Overview

About the property

Reccently renovated, Thornbank Cottage is a cosy semi-detached cottage dating from the 1760's in the heart of the historic Borders village of Coldingham on the Berwickshire coast. Our home is a perfect place for a family holiday or for a group of friends to explore one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland.

The cottage has been recently refurbished to a high standard and is warm and comfortable with double glazing, underfloor heating, radiators and a log burning stove in the sitting room.

Upstairs there is accommodation for four guests in two bedrooms, one with a king sized bed and one with two single beds. There is also a new bathroom with bath and power shower.

Downstairs is a sitting room with log burning stove and smart TV, with Freesat. Comfortable sofas seat six. After a hard day at the beach or rambling along the coast or inland you can relax with a film, a family board game or keep up to date with friends and family through the Wifi internet. The kitchen / dining room is fully equipped, including fridge freezer, oven and grill, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine plus a dining table for up to six guests.

There is also a south facing sun-room, with chaise longue, arm chairs and a beanbag. This room leads to the secluded south facing patio garden with seating for outdoor eating and relaxing. The rear garden has a shed and storage area for bikes or for cleaning wetsuits or surfboards. At the front is a sunny garden and there is also off street parking.

All linen and towels are provided, but you should bring your own towels for the beach. There are also the basics you need to cater for yourselves such as olive oil, salt and pepper, flour, pasta, kitchen roll, toilet paper etc. All we ask is that you replace anything you use.

If you would like to have groceries delivered to the cottage after you have arrived, then Sainsburys, Asda and Tesco all deliver. So, just order your shopping on line and it will arrive while you are settling in.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I am delighted to write a review for this charming property owned by an equally charming lady, Milda.

The house itself is truly a home-from-home. We stayed for a few days in August 2017, 2 adults and 2 teenage children. This property would have been perfect when my children were tiny, it really is perfect if you have little ones – everything you might need in the cupboards (plates, beakers etc) and all safety things like stair gates. Plus room to put prams and not be falling over them.

The bed was the most comfy we have ever had when away from home, in fact we actually contacted Milda afterwards for details of this mattress so we could order one ourselves.

The house is also full of lovely touches such as twinkly lights! And the sun room is a lovely retreat with a book and a coffee.

Also just a short drive to the beach (which was gorgeous) and even has a surfers’ café! Ideal! We had burgers on the beach on a Tuesday afternoon; what more can you ask?!

Milda herself is lovely, and very keen to make sure you have everything you need.

I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely house. Thank you Milda!

Perfect holiday home!

  • 5 of 5

A lovely, spacious cottage, in a great location.

Very well equipped, nothing lacking at all, every home comfort!

Milda is an exemplary owner, not only has she thought of everything that you might possibly need, she also responded to any emails and queries immediately and was always very helpful.

Thank you for a great stay, I’m sure we’ll be back.

Great place to stay in Coldingham

  • 5 of 5

Thornbank Cottage is a fantastic place in which to stay. The cottage was very comfortable and clean with all the amenities that one would want in our own home. It's within walking distance to Coldingham Priory and pubs and a well-stocked supermarket nearby. It's also withing a short drive of picturesque fishing villages and castles. I highly recommend Thornbank Cottage as a place to stay when exploring the Scottish Borders and will surely stay there again.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Loved St Abbs and the many local coastal walks. Local pub was very handy also, The Anchor!

Great place to stay - friendly village which is a 3 minute car ride to an amazing beach

  • 4 of 5

A great house with all we needed. The town was friendly - with people offering advice on where to get fish and chips (Giacopazzis in Eyemouth) and other things. The beach was a walk (probably too long for family with small children) from the house, but driving was fine for us and only took a few minutes. We left something behind and Milda was very reassuring at letting us know it was found and she would post it back.

WELL EQUIPPED SPOTLESSLY CLEAN ACCOMMODATION

  • 5 of 5

We had an enjoyable week in this beautifully refurbished cottage. Comfortable furnishings and everything you could think of in the kitchen ! The weather was superb all week which allowed us to explore the area, including Northumberland. Fresh new laid hen and duck eggs available just next door and.a well stocked Spar shop a few hundred yards away for emergency supplies came in handy.

It was very quiet and peaceful when we stayed as it was before the school holidays began, however, there is a large caravan park further along the road so I'm not sure how much this would change things in high season.

We would definitely stay in this accommodation again if we were thinking of going to that region.

Finally, the owner Milda was quick to respond to emails with any questions you may have.

Beautiful place

  • 4 of 5

Had such a lovely time when we spent a little break in coldingham the cottage when we arrived even from the outside wowed me so quaint and well presented. The cottage itself was exactly how we imagined very clean modern all modcons but still with that cottage feel. The owners had everything covered and everything was on hand. My fave would have to be the little yard area we set up our chairs there and hit on a beautiful week of sunshine. Would definitely recommend this place

Coldingham grew up around the 12th Century Priory and is one of the prettiest villages in Scotland. Within a few minutes’ walk from the cottage are two friendly pubs. The village also has a café, a Spar convenience store, a butchers and post office with tourist information facilities. About a mile from the cottage is Coldingham Bay, which is well known for its surfing. From there walkers can join the Berwickshire Coast Path and the John Muir Way. Also close by is the port of St Abbs, a haven for diving, sea-fishing, boating and bird watching. Near to Coldingham is the beautiful Berwickshire coast and Scottish Borders for historic sightseeing, world famous golf courses and salmon and trout fishing. Finally, Edinburgh is only an hour away!
