Hodgeston lies midway between historic Pembroke and lively Tenby. The cottage was built in 2005 - a conversion of the granary of Hodgeston Hall, the neighbouring Grade II listed building. Great care has been taken to empathise with its surroundings - the exterior being built of old, local limestone, whilst internally there is liberal use of exposed timber.There is plenty to do and see in this lovely part of Wales and clues to its Norman history and ancient past are all around, with the magnificent castles of Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew. Water sports, boat trips, fishing, golf or walking the coastal footpath are just a few of the holiday activities available. Freshwater and Manorbier beaches are a firm favourite with surfers and kayakers, whilst Bosherston lilly ponds provides gentle walking and excellent fishing. The award-winning Barafundle Bay is within 5 miles and if walking is your interest, the coastal footpath is at the top of the lane outside the cottage and you can hop on and off the Coastal Cruiser bus if you don't want to walk back!

Why Steve Butler chose Pembroke
We've holidayed in this part of Pembrokeshire as children, we have taken our children, visited with friends and escorted elderly relatives. We adore the coastal paths and the beaches. Even now we find new places to explore and still enjoy the old familiar places. There is something comforting about becoming a regular visitor. The road networks in this area are great, so getting here is no hardship.
What makes this Cottage unique
"Two Hoots" is easy to find, it is close to all amenities especially the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, just a short walk away. It is served by the Tourist Bus with stops close by. Freshwater East, a magnificent expanse of beach is a pleasant walk, with a pub on the way, or a short drive away. Pembroke itself is a great attraction and Pembroke Dock has many retail outlets including a huge Tesco store with a fuel station. The cottage is secure for the kids and dogs to play, it's on a quiet "access only" road with minimal traffic.. "Two Hoots" cottage is a renovated and converted outbuilding, formally part of Hodgeston Hall. It was completed around 2006 providing a modern self contained and well equipped holiday home.

Bright and spacious!
We had a very comfortable stay at Two Hoots. It's ideally situated close to Pembroke, Tenby and lots of really beautiful beaches. The children took the rooms upstairs and my husband and I had the downstairs ensuite. The sitting room has lots of space for a family of 5 to all sit and the kitchen is more than big enough with lots of storage. The garden and front drive are ideal for small children and dogs as it is totally contained by a wall and gate. We stayed in a chilly February half term but the cottage was lovely and warm. Wouldn't a little log burner be amazing though?!
The two bathrooms were modern, smart and new with lots of hot water. Great downstairs shower!!
Highlights for us were Pembroke castle, Bosherton ponds and walking onto all the lovely beaches. Great food at Stackpole Inn too.
We would definitely recommend and love to go back to Two Hoots.

You are right about a little fire. We have gone over this many times but draw a blank as there is no possibility of a fitting a chimney. We have a plan "B" but it would be an imitation I'm afraid. Fortunately the boiler can give out enough heat to keep the place very cosy as you say.
Glad you like the new plumbing, I'm very pleased with it but it is your response that makes it worthwhile.

Nice cottage. Well maintained. Great location. Close to some of Pembrokeshire's excellent beaches. Would definitely recommend.

most lettings these days have a welcome pack , here we were warned to bring our first brew.
strange smell what we think was doggy ish for first couple of days until we got something to neutralize it.
no chest of drawers in the main bedroom.
no dishwasher tablets.
no dish cloth.
bedroom tv was so small across the other side of the room.
I'm stunned by this review.
I ask guests to let us know during their stay if there are issues to be addressed. Sometimes things go wrong and we sort it immediately. Can't do anything if we only find out in a review.
If we have failed to please we take it very seriously and will take every action we can to prevent re-occurence.
Of course we will check with housekeeping, re the shower / smell and broken glasses.
The cupboards hold twice the amount of china and glass required for a full house. So no real issue unless the broken glass was on the floor?
The mattresses are renewed periodically and we don't skimp on quality. When we or family stay we use all of them to check quality.
We decided not to provide consumables as the range of likes and dislikes satisfies no-one, not to mention the rise in allergies. We don't WARN people to bring stuff to make the first cuppa. We suggest it in a helpful, pleasant way.
The bedroom TV screen is small. It fits on the dressing table. It is a compromise between a large one and no dressing table or no TV and a full dressing table. Sorry. We make no claim as to its size and we've never had a mention of it in all the years we've run the cottage.

Lovely property, well equipped
Clean and well equipped property. Nice beach nearby with a café/bar next to it (I recommend the bacon and mushroom rolls!). Freshwater Inn worth a visit just to sit out with a drink and take in the view. Peaceful location
Alan, I am a bit puzzled by a four star review when for the last 3 years we've had straight 5 stars and that's before we spent a few thousand pounds this year on bathrooms, patio doors and furniture.

