Villa Elvira some 100 meters above the sea set on 1.6 hectares of land, overlooking the Towers, the village, the bay and the ever changing vistas of the Islands of Kefalonia and Ithaka, across the sapphire blue sea.
The house is situated on a sunny hillside facing south with sun from sunrise till sunset. The accommodation for up to 8 people has a relaxed sense of luxury mixed with the feeling that the Gods must be close by, judging by the beauty of the surroundings. In the spacious living area is the cooking unit as the hart of the house. Four bedrooms are situated in the wings that face the the terras, the pool and the sea. Each bedroom has its own shower and toilet and direct acces to the terras and the pool. On the terras you have a magnificant vieuw over Vasiliki and Vasiliki bay with the islands of Ceffalonia and Ithaka on the horison. The house has a unique climate control system which keeps the house cool in summer without cold droughts. The temperature in the house is constant throughout the year. If you have problems with ordinary air conditioning, this is your place.
First of all, I think it's important to say that the entire experience was excellent even from before we arrived at the Villa. There were nine of us (7 adults and two young children), and we needed a place that was big enough for all of us, of excellent standard (and by that I mean luxury). The whole booking process and communications with Ella and Gerard were rapid, responsive and always very accommodating.
There is so much to say about this Villa, but here are a few highlights for us:
* The huge pool was very well maintained, and very clean.
* Lots of space for everyone
* There was a Piano and a classical guitar there (I put brand new strings on it while I was there, so the next guests will really enjoy it!) - so it was great for a musical family like us
* Large Barbeque which we used several times.
* Super private. Both the Villa itself, and inside the villa (bedrooms)
* You will get a great night's sleep here since it is well away from any roads or traffic, the beds are comfortable and the shutters and windows keep all noise out!
The Villia is nice and high up with that AMAZING view, and it catches a nice breeze so at night it is much more bearable than down in the town.
As a destination, what we liked a lot about Vasiliki is that it is lovely town, mainly with restaurants, and a few essential shops. What this means is that it is not like Nidri which is a really busy tourist town, with hundreds of bars and nightclubs. Nidri is a good place to go to though - and it's where we went to buy fresh fish for our barbeque.
What you need to know is that this Villa is actually the owners' own home, and they live there for 9 out of 12 months of the year. So that means the place just has that really homely feel, with all the amenities, appliances, utensils, crockery and cutlery that you could ever need. It's an awesome place for those who really love to cook. With really good appliances and even a full set of Global knives, which we really appreciated.
The litmus test is : would we go back again? Absolutely yes....in a heartbeat. But remember it's only available for 3 months of the year, and unsurprisingly gets booked up well in advance due to the number of repeat guests they have.
We adored Mirela the owners' full-time housekeeper, who came by every morning to check how we were doing, and help us with anything we needed. She even made us a special cake.
We loved this place, and you will too. Thanks Ella, Gerard and Mirela!
One of the Ionian islands, Lefkada is the only island you can drive to on the West coast of Greece - it is attached to the mainland by a fifty meter floating bridge.
Lefkada island has much to offer: impressive landscapes, long golden sandy beaches, dazzling blue sea, traditional villages, archaeological sites and museums, several animated beach resorts with many activities, perfect wind conditions for windsurfing and kite surfing and sailing through its ten surrounding islets is idyllic.
Vasiliki is at the south and is the windsurfer's and kite-surfer's paradise. The port is lined with shops and cafes and of course, after dark there is a lively night-life scene.
Whether you prefer peaceful holidays, educational or active ones, Lefkada is one of those top destinations.
