Our lovingly restored cottage is full of charm and magic, decorated and designed completely by ourselves. We hope you will feel at home here. Private parking is in the courtyard which is shared by our two other gites. A private garden enclosed by fencing gives easy access to the 1 acre grounds. The heated family swimming pool and the larger play lawns and garden areas with swings, trampoline and play equipment are available to all of our guests, and even a little stream where kids can potter. We have one double bedroom and one twin room with a house bathroom. The downstairs living space is open plan with a woodburning stove, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and coffee maker. Our renovation was completed in Spring 2015, so all appliances and fittings are new, we have French and English TV, Wifi, board games, kids' toys, books, and DVDs. Linen, towels, beach towels, baby equipment, pantry items and welcome gifts are included with our complements.

2hrs from Roscoff, 3hrs from St Malo and 45mins from Brest airport, our gites are located in an idyllic part of Finistere.
The varied coastline of sandy beaches, rockpools, craggy cliffs and secluded coves is just a 10 min drive away. Still unspoilt, and far less built up than many other parts of Brittany, our beautiful, family friendly, yet relatively undiscovered beaches, are a rare find. We feel privileged to be able to offer holiday accommodation in this wonderful and special area.
Our beautifully renovated farmhouse, and 2 adjoining cottages, plus private family heated swimming pool (open from start of May till mid October), enjoy a secluded 1 acre garden, edged by a stream and woodland.
The heated swimming pool is inside the walls of the beautiful roofless coach-house, across the courtyard from the gites. Our pool is 8 x 4 m with no shallow end, which gives plenty of room to either swim laps or play games. We heat it to 38 degrees during summer, regardless of the weather. This keeps it warm enough for the smallest of toddlers to use, even when our Brittany weather is not at its best! The poolside is decked, with sunloungers, and the pool adheres to current safety regulations. Outside the coach-house is a table tennis and swing ball area. The pool can be used at any time of day, and we have found it the perfect place for the kids to get to know one another while parents enjoy some downtime. Towels are provided.
In the garden the swings, trampoline, badminton, swingball, football nets, soft archery, table tennis and other play equipment will keep your kids busy, plus some small kids' bikes. Les Hiboux and Le Petit Renard each has its own private garden and eating/barbecue area secured by an attractive low fence, low stone wall and flowerbeds, overlooking the grassy play lawn so you can enjoy a glass of wine in comfort while supervising the kids. The Farmhouse has a large private, fenced garden area separated from the main garden, making it safe for small kids and pets and giving extra privacy, whilst at the same time the play lawn is visible from the garden.
The buildings have been very recently renovated by ourselves, maintaining as many original features as possible, such as the beautiful beams, and exposed stonework. We have designed, built and decorated all of the buildings ourselves, scouring antique markets for the perfect pieces to bring back and restore, and reclaiming and incorporating as much of the original fabric and character of the buildings as we can. Our guests love the attention to detail and the friendly, homely feel of our cottages, which they tell us is second to none. We completed The Farmhouse and Les Hiboux in 2015, and Le Petit Renard in 2018.
Downstairs an open plan living space with oak beam ceiling includes
Comfy sofas and armchair seating six in front of the original Breton fireplace installed with a beautiful wood burner. We have English and French TV channels, a DVD player and plenty of books, DVDs and games to keep you occupied. A glass door leads to the vast private garden where you can relax on outdoor sofas, recliners and a table and chairs, enjoy a barbecue (charcoal provided, of course). We have chosen beautiful wallpaper and render and hung the walls with original works of art to give you a true feeling of indulgence.
Our spacious open plan kitchen diner includes a butler sink, ceramic induction hob, electric oven and dishwasher. A beautiful woodburning rayburn sets the scene, with hand painted antique dresser, sideboard and farmhouse table all restored by ourselves. Two easy chairs are perfect seating for a board game or a chat with the cook.
Through a side door, our large utility room provides storage for food, coats, a Bosch washing machine and chest freezer. A back door leads onto the private garden.
Central to the downstairs area is a restored Breton staircase leading up to the bedrooms.
Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a twin as well as a bathroom with a large bath and glass shower door.
All of these rooms have original beams, many pieces of restored antique furniture and have been designed and decorated with a great deal of love and attention.
Once the wooden stalls were removed, the old piggery provided a great space for the second cottage.
Downstairs we were sure to put in a spacious modern kitchen in the country style, retaining oak beams in the ceiling, exposed stone walls and even using old oak boards for shelving and including a washing machine and dishwasher. Beyond the kitchen, comfy sofas give seating for five, there is a wood burning stove, central heating, a dining area and plenty of books, games and DVDs. Glass patio doors lead onto the private garden area where seating, loungers, barbecue and stunning views of the main garden await you.
Also downstairs, a bathroom with a very spacious shower!
Upstairs a double bedroom and twin room include hand painted furniture, a wardrobe, dressing table, plenty of drawer space and huge under eave storage cupboards.
