West Cottage was built around 1870 as a typical croft house with a byre beside it but gradually deteriorated during the 1990s until it was in danger of becoming derelict. In 2007 the old cottage was stripped back to the stone shell; it was re-roofed and completely refurbished to a very high standard and a large living-room was built on the end of the old house on the site of the former byre. The cottage offers comfortable accommodation over 2 floors. The living room, kitchen/dining and double bedroom with en-suite shower are on the ground floor with a further double bedroom, twin room and bathroom upstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room has well-stocked book shelves, a wood burning stove and a colour TV. There is wifi throughout the house.

IDeal setting for a relaxing retreat
The cottage is located in a less tourist busy area on the south end of Skye quite off the main road to Armadale and the ferry. The view from the living room is breathtaking. I often sat there hours watching the sunrise, the Loch and the mountains on mainland. The cottage is well catered and Helen is the ideal caring owner. All amnemnities that you need are provided. Excellent bed and hot shower. I really enjoyed the 4 weeks Of my stay and want to go back next year.
The cottage fulfilled all our needs for a perfect holiday on Skye. It was warm and dry so welcome in the wind and rain. The living room space and view are magical. Can’t wait to return.
Charming, quiet, and peaceful
Everything we needed was provided, the space was more than adequate for 2 people, comfortable and with views that made each morning a pleasure to wake up to. Quiet and calm, we loved staying here and I'm very sad to have to leave. Thank you for such a memorable place to stay.
First visit to Skye & cottage perfect introduction
We stayed at Helen’s cottage for a week. Great location and well equipped and comfortable house. Beautiful views from sitting room and added bonus of extensive book collection. Good base for exploring southern Skye and also for excursions to the north. Lovely area and really helpful hosts. Thank you.
Well appointed home tucked away in the Scottish countryside with stunning views. Truly wonderful.
Beautiful well finished cottage with amazing views
The cottage was fantastic. It had great views, comfy beds, a very well equipped kitchen and a wonderfully cosy living area. What more could you want!
I would recommend this place to anyone. I hope I can stay here again when we next visit Skye.
Thanks - we were very glad that you enjoyed your holiday and were able to experience the sea-kayaking. Hope to welcome you back one day.
West Cottage is situated in upper Teangue, a quiet and secluded part of the Sleat Peninsula, with views across the Sound of Sleat to Knoydart. Sleat is known as 'the garden of Skye' and is the perfect base to stay. Ideal for walking, photography, boating and various water sports or just watching the wildlife. There is a reasonably well stocked grocer in Ardvasar (5 miles) and a large Co-op in Broadford (14 miles). There are several good restaurants within a short drive: Toravaig House is just at the bottom of the hill, Hotel Eilean Iarmain at Isle Ornsay (5 miles) offers both restaurant dining and has an atmospheric bar serving pub food and the Michelin starred Kinloch Lodge lies between Teangue and Broadford.
