Beautiful converted croft house in rural hamlet with stunning views

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

3 bedroom cottage accommodating 4-5

West Cottage was built around 1870 as a typical croft house with a byre beside it but gradually deteriorated during the 1990s until it was in danger of becoming derelict. In 2007 the old cottage was stripped back to the stone shell; it was re-roofed and completely refurbished to a very high standard and a large living-room was built on the end of the old house on the site of the former byre. The cottage offers comfortable accommodation over 2 floors. The living room, kitchen/dining and double bedroom with en-suite shower are on the ground floor with a further double bedroom, twin room and bathroom upstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room has well stocked book shelves, a wood burning stove and a colour TV.

Beautiful converted croft house in rural hamlet with stunning views
average rating of 5.0 based on 5 reviews

Lovely quiet cottage with breathtaking views.

  • 5 of 5

This is a very well appointed modern conversion of a characterful cottage.

On arrival down a very steep access road we weren't disappointed. It's very clean and comfortable, perfect for a relaxing home away from home. The views are simply stunning!

It's located quite conveniently for easy access to the mainland via bridge or Armadale ferry to Mallaig.

There aren't any shops for everyday groceries nearby so make sure to arrive prepared for at least that night and next morning.

We had a fantastic break, made all the more wonderful by the heavenly sunny weather, the landscape, the warm hospitality of the locals and the numerous wildlife sightings, and would certainly love to stay at West Cottage again.

Tips for Skye; plan your activities and book anything special like boat trips, ferries or restaurants in advance. Bring lots of midgie (bug) repellant.

Owner's Response: So pleased you enjoyed your stay at West Cottage. The deer are still grazing in the field in front of the house each evening. We can now offer a welcome hamper, on request.

what a place to relax and de-stress

  • 5 of 5

Our family holiday at this beautiful cottage, was the ideal place to relax and be a family without distractions. We happily did all the sightseeing recommended by the generous and knowing owners and it suited us all including a lively teenager. The holiday in spring gave us both sunshine and snow and the views from the cottage were made all the more remarkable because of the changes in the weather and scenery seen from the large windows. Although we had a television it was not necessary as we had too many other diversions with deer coming very close to the cottage and rabbits and birds in abundance.

The local pubs, restaurants and shops, although we needed the car to get to them, gave us the choice of eating out or getting food to cook ourselves and I would recommend the shop at the castle in Armadale; their venison was the best ever tasted and very reasonable. Take some home in a freezer bag!!!!

The cottage itself was of the highest standard and we needed for nothing. The rooms were furnished so well that it was a joy to stay and relax rather than rush out and it was a pleasure to cook in the kitchen with every utensil provided. The lounge was big enough for us all to do our own thing without disturbing each other - essential for the revising teenager in the evening.

My family have all agreed we will certainly book this cottage again in the near future - what a lovely way to relax.

We really enjoyed our stay in this cottage. The house is very well equipped, clean and its location is very quiet. The view from the cottage is also very beautiful. The owners gave us a warmful welcome, and we really appreciated it after our long trip (we came from the south of France with plane and car). They also gave us useful information about the places to visit and the restaurant where to go for eating (for example KIN LODGE RESTAURANT: delicious). The isle of Skye is a paradise for lovers of walking and climbing mountains, but there are also beautiful beaches. The landscape of the isle can be very different and surprising.

Our family : 2 adults and 2 children (12 and 8 years old), they also appreciated this stay and they were happy because they could see wales one evening from the Neist Point (west side of Skye). Our holidays were beautiful SUNNY and relaxing.

Thanks also to Wendy Cook who was efficient.

Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed last year in the house for one week and could have happily stayed there longuer. The house looks traditional from the outside with all needed modern equipment inside including very comfortable beds. The house was spotless. The surroundings are breathtaking, great views with barely any neighbours. Great attractions, visits and walks can be organised in the immediate vicinity of the house. The owners of the house are kind, have a very good knowledge of the region and are very helpful and not intrusive. I would strongly recommend this house and I am already planning to go back myself very soon.

Tranquil haven in Skye with wonderful views

  • 5 of 5

A stay in this lovely, well-appointed house in Skye is highly recommended. Wonderful views of Knock Castle below and mountains over the water - coffee on the terrace in perfect tranquility is hard to beat. House is recently renovated, perfectly maintained, very comfortable and equipped with all that is needed for a great break. Nowhere is very far away in Skye if you want an excursion to mountains, lochs, sea, local restaurants or monuments, but if you prefer to stay and enjoy the view, there is an extensive library to enjoy too. Access is up a short steep road, the owners' house shares the same drive and the house is not overlooked by anyone (except some birds overhead). We hope to return soon.

West Cottage is situated in upper Teangue, a quiet and secluded part of the Sleat Peninsula, with views across the Sound of Sleat to Knoydart. Sleat is known as 'the garden of Skye' and is the perfect base to stay. Ideal for walking, photography, boating and various water sports or just watching the wildlife. There is a reasonably well stocked grocer in Ardvasar (5 miles) and a large Co-op in Broadford (14 miles). There are several good restaurants within a short drive: Toravaig House is just at the bottom of the hill, Hotel Eilean Iarmain at Isle Ornsay (5 miles) offers both restaurant dining and has an atmospheric bar serving pub food and the Michelin starred Kinloch Lodge lies between Teangue and Broadford.
