Beautiful converted croft house with stunning views

Bedrooms 3
Space 376 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

3 bedroom cottage accommodating 5-6

West Cottage was built around 1870 as a typical croft house with a byre beside it but gradually deteriorated during the 1990s until it was in danger of becoming derelict. In 2007 the old cottage was stripped back to the stone shell; it was re-roofed and completely refurbished to a very high standard and a large living-room was built on the end of the old house on the site of the former byre. The cottage offers comfortable accommodation over 2 floors. The living room, kitchen/dining and double bedroom with en-suite shower are on the ground floor with a further double bedroom, twin room and bathroom upstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room has well-stocked book shelves, a wood burning stove and a colour TV. There is wifi throughout the house.

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved West Cottage. It has been refurbished to a very high standard whilst keeping the authentic “Croft” feel. The downstairs ensuite bedroom was perfect for my 92 year old Mum & the view from the sitting room is just breathtaking - even better when the weather’s good enough to enjoy the view sitting outside with a gin & tonic (which it was this week!)

Tranquil Splendour on Skye

  • 5 of 5

West Cottage is a lovely house, quietly situated with superb views from large windows. You could relax all week just watching the scenery, but it's a great base to go exploring from too.

Locally, there are plenty of secrets to discover - including Kat Lenz's Pottery just down the hill; boutiques and great gifts around Armadale Pier and the really splendid Clan Donald Museum and picturesque grounds at Armadale Castle.

There's much more to do at Broadford and beyond, but before even going that far, drop in to An Crubh - the community café/shop/post office near Isleornsay - wonderful.

Our party of four enjoyed a great week, made better by an upturn in the weather. From a not-untypical Skye rainy start, we were treated to glorious sunny, breezy weather for the following four days - hot enough to know that we were each short of t-shirt - but with enough breeze every day to keep any midges at bay!

The whole experience of being at West Cottage is one any of us would easily repeat.

FANTASTIC holiday - could not have asked for more!

  • 5 of 5

Wow - West Cottage is amazing! We had a fantastic long weekend stay in Teangue, and we could not have asked for more. The house is fantastic and kitted out with everything you need - and more books than you could read in a few months! The view is spectacular, and we got some fantastic sunsrises, and moons over the water. We even got a visit from the local deer on our first night! Thank you for such a fantastic holiday, we would recommend this to everyone!

One of the loveliest places on Skye

  • 5 of 5

Great cottage with everything you need in a beautiful part of the Isle. Sleat is fantastic as a point to see the rest of the island. Sleat Peninsula itself is beautiful. We even toured the finally opened Torabhaig distillery in its first week of opening. The beach down by Torabhaig is a must when tide is out. The cottage itself has all the amenities including great wifi. The views were amazing and Helen was very helpful. Very simple process to check in and check out. Great holiday for relaxing, sightseeing and walking. Highly recommend the cottage and Isle of Skye at this time of year to avoid the tourism rush. We loved it.

The most wonderfully renovated cottage with magnificent views.

  • 5 of 5

It really took our breath away. The location is spectacular and the cottage itself is probably the most tasteful, stylish and functional house we’ve ever rented, thank you Helen for doing such a lovely place. I would definitely recommend staying there! And it didn’t hurt that we had the most beautiful weather there could be, so the views were magnificent. x

Lovely, peaceful, comfy!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in an elevated position away from main roads with views over the loch to Glenelg. It’s really well equipped, very comfortable and the decor is relaxing. The views from the floor to ceiling windows in the sitting room are stunning. I could have sat all day, mesmerised by the changing light as the weather passed through. The wood burning stove was wonderful in the evenings. Helen the owner is lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful. This is a gem!

West Cottage is situated in upper Teangue, a quiet and secluded part of the Sleat Peninsula, with views across the Sound of Sleat to Knoydart. Sleat is known as 'the garden of Skye' and is the perfect base to stay. Ideal for walking, photography, boating and various water sports or just watching the wildlife. There is a reasonably well stocked grocer in Ardvasar (5 miles) and a large Co-op in Broadford (14 miles). There are several good restaurants within a short drive: Toravaig House is just at the bottom of the hill, Hotel Eilean Iarmain at Isle Ornsay (5 miles) offers both restaurant dining and has an atmospheric bar serving pub food and the Michelin starred Kinloch Lodge lies between Teangue and Broadford.
