About Liz and James Hitchcock
Hebe Cottage is owned by Liz and James. We fell in love with Wells and North Norfolk and followed our dream of owning a cottage there. We bought Hebe Cottage in November 2014 and have enjoyed furnishing it as well as staying there as we prepare to welcome guests. We have two young children, hence our experience of Norfolk is from a family perspective, however we are looking forward to learning more as the family grow up. We hope you enjoy Hebe Cottage as much as we do!

Why Liz and James Hitchcock chose Wells-next-the-Sea
We chose Hebe Cottage because of its proximity to the stunning beach at Wells. As a family we have spent a lot of time cycling to enjoy the countryside and visit some of the local attractions. There are a huge number of events taking place throughout the year so it is also worth while checking out what's on before booking. We are constantly surprised by the quality and number of places to visit; it really is a very special place.
What makes this Cottage unique
We love the fact that we can walk to shops, high quality restaurants and even the beach. The cottage is light and airy with a beautiful outside space meaning that we can enjoy evenings bbq-ing in the sun. It's rare in Wells to find such a secluded space at the heart of the town.

Perfect Wells getaway
Gorgeous cozy cottage in a superb location. Pretty much everything you'll need is provided and of good quality - I'd take along a non stick pan for fried breakfast next time but with so many fabulous places to eat you might not want to bother cooking! One thing to perhaps add into the property details is that people over 5'7'' may find it easier to have a bath as the shower space is a bit tight. This is such a minor thing in what is a truly lovely cottage.
Great location but small
Loved this cottage, but it simply isn’t big enough for four people. Fortunately there was only two of us. Really liked the location, very easy to get to the sea front and shops. But there is hardly anywhere to put clothes, no hanging space at all except one small free standing unit in one room. The small bedroom had to have beds pushed together to close the door! The mirror was between the beds. There was a large wardrobe in the main room but full of bedding for when the cleaners changed the beds. Very few sockets to plug anything in. They did supply one extension lead in the main bedroom. The other problem is the cooker on one side of the kitchen and the sink and kitchen units on the other with a large table and chairs in between - so if you had to empty anything hot from the cooker to the sink quite dangerous. We ate out except for breakfast.
The cottage was lovely right in the centre of Wells. Perfect!
It was ideal for our requirements with very good communication and information. Would definitely use HomeAway again.
Excellent base for holiday
Great property for two of us though the tightly wound steep stairs were a challenge - we unpacked the case downstairs and carried things up! Had to watch my head in the bathroom even though I’m only 5’8” but all in all a great property in a good location. No problem finding parking this time of year.
Perfect Family holiday
Lovely cottage, in a perfect location. Right near all shops and amenities. Really comfortable beds too!
Fantastic cottage - location perfect and everything in the cottage was great - home from home !
The Quay is only 420m away, reached along Staithe Street where cafes, shops and restaurants can be found.
The stunning beach fringed with pines and colourful beach huts is located a mile away from the Quay, accessible by car (5mins), on the minature railway or by foot along the sea wall (20mins). The beach is several miles long and a fantastic place to walk, swim and enjoy beach games. The 'big skies' of Norfolk are certainly found here!
A car is useful to access many of the local attractions however the Coastal Hopper Bus stops within 50m of the cottage and can be used to visit locations and attractions along the coast.
Holkham Hall - beautiful beach, estate, deer park, walled garden and stately home 1.5 miles
Morston Quay, Blakeney - seal watching trips 6 miles
Sandringham - HM the Queen's Norfolk retreat 20 miles
Walsingham - place of pilgrimage 5 miles
Wells to Walsingham miniature railway - 0.5 miles
Cley-next-the-Sea - beautiful windmill, birdwatching 10 miles
Wells has an award winning local butcher, fish shop and bakery all located within a 5 minute walk of the cottage. There are also two small supermarkets, a chemist and many independent shops offering clothing and coastal souvenirs.
You are spoilt for choice when deciding where to eat out. Behind Hebe Cottage you'll find the Buttlands, a green space surrounded by mature trees and many historic buildings including the Crown Hotel and the Globe Inn which are well regarded eateries. Further restaurants and coffee shops are found in Staithe Street and around the Quay including two fish and chip shops.
There is one bank with a cashpoint machine.
