3 bedroom character cottage in unspoilt village, garden, opposite country pub
About Teresa Tearle
My love affair with the Isle of Wight began in 2001 following in the footsteps of my boyfriend who spent happy times on the island learning to paraglide and looking for fossils. His love of the island was infectious and more visits followed together. We bought our first cottage (2 The Granary, Brighstone) in 2004 and our holiday letting adventure began! We bought our second cottage (Brookside Cottage) in 2008 and thoroughly enjoy being able to share our cottages and the island with our holiday guests. We love the Isle of Wight so much we moved here in 2017 and now run West Wight Cottages from our Island base.

Outstanding stay at Brookside. HIGHLY recommended.
FAR exceeded expectation. Fantastic home-from-home. Comprehensively equipped right down to soap pwder, conditioner, fuses, pegs, etc. To cap it all Teresa, the property manager (owner too?) was exceptional. For family reasons our one week holiday turned into a two then three week stay and she managed ALL the changes to the accomodation AND ferry bookings smoothly and without fuss. Would recommend without hesitation and hope to return under happier circumstances. Thank you!
We love our cottages to feel like home from home. The comfort and well being of our guests is important and we will always do our best to help out.
Brookside cottage - The Fox-Longdon holiday
Really lovely cottage. Well equipped for families. Very good communication with the owners. Would like to stay again.
Brookside Cottage has many repeat guests and always a pleasure to welcome people back!
Can't fault it a 1.
Our enjoyable stay in Shorwell.
We want to thank Teresa for all her care and attention to detail regarding our booking. Her cottage is wonderful, well equipped, perfect for six people and the two young children loved their stay. We did have to put the two refuse bins strategically around one car to prevent the children wandering unbeknown to us, as the gate couldn't be closed but apart from that small detail, all went perfectly. Thank you! Best wishes. Sue Price
Brookside Cottage (Shorwell, Isle of Wight) is very popular with families and we pride ourselves on taking good care of our guests. We've recently been made aware of the gate issue and we've now cleared all the plants away from it so it can close again.
This cottage is the best we have ever rented. Superbly equipped and very comfortable. Thanks to Teresa & Steve for promptly dealing with everything.
We love looking after our guests and ensuring their stay is a relaxing and enjoyable one - and even more delighted when our guests choose to return year after year.
We spent two weeks in this very comfortable cottage. The place was spotlessly clean and everything had been provided to make our stay a very relaxing one. The beds were very comfortable. The pub over the road was a lovely asset. It was easy to travel in all directions from the cottage as a base. Sitting in the garden watching the birds and hearing the brook was delightful. The owner was very helpful booking our ferries as well. All in all a lovely place to stay.
Thanks for your lovely review! We do our very best to make Brookside Cottage a wonderful place to stay.
2 miles to nearest beach at Grange Farm and 5 miles to Compton – long stretches of contrasting golden and dark sands, backed by multi-coloured sandstone cliffs, with the white chalk cliffs at Freshwater in the distance. Compton is the best place on the island to go fossiling, including for dinosaur bones.
Travel by car or train to the ferry ports of Lymington (to Yarmouth), Portsmouth (to Fishbourne, Ryde or Cowes) and Southampton (to Cowes). There are bus services to Shorwell from Yarmouth (via Freshwater) and Ryde / Cowes (via Newport). The bus stop is directly outside / opposite the cottage.
Carisbrooke Castle, Newport, Yarmouth, Freshwater, Dimbola Lodge / Freshwater Bay, Compton Bay, Colwell Bay and Totland Bay all within 10 miles.
Further afield are the IOW Steam Railway at Havenstreet, Brading Roman Villa, theme parks for the children at Robin Hill, Blackgang and the Needles at Alum Bay.
National Trust: Needles Old Battery, Newtown Old Town Hall, Mottistone Manor Garden, Bembridge Windmill
English Heritage: Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle, Yarmouth Castle
The Island has many nice pubs serving local beer and good reasonably priced food. Many of these also have live entertainment. We can thoroughly recommend our local, ‘The Crown Inn’, directly opposite. The White Mouse Inn at Chale, The Sun Inn at Hulverstone, The Waterfront restaurant in Totland, The New Inn at Shalfleet, The Three Bishops in Brighstone are also recommended.
