About Lynn Chamberlain

An artist and scientist by profession with 30 years experience as furniture makers and antique restorers. As serial renovators this french based couple wanted a cosy Cornish bolthole to remind them of whats best of England.

Lynn Chamberlain purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Lynn Chamberlain chose South West Cornwall

Perfect location near the harbourside rail and bus stations makes it perect for exporing Cornwall by its surprisingly wonderful and inexpensive public transport system. Its faster and cheaper than by car usually and much less stressful than local roads. We wanted somthing with comfortable and with character but small enough to be warm and cosy.

What makes this cottage unique

The location. Its 2 mins from the sea, the stations yet very quiet. Coming from rural France we love being able to walk out of the front door and into the independant shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants and cinema minutes away. We love the fact that Penzance is a real town, not just a tourist spot but just as charming as any but with better amenities.

Wonderfully located within walking distance of the shops restaurants harbour and promenade in Penzance. Beautifully decorated with a retro theme and a touch of French class. The cottage is very cosy for nights in after exploring West Penwith.

Had a great week in Penzance. The cottage is very close to the railway and bus stations for getting around the area. Also very close to all the local ameneties, shops, pubs and restaurants. Had some great local food and drink during the week with lost of excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants. The cottage was a great base to explore the area. Love the decor and furniture and would definitely recommend.

Gorgeous cottage and perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

I have just returned from a week in Whirlygig Cottage with my 14 year-old daughter and 12 year-old son and we had a wonderful stay! We came down to Penzance by train which was so easy as the cottage is literally a two minute walk from the train station. During the week we managed to walk to St Michaels Mount, take an open-top bus to Land's end and the Minack Theatre, enjoy a train ride to St Ives and a ferry to the Scilly Isles. I was so glad I'd left the car at home!! The accommodation is lovely and cosy and I was particularly impressed with the bathroom. Only drawback for me was that I had to re-learn the art of washing up as I've become far too dependent on a dishwasher it seems! Thoroughly recommend.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased to hear that you had a good holiday car free. When we visit from France we often leave the car behind as we find it so easy get around too and located close to the station was one of the reasons we bought the cottage. Thanks again. Sweet little cottage

  • 4 of 5

Cottage is small but clean, well-maintained and fully equiped with all mod cons. The love and care that went into renovating this cottage shows in all aspects. Fully recommendable.

Communication with the owners went smooth.

Parking is free in adjecent streets though it can be a hassle to find a free spot. The overall neighbourhood is safe but does look tired.

All in all, excellent value for money.

Beautifully presented cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was decorated and furnished to a high standard. It was very comfortable and clean, and had all the facilities needed for our stay. It was in a quiet location, but within a very short distance of the town, railway and bus station, as well as the harbour and promenade.

The effort made from the owners and the housekeeper ensured our stay was a very positive one. We would certainly stay here again, and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Penzance with its mix of Georgian and Regency houses and cosy fishermans cottages is the perfect base from which to explore West Cornwall. The bay and St Michaels Mount make the sea look mediterranean , a feeling enhanced by the tropical planting. This just renovated 19thC fishermans cottage is les than half a kilometre from the rail and coach station making it ideal for those wanting to leave the car at home. It is actually far easier, quicker and cheaper to hop on the train or bus to St Ives, Falmouth, Truru etc than it is to drive and park. The independant cinema, Acorn theatre and hundreds of interesting independant shops are a stones throw away.
