Connect’ screens and/or setup the Comcast would have been helpful. This didn't bug me so much (wasn't there for the internet), but kids were a bit frustrated.
Overall a great vacation in a great location.
Thanks for taking the time to post a review. Helpful notes regarding boat launch for jet boats. Sorry about the internet - Bell had reset the router which is why it kept coming up with the error. We have fixed it but as we have noted the connection is not always reliable. I understand this is frustrating for the kids but sometimes it works in our favour as it gets them off devices and enjoying what cottage life should be about!!
