The Blue Lagoon: The Blue Lagoon is an hour's drive from Selvogur.
Seltún: Some 25 km from Selvogur (about 25 min drive) is the famed Krýsuvík geothermal area, Seltún, with its amazing solfataras, boiling mud springs, blowing steam vent and astonishing palette of colour. Just a few minutes’ drive from there are the stunning Krýsuvíkurberg cliffs, where sea birds by the thousands nest and the rolling waves of the Atlantic crash against the rugged shore. Both are examples of amazing natural beauty.
Watching the horses next door play was wonderful and the walk to the beach and church were cold and windy, but beautiful! An excellent location to see all the stars!
What an amazing location to venture out for day excursions. Steinunn and Fridrik made us feel so welcome and provided so much helpful information. It was overcast and rainy when we were there so it was a great, warm place to relax after a day of exploration. Our last night, we had beautiful clear skies and bright moon over the ocean. We had the pleasure of experiencing the Northern Lights that night. It was a beautiful place to watch the lights dance in the sky. Thank you for opening up your home to us.
We enjoyed our stay in this cute and cozy home on the ocean in southwest Iceland. Clean and roomy; loved having a kitchen to make breakfast and pack a lunch for our adventures. Great location for day trips to the Golden Circle, Reykjavik, Snaefellsnes, and Vik. The owners are easy to work with and are ready with helpful suggestions for nearby activities. Beautiful views from the house, fun walk to the nearby lighthouse, and a little café just across the street. Easy access to restaurants, fuel, and groceries in nearby Porlakshofn and Selfoss.
Steinunn's farmhouse was a delight. The house is charming -- lots of room, and well equipped. The seaside setting in the middle of a horse farm was beautiful -- you can hear and see the waves crashing from all the rooms. Our hosts were so helpful -- even before we arrived -- with advance tips on local shopping, wine prices, etc. When we were delayed in arrival they called to check on us, and guide us to the house. There is an extensive library of guidebooks and reading material on the area. The location (about 20 minutes from Selfoss) was perfect for exploration of the south coast between Reykjavik and Vic. Would return in a heartbeat.
We loved our stay at Thorkelsgerdi II. The house had plenty of toys for our kids so they could enjoy themselves while my husband and I planned our next day trip. We had some trouble with the dryer or couldn't figure out how to get the warm air going, but other than that everything was perfect. A drying rack is provided though. The house is in a remote location which we loved, has a giant back yard (with horses next door) and a path to the beach. We did day trips to Reykjavik, Blue Lagoon, Geysir, Efsti-dalur, Thingvellir, Gulfoss, Stong and Gjain. Just for our trip to Jokulsarlon, we booked a stay at a nearby hotel since we felt that drive (4.5 hour one way) was not doable for us in 1 day (but which Steinunn had told us in advance). We had a terrific trip and have many fond memories. Thank you Steinunn!
Our family of four spent 4 nights in the house and the stay was excellent. The reservation was very easy and Steinunn was an outstanding host. Communications were easy and Steinunn sent us several helpful links to websites that would assist us in our stay. The location is perfect, it is secluded, with only a 2 min walk to the beach. It is close to most major sites in the golden circle, so it was perfect for day trips. I highly recommend this house and Steinunn for your stay in Iceland.
