You will drive up to my home, get out of your car, and breathe in the fresh clean pine air of Pure Michigan. Upon entering the great room you will love the wide plank pine floors, vaulted ceiling, and wood burning fireplace. Up the stairs you will find a bedroom with a queen size bed, private deck and full bathroom with a rain shower. Directly below is another bedroom with two full size beds, a bathroom with a large rain shower. The great room flows into a kitchen with a sub zero refrigerator, wine refrigerator, bosch dishwasher , kohler sink and faucet ,gas range and microwave. From the kitchen walk into a very large dinning room with a stone floor, gas fireplace, dinning table, couch, bay window/window seat which overlooks the back yard. This is a great space to entertain your friends and family! Move into the screened in porch through the French doors in the kitchen. You will want to relax here with your cup of coffee in the morning and your glass of wine in the evening. From the porch, walk out to the deck and enjoy the sunken hot tub lit with tiki torches. As you exit the deck cross over the stone patio and up the stairs to the coach house over the two car garage. This space is roomy with one queen bed, one full bed, a kitchenette, bistro table, reading chair, and bathroom. There is nice deck off this room at the top of the stairs. You will feel like you are in a tree house! Climb back down to the patio and enjoy the hammock or build a fire in the fire pit. As you walk down the stone path behind the house you will pass through an arbor and enter my secret garden with a landscaped water fall , pond, and seating area. If you are lucky you will see birds, squirrels, deer, and wild turkeys! Both the house and coach house have air/con and cable. Check out my photos!

About Susan Kostiwa
I grew up in a Chicago suburb and currently live and work in Chicago. I come from a long line of gardeners, animal and nature lovers. I have traveled quite a bit and still think that Lake Michigan and the Warren Dunes cant be beat as a beach destination. The stress of the work week just melts away as soon as you cross the border into "Pure Michigan". You'll see .
Susan Kostiwa purchased this Cottage in 1999
Why Susan Kostiwa chose Sawyer
I have been vacationing in Harbor Country for many years and was searching for a cottage to buy when I came upon this beautiful lot in Sawyer and decided to build my own home. It has been a labor of love to design every detail and incorporate my taste in décor from travels in Italy , France, and Bali. I have also acquired pieces from local artisans and artists to enhance the space. Ask me for my favorite places to find beautiful things!

Excellent Home Stay
The cottage, grounds, amenities and location are great. I highly recommend this cottage.
Cottage? It’s a PALACE in the woods!
Just bring your clothes and food! This home has EVERYTHING!!!! Our stay in this stunning home in the woods was spectacular! The amenities are all there for you! Our favorite place? Sitting on the incredible screen porch, sipping wine and noshing on snacks! The home and cottage had beautiful and comfortable furniture and beds. Plenty of towels to go around, and there was a washer and dryer, in case you needed it! We loved seeing some surprise guests in the front yard—a handful of deer grazing near the front door! It’s close to Warren Dunes. We spent time on Silver Beach in St. Joseph, another day was spent doing all of the activities in St. Joseph—the carousel, children’s museums, splash pad and boardwalk. In town and close by, visit the Sawyer Market—do your grocery shopping there. So much to do or just stay in the home and so nothing! Thank you, Susan! We hope you were pleased with us as renters! We hope to rent with you again and SOON!
Sophie, thank you so much for your review. You were WONDERFUL guests . You are welcomed back any time. Sue
Absolutely beautiful home inside and out and a truly gracious owner.
This lovely home sits in a quiet wooded area, backing up to Warren Dunes State park. It is very well maintained inside and out with all the amenities anyone would need to enjoy their stay. The hot tub is impeccably maintained and was the venue for many a late night gathering. From the beautifully decorated screened porch, we enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles or reading books while enjoying beautiful songbirds as they came and went from the numerous birdhouses. We were visited by deer, turkeys, hummingbirds and a wide variety of songbirds during our stay. I highly recommend this beautiful retreat for couples, families and anyone else seeking some R&R.
Dave, thank you for the wonderful review. Creekside Cottage has been a sanctuary for me and I am glad that it is for others as well. Sue
Perfect! Beautiful House with Guest House, great Location!
We loved this house! Just stayed for a week with three kids and 2 grandparents. It was perfect since the grandparents could use the guest house and have a little more privacy. The house is beautifully decorated, well stocked with everything you need. The beds are comfy and the showers are good! LOVED having a hot tub for an easy activity for the kids and the location, right in the woods, was so beautiful...picture perfect! 5 minutes from great beaches, this was our second vacation to Sawyer because we love the conveniences of the little town and Cherry Beach is our favorite. Would definitely stay here again next year!
Great house and the grounds are BEAUTIFUL.
Great house and the grounds are lovely. Well-stocked kitchen, awesome screened porch that we spent all our time on, and super comfy bedding. Only complaints: 1) very tricky to know how to get to and navigate path to beach (getting to state beach easy though); and 2) the coach house above the garage - although nice and roomy, and convenient - is very smelly (probably musty smelling - but it wouldn't air out).
Fantastic house with all amenities
The house is beautiful and very comfortable. We settled in very quickly and loved having the option of the carriage house above the garage for my nephews to enjoy their own space. We cooked almost every day and enjoyed the use of everything in the kitchen. There were plenty of towels, soap, paper products, etc. The hot tub was used every day too and was very clean! The gardens at the back of the house with the waterfall were enjoyed in the early mornings with coffee. And we used the firepit one night to roast marshmallows for s'mores. I think we used the screened in porch more than any other space. We walked to the Warren Dunes beach using several different paths and also drove there on days we wanted to bring more beach toys. We loved Weko Beach just 5 minutes north in Bridgman, with the wooden stair paths and the vendor selling South American fare - empanadas and arepas -- all corn based and gluten free! It's a beautiful area. I wish there were more smaller beaches to access. We found that most of the beach areas down the side roads were private. We went blueberry picking - yum! And of course stopped in for pastries at Louisa's café and bakery in Harbart. The restaurant I enjoyed the most was the Kurdish restaurant Café Gulistan. We ended up there because the Greenbush Brewery was an hour wait. The food melted in your mouth and was full of exceptional combinations of flavors. It was awesome and I will go back there again. Thank you Susan for the use of your beautiful home!!!
Thanks so much for the great review and for giving my future guests good ideas for their vacation time at Creekside Cottage!
Harbor Country is a wonderful getaway in Southwest Michigan just 70-80 miles from downtown Chicago. As you cross the border into "Pure MIchigan" investigate the charming towns along the Red Arrow Highway from New Buffalo to Sawyer. Enjoy beautiful lake Michigan from the shores of Warren Dunes State Park. Rent kayaks or paddle boards. You can even bring your dog to the beach! Climb the huge sand dunes and hike through acres of wood. Tour the local wineries. Visit the local breweries and restaurants. Cycle through the countryside. Spend the day along Red Arrow Highway shopping at antique stores, art galleries and gift shops. Relax with your friends and family as the stress just melts away.
