About Lizzie Price
I grew up near the sea in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, but have travelled and lived in quite a few interesting places, including the Sudan, Cyprus and India. I was looking for an alternative lifestyle here in the south of France, when I quite by chance stumbled upon this ancient farmhouse. It was love at first sight. This was in the year 2000. I still love it here amongst the hills of cherry orchards and vines and never cease to appreciate the beauty surrounding me. Some of my family live nearby now which is a huge bonus.
Why Lizzie Price chose Reynès
The charm and timeless quality of this old stone farmhouse with its barrel ceilings, old beams and arches, captivated me, as did the idyllic surroundings. Below the garden a small river runs and all around are hills of ever changing colour from the bright yellow mimosa in winter, to the pale cherry blossom in spring. It is a truly enchanting place. It is just 20 minutes from the Spanish border, and just 40 mins from the Costa Brava. Being in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the walking possibilities are endless. The wonderful old market town of Ceret is just a few minutes drive and here one may sit and sip cofffee in one of the many pavement cafes below the plane trees. Picasso painted beneath these same trees. Altogether a magical place to live

We just loved the apartment, it was absolutely beautiful.
We were absolutely blown away by how lovely the apartment was. It had loads of character, yet it was in a very tranquil setting. The apartment had all the latest appliances which is something you usually don't find in a rental apartment. Lizzie, the home owner, was very warm and welcoming. We had a few small problems with the TV (self inflected), and every time Lizzie quickly came to rescue. This was our forth year coming to the area, and each time we have stayed in different accommodations. We don't have to look for another accommodation for when we return next year. We definitely want to stay in La Cave again, and we have already booked our dates with Lizzie. I wish I could give the apartment (and Lizzie) more than 5 stars, as they definitely deserve it!
Connie and Les, you were lovely guests. I enjoyed your stay here very much and look forward to your return visit next year. La Cave will be waiting for you. I am very happy that you enjoyed your stay here at this lovely old house. Keep well. Love Lizzie
Very nicely decorated, clean, well equipped, good location for local walking & Ceret also has a pool
La Cave is as it says like a cave, its the old cellars of the house(Mas). There are 2 bedrooms each with their own shower rooms. Both have large beds, one is within the cellar so no windows the other leads open plan into a lounging area with patio doors out onto the patio beyond. The kitchen is well equipped with most things you would need and leads to another lounging area and another set of patio doors onto the same outside patio area which is large.
There have been reviews saying the Gite is damp but we found two de-humidifiers one in each bedroom which are set-up to run during the day and they kept the place nice and dry for us even after a really heavy thunderstorm one day.
If I have a negative its a small one in that there is an apartment above and to the left of the Gite that has a small balcony/patio of its own which does overlook the large patio of La Cave. The apartment is not rented but owned and the couple who are only part time residents who visit from the UK a few times a year and were very nice and also quiet.
The pool is lovely with both deep and shallow ends and despite the region having the coolest/wettest spring in 50 years was still around 24c in mid June and we swam everyday after walking in the area.
Lizzie the owner is normally around to help if you need anything and there's a Lidl 4 mins and an Intermarche 10 mins away by car. You can walk to the local boulangere about a 30min round trip or 2-3 mins each way in the car.
Ceret centre is about 1hr 15min walk each way either on country roads or footpaths over the local hills and is only 10 mins by car. The Le Jardin restaurant in Ceret has a nice courtyard out the back for lunch and serves a very good 3 course Menu Du Jour for about 17 Euros.
We even saw a Golden Oriole on our first day just 5 mins walk up the road from the Gite.
Ceret Market is big and run along both sides of several of the towns streets, its very crowded so worth a look round but avoid it if you don't like being in a solid mass of slow moving people. Also there's a Catalan bread stall selling fancy olive, Walnut and fruit breads by the Kilo, the bread is great bread but a lump about the size of a British shop brought loaf is about 18Euros!!! You have been warned.
Thank you Claudia for taking the time to write this review. It is good that it is in German, too.
It was truly lovely having you stay and thank you so much for leaving the apartment in such perfect condition. It is appreciated.
I hope very much that you will return to Mas Pallares another year.

It was a pleasure to have Patricia and her family stay at Mas Pallares. They were a lovely, family - charming and friendly, and I look forward to them returning some day soon
This general area offers a wide diversity of attractions. It is at the gateway to the Vallespir - a region of outstanding natural beauty in the Pyrenees-Orientales, and the most southerly valley in France. It is a region that is tree-clad with mountains, rivers, gorges, abundant wildlife, good wines and the earliest cherries in France. As well as being less than half an hour from the Mediterranean - with its miles of golden beaches - and the Spanish Costa Brava, the old market town of Ceret with its medieval arches and sleepy squares is fast becoming an important cultural centre in the region, having once been home to Picasso, Soutaine & Dali, amongst others. The Languedoc has much to offer historically, too, perhaps most noteworthy being its Templar & Cathar heritage, with many castles and Rennes Le Chateau (featured in the Da Vinci Code) within 1 & half hrs drive away. There is also a wealth of ancient abbeys and Romanesque architecture close at hand
Other Activities: cannoning, white water rafting, birdwatching