Two Hoots Cottage was perfect for our needs. Set in a lovely quiet village, in a lovely quiet position, yet not far from other local village shops and Pembroke Town (short drive). Beautiful beaches within walking distance if you like some exercise or otherwise a short drive.. Great for dog walking. The cottage itself felt like a good size for our family (2 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs). We had plenty of space and the cottage was practical and well equipped. Liked the enclosed space in the garden for the dogs. The owners of the cottage were very helpful with information before our stay and lots of information in the cottage of what to do and places to go in the area. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in the area many times over the years on holiday and never quite got what we wanted. I wish we had found Two Hoots then. It ticks all the right boxes for our family and has done the same for hundreds more since it was developed into a holiday home. One lady is returning in 2019 for her 15th time.

An Absolute Gem
This is our forth stay at Two Hoots and as usual it did not disappoint.
The excellent location allowed us to re-visit several lovely nearby beaches (Freshwater East), perfect for walking dogs and toddlers! To more robust walks through the stunning Bosherston Lily ponds (national trust) and onto new finds Broad Haven South beach, with its absolutely gorgeous little streams, bridges and caves galore! We also discovered a new beach at Manorbier with its own castle. Carew castle also worth a visit.
Numerous beaches, castles, folly farm and of course Tenby is all within 20 minutes of Two Hoots! It made it so easy with a family, dogs and other friends who joined us.
On arrival at Two Hoots we also discovered they’d put a brand new bathroom suite in upstairs with a wonderful corner bath and seat which my Son really enjoyed sitting in. I really enjoyed the new waterfall shower! The downstairs ensuite also benefits from another new brilliant waterfall shower and suite.
The house is always warm and cosy with plenty of linens on comfy beds, a well arranged kitchen diner with all the facilities (washer & tumbler dryer were very usuful and straight forward ).
The neighbors are lovely and always say hello, the drive way is spacious and secure and the garden is excellent for keeping in wandering toddlers/dogs!
We had such a wonderful holiday and will continue to come back to Two Hoots ... already booking our next slot!

The nearest beach is at Freshwater East, which has a good pub. It is reached by a comfortable (Restricted Access) road walk for about 20 minutes (approx 1 mile) crossing the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path before dipping down to the extensive sands. Freshwater East Bay is served by the Coastal Tripper Bus. There are numerous other sandy beaches and coves to explore if you wish to walk further or drive, including Manorbier with its Medieval Castle and Stackpole Quay which also has a Cafe.
Nearest Airport is Cardiff and Ferries operate from Pembroke Dock.
A Car is essential for the exploration of Pembrokeshire. Sat Nav using the postcode will take you to the village. The cottage is situated further up the lane running on the right side of the church and just around the right hand turn next to Hodgeston Hall.
The nearest Railway Station is at Lamphey
Hodgeston is approx 1 mile from the villages of Freshwater East, Jameston & Lamphey, 3 from Pembroke and 7 from Tenby.
There are 6 pubs within a mile who all welcome children & offer good, value for money meals. There are 2 quality restaurants in Lamphey & 1 in Jameston. The nearest supermarkets are located in Pembroke (Co-op), Pembroke Dock (Asda, Tesco, Lidl Aldi). Tesco delivers to the village. Banks are in Pembroke & Tenby. Tenby is the largest town with numerous tourist attractions & lovely beaches. There are theme parks at St. Florence - Heatherton, Dinosaur Park & Manor Park. The biggest is Oakwood - about 8 miles - where you'll find a great leisure centre. Swimming pools are also in Pembroke & Tenby. Boating trips out to the offshore islands can be made from Tenby or Saundersfoot (a visit to Caldey Island to see the monastery is a must!). If history is your thing, three of the best Norman castles in Wales are within 5 miles at Pembroke, Manorbier and Carew. There is an unusual Norman church on your doorstep and a medieval palace at Lamphey.
Booking Notes: To book your Pembrokeshire Holiday at "Two Hoots" Hodgeston simply go to our Website where you will find further information and our T & Cs. Contact us by phone or email or letter if you prefer. We hold enquiries for a few days but require a 25% deposit to reserve the booking. We then invoice you for the balance which must be paid within 8 weeks of your holiday. Our preferred payment method is by Bank Transfer, details of which can be found on the "Two Hoots" website. Changeover Day: Arrival day is Saturday normally with a Saturday departure, but with short breaks we try to be quite flexible. Guest Arrival is at 16.30 hrs and Departure no later than 10.00 hrs. We appreciate your help with these times as the Housekeeper is under some time constraints Notes on prices: If you want a break 4 days (or more) & there is a vacancy just ask us for a price if it is not listed as prices vary throughout the year. We offer a 15% discount to couples using just one bedroom but this is outside the peak periods of school / bank holidays and only applies to weekly bookings.
