Property type house

About the property

4-Bedroom Home With Relaxing Views Of The Cove, Close To Beaches, Hiking Trails

The house is a short drive from the BC Ferries terminal at Otter Bay, and is on the water - a small cove that is part of Bedwell Harbour and next to the canal that separates North Pender and South Pender. There is a floating dock at the house that we share with our neighbors. The "beach" in front of the house is accessible at lower tides. The beach at Mortimer Spit is a 10-minute walk from the house.

The house has space for parking 2 or 3 cars comfortably. There is a front patio/deck with beautiful views of the cove, patio furniture, and a propane grill.

Inside the house is equipped with all the necessities, including kitchen with oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and cooking utensils. There is a TV, VCR/DVD player and WiFi. In a back hallway there is a small laundry room with washer and dryer. A hairdryer and iron are also provided. The water supply for the house is a large cistern, supplied by a well. There is a reverse osmosis water tap in the kitchen and we provide drinking water in large jugs that fit a water cooler/dispenser in the kitchen.

The lower floor of the house is almost all open concept, which is great for family time together. There is a "living room" section with two leather chairs that look out through floor-to-ceiling picture windows at the spectacular view. An arm chair and a couch complete this area. There is a dining table made from reclaimed wood that seats 10. There is one larger bedroom on the lower floor that has sliding door access directly to the outside deck. This bedroom adjoins a full bathroom.

The upper floor has a balcony play/lounge area with 2 couches. At one end of the house is the Master Bedroom and Master Bath (with Jacuzzi tub and glass-block shower). The Master Bedroom has its own deck, and a fireplace. At the other end of the house there are two bedrooms, one with a Queen bed, the other with two twin beds.

We provide linens, towels, and basic supplies such as toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels, dishwasher soap, dish soap, laundry detergent, etc..

About Andrew Purcell

I grew up in BC - on Vancouver Island and in Vancouver. My career has taken me to the US and I now live in New Jersey, but this part of Canada is still "home", and this house is a special part of our family experience. We love to share it with our guests.

Andrew Purcell purchased this house in 2000

Why Andrew Purcell chose Pender Island

The house is all wood, and located in a great spot that gets a good amount of sunshine each day, and has wonderful views of the water. The trail to Mt Norman is steps from the top of the driveway, and Mortimer Spit is close by as well.

Wonderful cottage- wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay. The cottage was lovely and very comfortable and clean and met our whole family's needs. Everything worked well and the cottage was well equipped. The bay that the cottage is on is absolutely lovely and and we saw sea otters playing out front and seals swimming by... deer on the front lawn almost daily... The island and its many bay and beautiful coves were so much fun to explore. Would love to come back again. Thanks for sharing this delightful gem with us!

House has plenty of room for our family of seven plus outstanding waterfront access. We kayaked daily, went stand-up paddle boarding in the calm water off the dock, and hiked on the nearby trails. The house has a reverse osmosis system for drinking water and a well-appointed kitchen. When bulbs burnt out (something no one can predict), the caretaker brought and installed replacements within a few hours of our call...excellent care.

We have stayed at this beautiful home for several years now. Beautiful spacious home ideally situated on a scenic bay. Lots of room inside and out for everyone. We particularly enjoy the spacious well-equipped kitchen and dining area! Absolutely perfect.

South Pender Island beauty

  • 4 of 5

This Pender Island home has a stunning waterfront location in a sheltered cove. The information provided by the owner was helpful and the service was really great. He called to check that everything was okay and sent someone right away when we had trouble getting the drinking water to work. Eight of us stayed in the house and had plenty of space in this large, open-planned home. The outdoor space is very private and there is a large deck to hang out on in the afternoons with a view that is not to be beat. Would be great to have a few more chairs for people to use outside. A couple of must-see things to do are the farmer's market on Saturday morning and Sea Star Winery which has new owners and is well worth the visit and tastings.

We loved our few days away and would definitely visit again.

Thank you!

Island fun for all

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful house on an outstanding island. Our family includes members who love to relax and those who need to explore actively throughout the day. The house is has a friendly open layout that is very comfortable for group dining, lounging, and basecamp support.

We enjoyed kayaking from the dock into the protected cove waters. The sea life off the dock is stunning. The location is also paddleboard friendly. There are several hiking opportunities with a premier hike to the island peak (Mt. Norman) or along the undulating shoreline in the Beaumont Provincial Marine Park that can done from the front door. The island is hilly and really fun for cyclists wanting to cruise down for ice cream at Poet's Cove Resort or energetically chase one of the Strava segments. (Hill friendly gearing is recommended for all cyclists with many pitches exceeding 10%.) The disk golf course on North Pender is crazy fun with lots of hills, rock and trees to provide an entertaining challenge.

Car: necessary

The Pender Islands are part of the Southern Gulf Islands, located between Vancouver Island and the BC Mainland. Access to the island is by car ferry (BC Ferries) or private boat. Sea plane service is available from Vancouver. Pender has approximately 2500 year-round residents - just large enough to support the key amenities such as a gas station, pharmacy, grocery store, bank, liquor store, etc. but small enough to remain largely rural and quiet.

The island is a great relaxing, family vacation destination. There are hikes with great views, artist studios, a Frisbee golf course, restaurants and pubs, and unlimited fresh sea air.
