Good location but poor value
Overall we believe this apartment is in a good location but is not good value.
We stayed in the apartment at the beginning of September 2014. We were obliged to pay upfront the full amount, including end-of-stay cleaning given how close we booked the apartment to the arrival date. The reason for choosing it was based on location, it is in the old town and if I am honest this is the best thing it has going for it.
We felt that apartment was not prepared for paying guests. The carpets were dirty and storage space cluttered with little to no room for unpacking our suitcases. There was a bike parked in the kitchen, and kitchen appliances were not working properly. In the bathroom, the shower drain was blocked and on contacting the owner it was suggested that we try unblock it ourselves-not what we had anticipated doing on a holiday. Some of the floor tiles were loose and could be dangerous.
I am sad to hear that Caren did not enjoy her stay. My apartment is also my holiday home so I do not agree that the kitchen appliances were not working as I used them all only last week- end.
I think it is usual to ask for all the money upfront if you give short notice before your arrival.
The carpet ( there is one in the sitting room had just been dry cleaned professionally a few weeks earlier ) so this untrue. The small flatweave rug in the bedroom was certainly not dirty when I was there last week end.The apartment is located in the centre of the old town, 2 roads parallel from the sea wall and as it is a very old building unfortunately they are dusty as the stonework ( which was repaired /replaced last summer ) is dusty and crumbly by nature so maybe that is what Caren means by dirty. I had professional cleaners in a few days before her stay but you do get dust ,all the same.
The bike parked in the kitchen is for holiday makers use as well as my own . This has to be stored there as there is nowhere in the old town where you can leave a bike , particularly if no one is there for any length of time ( as during winter/spring etc ). I wish there was somewhere else to store it !
The shower should have been clear as the cleaners had just been in and I apologised for any inconvenience but all that this entailed was for Caren to pour some drain "un blocker" down the plug hole and then some water on top to flush it through. The product was already in the flat. I informed her where it was stored and tried to be helpful.
I have had visitors including friends staying and all of them say it is a truly lovely atmospheric place in a great location. I have even had people coming back three times so maybe Caren needs to book a 5 star hotel next time!
A TRUE TASTE OF ITALY
Arrived in Alghero a family of four with two teenagers dubious of whether this would be as good as the usual Canary Island sojourn. What can I say it was and more! The apartment itself was exactly as it says on the box. With its beautiful decor in true keeping with the historic atmosphere and the homely touches it felt like a home from home and you felt very priviliged that someone was allowing you to share a home that such a lot of time and attention had gone into. After dining out on several occasions we discovered the local fish /meat and vegetable markets and the little pastry coffee house enroute. The local Sisa supermarket was up here and only a few minutes from the apartment. The small courtyard proved a Godsend with us using it constantly for meals and coffee and to read and play scrabble during our stay. A little oasis of calm with the sound of the Cathedral bells in the background. The kitchen had every thing you could possibly need to cook which enticed us for the first time ever to do so. The sound of a horse sporadically clip clopping by really lent to the atmosphere. The apartments location is perfect as it is quiet but very central with the little boutiques, craft shops restaurants etc. a stones throw away. The marina and walls proved a lovely walk in the evenings while the little gelato shops and cafes proved very tempting. All in all a great holiday which more than met our expectations.Alghero is very unspoilt, A true taste of Italy!
This review sums up my apartment very well. Thank you very much!
Alghero is a beautiful medieval sea side town with a picturesque marina and plenty of activities including:
Scuba diving, sailing, cycling, horse riding, swimming and walking.
There are wonderful fresh fruit ,vegetable and fish and meat markets selling local seasonal produce in the old town. The cobbled streets, friendly people and historical sites give Alghero it's unique atmosphere.
The sandy beach is a 15 min walk from the apartment.
Via Principe Umberto is one of the most interesting streets of the old town with the Cathedral at one end and another church at the other. There are many fantastic restaurants and cafes and bars on your doorstep serving typical Sardinian dishes and fantastic wine. (Which I can thoroughly recommend).
