About Mrs Anne Forder

My name is Anne, I have successfully let our apartment for several years. We fell in love with Dartmouth way back in the 1980's! As a family with young children we enjoyed so many wonderful holidays together. Our children are now adults - but we still find that Dartmouth is a favoured destination. We love the little shops, pubs and restaurants. I keep myself busy being a wife, mother, grandmother, School Governor, I love to travel - but you will always find me back in Dartmouth for several weeks in the year. Why not try it yourself - you won't be disappointed.

Why Mrs Anne Forder chose Dartmouth

This was the first property we bought in Dartmouth and was our holiday home for many years and now newly decorated and refurbished, I have fallen in love with this lovely retreat all over again. Just perfect for a couple or a family with small children. I am sure you will find Little Bayards a lovely place to get away from it all.

Perfect location

  • 3 of 5

Very central and easy to access the town centre, ferries etc. Parking outside overnight was easy and the parking permit was very useful for leaving the car for the day.

Perfect for 2 on a short break

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is in a great location. The owner and her instructions were very helpful with regard to parking etc.

The kitchen is well equipped and a good size for eating in. The bathroom has been nicely refurbished and has a great shower. The lounge is very comfortable for sitting in.

Being an apartment in a very old building it is dark inside and even on a hot day was chilly, particularly in the bathroom.

It fronts right on to the street and has a big, old shop style front window. This can make you feel a bit on show to those walking past and it could be noisy for someone sleeping on the sofa bed.

However, overall it is a great value place to stay in Dartmouth and in a fantastic location.

Owner's Response: Hi Jane Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Really pleased you enjoyed your visit to Dartmouth and I'm sure its delights will draw you again. You are right of course about the lounge being a little dark, but back in 1640, it seems they didn't consider the impact of a low, heavily beamed ceiling! We popped in yesterday to investigate the reason the apartment seemed chilly, and discovered that the boiler setting was on minimum, rather than maximum which would have prevented the temperature rising even when individual radiator thermostats were turned to max! And I know what you mean about the window too, but as a Grade 2 listed building, after speaking with the 'Listed People' last year, we just have to embrace, its quirks for another 100 years!

The flat had was perfectly well equipped. The proximity to the town and the cove was perfect

Well, where do you start?

We've been to Dartmouth now 5 times and love it so much that we would like to move to the town. We've rented fabulous houses up on Above Town and had bigger and better accommodation than this time ( but not as well situated) What we have never had before in the 4 trips to Dartmouth ,or any other rentals across the UK over the years, is the two owners meet us on arrival and take us for drinks at The Dartmouth Arms. It was also unusual when the owner ( Glen ) offered to let us use his motorised dinghy the next day, and suggested we go out on his boat the day after that.

Sure enough, he texted and made arrangements with us to use his dinghy. He spent time setting the dinghy up, fuelling it, and then showing us how to operate the engine. My 12 year old boy and me spent half the day up and down the river, travelling to Dittisham and back.

That night, true to his word, he texted and asked if we wanted to join him on his boat ( a proper boat) for a trip to sea or up the river. We met him and 7 members of his family and spent the day travelling up and down the river in the lap of luxury. My lad even got to skipper the boat!

He, and his family, were so welcoming and friendly and we had a great day with them.

So, if you want to rent a great value flat in a great location, and want to deal with friendly, sociable, kind people, then give this place ( and the owners ) a try. I can't guarantee you'll get the full boat experience, but they are genuine people and the flat is good value

Thank you Glen. Unreal!

A very comfortable holiday

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely week in Little Bayards. The apartment was very clean and well equipped, with a lot of attention to detail. I agree with the previous comment about the tiny telly but not the most important thing in a holiday. The location of the apartment is superb, within a few minutes' walk of coastal paths, shops, cafes, buses and ferries, which is just as well because parking in Dartmouth can be quite challenging, so we used the car very little and explored the area on foot, or by bus or ferry - very liberating! I would definitely recommend this town and apartment to our friends.

Owner's Response: You will be pleased to know, there is a new larger telly in situ, so thank you for your comment, which was very helpful. Anne

Location

Special interest holidays:

The apartment is ideally situated for guests who wish to take of advantage of the many scenic walks in and around Dartmouth's coastline.

Coast/Beach:

The local beach is called Sugary Cove and is used by keen swimmers all year round. It is reached via a steep but pretty walk. Sugary Cove is about a miles walk from the apartment.

Travel:

Nearest airport is Exeter, and Bristol is also used for a wider selection of destinations and is appoximately 120 miles from Dartmouth, so car hire would be necessary.

Distances:

The apartment is in the heart of Dartmouth which is surrounded by the lovely villages. River trips can be taken to Dittisham and around the coast to Brixham and Torquay.

Further Details:

The local shops are just minutes away as the the many restaurants and tea shops and cafes. Within the town there is a Coop supermarket, Spar and Marks and Spencers Food shop. There are 3 banks with Cashpoint machines all of them within walking distance. There are several shops which bake their own bread and pastries. Market Days are on Tuesdays and Fridays and offer an interesting selection of ware.

Dartmouth has cinema and library and a swimming pool which is located at the top of College Hill where the are also a Lidl and Sainsbury's supermarkets.
