Two Bedroom Cottage (sleeps4)-Perfect For A Romantic Retreat Or Unique Family Holiday

Chesterfield Cottage is a charming 16th century cottage, located in the heart of the conservation area of ancient Rye. It is situated opposite the Landgate arch and is just minutes from the historic attractions, antique shops, art galleries, bars and restaurants that Rye has to offer.

The cottage has two bedrooms and can comfortably sleep 4. There is a double bedroom on the first floor and a second bedroom in the loft that has two small (2ft6") singles.

The bedrooms and bathroom of the cottage are accessed via steep spiral staircases which may not be suitable for the elderly or very young. There is also a small step between the lounge and kitchen.

Why Richard Nutting chose Rye

We had been escaping to Rye from our busy lives in London for years, purchasing Chesterfield Cottage in 2010. After some extensive renovations to the kitchen and bathroom we have been using it as our home away from home, to relax and recharge our batteries.

There is always something going on in the town and local area, amazing beaches, walks and quiet roads to cycle.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is perfectly placed to enjoy the tea rooms, antique shops, pubs and restaurants that Rye has to offer.

Charming little cottage

I stayed with my family over Easter holidays and we had a wonderful time. The attic room is quite spacious and perfect for the kids to hang out in. Lovely main bedroom too. The cottage is warm and well equipped. The location was excellent and we found overnight parking right outside the cottage but had to move it in the morning (which didn’t matter as we were busy exploring the coast). Recommend Mermaid Inn and its stories of smugglers. Trip to Battle and to smugglers museum in Hastings also musts for children.

Pleasantly decorated and well equipped.....Had a very enjoyable few days in Rye - this is the perfect base to explore from, being centrally located for both the town and the station (if you wish to go further afield)

Very quaint and pretty.

Had a three night stay at Chesterfield cottage in the lovely town of Rye - the cottage is very well set up for self-catering but there are lots of restaurants in the town to choose from if you want a holiday away from cooking. Chesterfield is compact and cozy with bags of olde worlde character and has a lovely back garden/yard area to sit outside, the spiral staircase could prove to be challenging for anyone who is a bit dodgy on their pins. The cottage is very well located for public transport, i.e. five minutes walk from Rye train station and again about five minutes walk to the high street - we would definitely stay at Chesterfield again if we plan another trip to Rye,

Lovely place

Had a great time. Cottage was very cosy. If you have mobility issues the stairs may be a problem. The cottage is situated in an ideal location close to all the amenities, Pubs, Resturants, shops, etc.

The only issue was the parking.

We Would stay again.

The town of Rye has a unique charm and a High Street full of individual tea rooms, antique shops, boutiques, pubs and restaurants.

There is a Farmers Market on Wednesday and a weekly market on Thursdays. The town also has two fish mongers located on the wharf where you can purchase the freshest of fish just off the boats.

Ryes position in East Sussex makes a great base for exploring the 1066 countryside with its many historic towns and surrounding coast. Whether you decide on the stunning stretch of sand and dunes at Camber or the rugged pebbles beaches of Rye Harbour, Winchelsea or Pett Level, they’re all on your doorstep and can reached from the cottage on foot, by bicycle (NCR2 run from Camber to Brighton) or by car.

The Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is approximately 1.4 miles south of the town. There is a network of foot paths that provide easy waling access from Rye or you can park for free at Rye Harbour. There are five hides (with wheelchair access) in the reserve providing a wonderful view of the inhabitants of the many habitats, including wetlands, shingle ridges, sand, marsh and woodland. It is home to a wide range of species, including many considered rare or endangered in Britain.


By car: Travelling from London by car takes approx 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Either via M25 / M20 or the more scenic route M25 / A21. The cottage doesn’t have an allocated parking space but there are plenty of on street bays or Pay & Display options available.

By train: HS1 train from St Pancras International to Ashford International takes 38 minutes and it's then just 25 minutes to Rye on the Marsh link.

Booking Notes:
25% deposit is requested at time of booking, with the balance payable 6 weeks prior to your holiday.

We do require a breakages deposit of £150.00 payable at time of booking, which is fully refundable subject to no breakages or losses and the Cottage is left in a good condition.

Changeover Day:
Our normal changeover day is Friday, but we do sometimes accept other days especially out of main school holidays. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