Le Petit Renard:
We were very excited about turning the farm's bread oven into a three bedroom gite because the stone breton oven has been perfectly preserved and makes a wonderful feature in the kitchen along with the old oak beams which we highlighted with a spacious vaulted ceiling. We also turned the arched doorway into a bespoke window seat using beautiful carved planks from the original building. The kitchen comes equipped with a butler sink, induction hob, dishwasher and oak shelving. Table and chairs, and comfy leather sofas seat 5. We supply wood for the woodburning stove and electric heating in winter. Large glass doors lead onto the patio.
Bedrooms are lavishly decorated. The master has a kingsized bed, wardrobe, dressing table and armchair. The twin has an extra wardrobe and there is a spacious single. There is a large bath with shower attachment and a Bosch washing machine in a discreet cupboard.
If you have children, we provide personalised toyboxes for them, plus each cottage has board games, books, DVDs, TV in English and French and an excellent Wifi connection.
Our kitchens come fully equipped with oven, dishwasher, washing machines, microwaves, toasters, coffeemakers etc. We leave some basic kitchen supplies such as washing powder, washing liquid, sponges, cling film, tea/coffee, salt/pepper, oil and, during high season, a welcome pack including fresh milk, bread, croissants and other goodies so that you can relax with a cuppa before unpacking, or have a breakfast of croissants and cereals next day without having to worry about shopping enroute. If you arrive late, just let us know what you need and we can pop to the supermarket for you!
We love having kids to stay and have tried to make packing as easy for you as possible, providing baby baths, changing mats, travel cots with comfy mattresses and blankets, plates/cups etc, booster seats and highchairs. Let us know if there is anything particular you need and we will do our best to accommodate you.
We have travel cots on hand with cosy mattresses and blankets, and use high quality mattress protectors for your peace of mind.
We also provide plenty of towels and high quality bed linen at no extra cost and, of course, bathroom supplies such as loo rolls and hand soap.
We live all year on site so we can answer any queries and provide advice and recommendations about the area. If you like, we can make your vet, or, if necessary, doctor appointments, and can even book a restaurant table for you if you are not confident in using the french language.
Our complex is part of a tiny hamlet called Leskobet, proud guardians of the St Corentin Chapel, which is a local pilgrimage site and connects to a network of walking routes leading to majestic views at the Menez Hom, highest point in Finistere. The mythical stream of St Corentin runs through our garden and feeds eventually into the Odet River at Quimper.
Our local village, Plomodiern, has splendid sea views, a supermarket, tourist office, several restaurants and bakeries, a takeaway pizzeria/creperie and a bustling market each Friday. It is also host to the annual Fete De Menez Hom in August, when locals dressed in Breton costumes parade through the streets together with Breton dancers from all of the regions of Brittany. During summer a Fest Noz is held every Monday night, when all are welcome to join with the locals, trying out these special Breton dances (or just watching of course!).
A ten minute drive away, are a number of sandy beaches, for swimming, surfing, or sand buggying. All are unspoilt, backed by dunes and cliff paths. We will provide you with beach towels and parasols for your daytrips.
Equally accessible is the stunning historic town of Locronan, often used in filmsets, and the canal town of Chateaulin, with cycle tracks along the banks of the beautiful Brest-Nantes canal. Within half an hour, you can visit the facilities of the historic town of Quimper, the fishing port of Duarnenez, or the unspoilt Crozon peninsular with its pleasure beaches and cafes. Further afield it is easy to reach the more touristic beaches of Southern or Northern Finistere, simply take your pick. Or explore the countryside inland. Feel free to ask us for recommendations regarding the many museums, beaches, national parks or attractions nearby.
For the sporty, there is swimming, surfing, and paddle boarding at the nearby beaches, also kite buggys, diving and kayaking are available at Pentrez or Crozon. Cyclists can enjoy the canal paths at the Brest/Nantes canal or the Foret du Nevet at Locronan, and there are tennis courts in the village, a swimming pool at Chateaulin, a kayaking school on the canal, hiking paths, climbing crags and paragliding.
Pet owners can enjoy the many secluded beaches and walks on cliff paths and countryside. The Bretons are particularly dog friendly and welcome dogs into most of their cafes and restaurants if asked.

About Stewart & Tricia Morpurgo
Originally from Jersey, we have lived in Plomodiern with our two little girls for three years. We fell in love with the beautiful, uncrowded beaches and unspoilt coastline which we found in the area, and decided to live here permanently. We have made friends and enjoy a peaceful way of life, making the most of the wonderful beaches when work permits. We truly feel we have found a little slice of heaven!
