Overview

About the property

3 bedroom cottage accommodating 5-6

West Cottage was built around 1870 as a typical croft house with a byre beside it but gradually deteriorated during the 1990s until it was in danger of becoming derelict. In 2007 the old cottage was stripped back to the stone shell; it was re-roofed and completely refurbished to a very high standard and a large living-room was built on the end of the old house on the site of the former byre. The cottage offers comfortable accommodation over 2 floors. The living room, kitchen/dining and double bedroom with en-suite shower are on the ground floor with a further double bedroom, twin room and bathroom upstairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The living room has well-stocked book shelves, a wood burning stove and a colour TV. There is wifi throughout the house.

West Cottage is situated in upper Teangue, a quiet and secluded part of the Sleat Peninsula, with views across the Sound of Sleat to Knoydart. Sleat is known as 'the garden of Skye' and is the perfect base to stay. Ideal for walking, photography, boating and various water sports or just watching the wildlife. There is a reasonably well stocked grocer in Ardvasar (5 miles) and a large Co-op in Broadford (14 miles). There are several good restaurants within a short drive: Toravaig House is just at the bottom of the hill, Hotel Eilean Iarmain at Isle Ornsay (5 miles) offers both restaurant dining and has an atmospheric bar serving pub food and the Michelin starred Kinloch Lodge lies between Teangue and Broadford.

Best cottage that we have ever stayed in, and will definitely be going back as soon as we can!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay here and were very sad to leave. The cottage is just fabulous and cosy with amazing views. It has everything that you need, we immediately felt so at home. We had mostly great weather, a couple of rainy mornings but you don't mind a bit as the Cottage is a lovely place to be whatever the weather. The Owners could not be nicer and are so helpful with great knowledge too of the Island. Skye is a popular place to visit so it was great that the driveway down to the cottage is private offering tremendous peace and tranquility on the south-side of the Island, we cannot recommend this place enough and will definitely being booking it again.

Lovely, peaceful, comfy!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is in an elevated position away from main roads with views over the loch to Glenelg. It’s really well equipped, very comfortable and the decor is relaxing. The views from the floor to ceiling windows in the sitting room are stunning. I could have sat all day, mesmerised by the changing light as the weather passed through. The wood burning stove was wonderful in the evenings. Helen the owner is lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful. This is a gem!

Inspirational Sleat!

  • 5 of 5

We have been travelling to the far west and north of Scotland now for several years. One of the attractions for us is the remoteness - together with the grandeur of the lochs and mountains that can both inspire and intimidate.

In recent years the Scottish highlands have become more accessible and islands like Skye are increasingly popular. But there are still places that remind you of the true majesty of your surroundings, and Sleat is one of those places.

West Cottage is situated on a hillside with tremendous views across the Sound of Sleat and to the mountains of Knoydart beyond. It retains a sense of isolation, although you're only a few miles from shops and restaurants (and if you really, really have to have it - free WiFi).

The cottage is beautifully refurbished and fully equipped with everything to keep you warm, comfortable and entertained. It is spotlessly clean with, for example, high quality bed linen and furnishings. The lounge and kitchen are large (we were two couples when we stayed), although you would struggle perhaps to seat six people, say, around the kitchen table. However, you could hole up here without any problem (if the weather is fickle), or use it as a base to tour the many attractions of Skye.

It is a place replete with lovely personal touches provided by the owners, not least a huge and varied library of books. This alone would persuade you to settle down with a selection and a glass of Talisker!

We have no hesitation in highly recommending this cottage for your temporary home on Skye. You will not be disappointed.

Lovely quiet cottage with breathtaking views.

  • 5 of 5

This is a very well appointed modern conversion of a characterful cottage.

On arrival down a very steep access road we weren't disappointed. It's very clean and comfortable, perfect for a relaxing home away from home. The views are simply stunning!

It's located quite conveniently for easy access to the mainland via bridge or Armadale ferry to Mallaig.

There aren't any shops for everyday groceries nearby so make sure to arrive prepared for at least that night and next morning.

We had a fantastic break, made all the more wonderful by the heavenly sunny weather, the landscape, the warm hospitality of the locals and the numerous wildlife sightings, and would certainly love to stay at West Cottage again.

Tips for Skye; plan your activities and book anything special like boat trips, ferries or restaurants in advance. Bring lots of midgie (bug) repellant.

Owner's Response: So pleased you enjoyed your stay at West Cottage. The deer are still grazing in the field in front of the house each evening. We can now offer a welcome hamper, on request.

what a place to relax and de-stress

  • 5 of 5

Our family holiday at this beautiful cottage, was the ideal place to relax and be a family without distractions. We happily did all the sightseeing recommended by the generous and knowing owners and it suited us all including a lively teenager. The holiday in spring gave us both sunshine and snow and the views from the cottage were made all the more remarkable because of the changes in the weather and scenery seen from the large windows. Although we had a television it was not necessary as we had too many other diversions with deer coming very close to the cottage and rabbits and birds in abundance.

The local pubs, restaurants and shops, although we needed the car to get to them, gave us the choice of eating out or getting food to cook ourselves and I would recommend the shop at the castle in Armadale; their venison was the best ever tasted and very reasonable. Take some home in a freezer bag!!!!

The cottage itself was of the highest standard and we needed for nothing. The rooms were furnished so well that it was a joy to stay and relax rather than rush out and it was a pleasure to cook in the kitchen with every utensil provided. The lounge was big enough for us all to do our own thing without disturbing each other - essential for the revising teenager in the evening.

My family have all agreed we will certainly book this cottage again in the near future - what a lovely way to relax.

RELAXING HOLIDAYS IN BEAUTIFUL COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this cottage. The house is very well equipped, clean and its location is very quiet. The view from the cottage is also very beautiful. The owners gave us a warmful welcome, and we really appreciated it after our long trip (we came from the south of France with plane and car). They also gave us useful information about the places to visit and the restaurant where to go for eating (for example KIN LODGE RESTAURANT: delicious). The isle of Skye is a paradise for lovers of walking and climbing mountains, but there are also beautiful beaches. The landscape of the isle can be very different and surprising.

Our family : 2 adults and 2 children (12 and 8 years old), they also appreciated this stay and they were happy because they could see wales one evening from the Neist Point (west side of Skye). Our holidays were beautiful SUNNY and relaxing.

Thanks also to Wendy Cook who was efficient.
