Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + 2 Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-7)
We have travelled all around the country over the years, but the best times have always been spent with family and friends at our places in Connecticut and Florida. Cherished memories have been made there and we are so happy to be able to share our homes with our guests so that they can do the same.
Janet purchased this Cottage in 1996
Why Janet chose Ashford
For as long as I can remember, my dream was to wake up, get a cup of coffee, and walk to the water's edge. We searched and searched for a quiet private lake near our home in Connecticut and came upon this one. It was perfect. Ashford Lake is clean and peaceful. We can see the sunrise every morning. I can't tell you the amount of wildlife I've seen - herons, ducks, geese, and a great surprise - 2 muskrats floating on their backs enjoying the early morning sun, right in front of the cottage! Over the years we have enjoyed 4th of July fireworks, had family picnics, caught a 12-inch bass, gazed in awe at the beautiful fall foliage, and watched an impromptu kids ice hockey game on the frozen lake in a snowstorm in January!
What makes this Cottage unique
More than anything, we enjoy having this special lakefront cottage all to ourselves when we are there. It is secluded, but within less than an hour's drive of many things to do, and if you live in Connecticut, probably close enough to run back to your office if need be, while the rest of the family enjoys the outdoors! Swimming, fishing, star-gazing, games on the lawn, hiking on our dirt roads and nearby trails, visiting nearby UCONN, the antique shops of CT, the Woodstock and Brooklyn Fairs, listening to live music at The Vanilla Bean cafe... There is so much to do, but on the flip side, you can just relax.

Much needed R & R
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful week vacation at this Ashford property. The area is lush and private and even though we only live an hour away, it felt like a getaway. The house was beautiful, with plenty of natural light and great views of the lake. We had a great time fishing, watching herons on the lake, lounging in the yard, and going into town to the Dairy Bar. When a small issue arose, the owners responded immediately and accommodated us. We were also surprised by how comfortable the furniture is. Overall, a wonderful experience. We will definitely be renting again.
moon shining on the water

Lovely Easter Stay at Ashford Lake
Our daughter is a UCONN post graduate student and we have been looking for a nice, convenient place to stay with our two toy poodles when we visit her. I would like to say that the cottage was very clean, appreciatively quiet, and convenient to Storrs. Janet had thoughtfully provided a Britta pitcher for filtered water in response to previous complaints. The freezer was well stocked with ice (which was much appreciated) and there were more then enough supplies in the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room. Yes, the dryer door was in need of being propped - however Janet thoughtfully left a note and apologized for the inconvenience. The Wifi was excellent which helps with a family, all of whom have one or more electronic devices! My adult children loved playing one of the many board games and watching movies using a VCR (it rained most of the time we were here). The television is vintage which was just part of the charm because let's be honest if you have Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime you are going to be watching on your personal electronic device. Communication with Janet was very convenient and we followed her "rules of the road". I carefully review traveler’s comments and then I consider the situation and location. Folks if you are staying in a cottage on a lovely, quiet lake you are going to experience some humidity, well water, and conservation issues. That's just reality. For my family this was just what we were looking for and we will definitely be returning!