Stewart & Tricia Morpurgo purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Stewart & Tricia Morpurgo chose Plomodiern
We love Plomodiern because of its accessability to a whole number of stunning beaches, the nearest of which is just a ten minute drive away on roads that are guaranteed traffic jam free! There is a different beach for every mood: surfing, swimming, rockpooling, kayaking, or you can seek out the little coves accessed only by narrow cliffpaths if you prefer. We are also within easy reach of the busier beaches on the south coast, such as Pont Aven and Concarneau, for a daytrip, though we always breath a sigh when we get back home to our little idyl! In summer, our village hosts traditional weekly Breton dances and a vibrant market day, plus the wonderful fete de Menez Hom in August, when visitors from the whole of Brittany wear their local costumes and dance through the streets.
What makes this Cottage unique
With so many unspoilt beaches on our doorstep, find a beach for every mood: swimming, surfing, rockpooling, or discovering little coves. Our gite will suit all who enjoy exploring those havens off the beaten track. For a daytrip, choose the more touristic beaches at Pont Aven, Concarneau, or Audiern, all just over an hour away. We will provide beach towels and parasols to make packing easier. Alternatively, relax at the poolside or enjoy our tranquil gardens, which are edged by a pretty stream where kids can potter, and bordered by trees and a small woodland area. We provide sunloungers and barbecues for al fresco eating in luxury. Plenty of outdoor equipment is available plus swings and a trampoline and soft archery, and for the little ones, bikes for supervised cycling, toys and cot/highchair/buggy/carseat. We have built a heated swimming pool within the walls of one of our beautiful ruined, roofless buildings. A terrace is available at the poolside for sunbathing, screened from other buildings by hedging and shrubbery.

Very sweet little cottage, very welcoming hosts
We had a really lovely stay here. It was a very sweet little well equipped cottage in an ideal location for exploring this part of Brittany. Stewart and Tricia were very welcoming and helpful. We would definately recommend this cottage to others.
A lovely cottage in a wonderful, unspoilt part of France
The cottage is spacious and decorated to a high standard. The small, thoughtful touches really made our stay--age appropriate toys and books for the children, various baby bits and bobs, kitchen essentials, a lovely welcome pack. Unlike so many self catering accommodations, there was no need to buy washing up liquid, toilet roll etc; a refreshing change!
The area itself is beautiful, rural and unspoilt. There are lovely, clean and empty (early September) beaches a short drive away and plenty of towns to explore.
The spacious garden with its archery set, trampoline and swings was a hit with toddler and parents alike and the clean swimming pool was a real bonus. We would not hesitate to return.
Beautiful cottage, home from home, in a great location
We have just had a brilliant week at Stewart and Tricia's beautiful cottage. They have renovated them so beautifully. The facilities were brilliant, they have thought of all those little things that when you are self catering are a faff to bring or buy. Our kids (girl age 6 & boy age 4) loved it. They had a box of great toys to use inside, a great selection of books and DVDs and outside were some great toys to play in a huge garden. The pool area is fab, again the kids loved that so it became quite hard getting them to leave to explore the beautiful beaches nearby! There is a big supermarket in the main village that is a 5 minute drive. The area is a lovely part of Brittany, local beaches were great plus we explored Crozon, Morgat and Camaret-sur-Mer which were all well worth the trip out.
Great place to stay
We really enjoyed our time here. A lovely gite, great area to explore. Kids enjoyed the pool. We hope to go back!
Fantastic property, beautiful location
We have just returned from a brilliant 2 week stay in Les Hiboux. 2 adults and 2 children (ages 3&7) loved every minute of our stay.
The gite was the perfect size for our family and has a very generous, well equipped kitchen. The washing machine was very well utilised and the brilliant weather made easy work of getting it dry.
The kids loved the huge gardens which include football nets and a trampoline, and enjoyed playing table tennis after every dip in the pool.
Just a short drive to the beach and a bakery, and an even shorter drive to a big supermarket with a petrol station. You could walk to the supermarket and into plomodiern if you really wanted.
We didn’t explore the area as much as we would have liked to as we loved visiting the beaches and the pool!
Definitely would return in the future.
Thanks for a fabulous stay
Comfortable stay in an ex pigsty!
You would never know that Les Hiboux used to be a pigsty. Tricia and Stewart have done a lot of work to renovate this little building and made it into a very comfortable and well equipped holiday home. We were a family group of four adults and we stayed for a week at the beginning of July. As the weather was in the eighties full use was made of the swimming pool and also the self-contained garden at the rear of the property where we often had breakfast. The property is only a five minute drive to the local village for the supermarket, bakery for fresh bread and a very good restaurant. There are lots of picturesque local villages to visit and also big, empty beaches a short drive away. Tricia and Stewart are helpful and friendly and on hand should you need them and also very knowledgeable on local restaurants places to visit and the names of the various plants that Tricia has planted in the lovely flowerbeds around the buildings
This area in Brittany is beautiful we should have stayed for at least 2 weeks if not longer to explore the area around the farmhouse and will certainly return to Brittany and of course to Stewart and Tricia's Les Hiboux
10 min drive to safe, family swimming beaches of Lestrovet, Pors-ar-vag (surfing) and St Ann-de-palud. Try surfing or kite buggies! Or simply catch some rays.
