Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms (double, twin), sleeps 4/5 plus cot, free wifi

Welcome to Tulach, from the Gaelic meaning 'hill'. Tulach is a detached cedar wood chalet-style cottage with two bedrooms - a double and a twin. We completed a refurbishment over the winter 2015/16. Have a look at our video - http://www.youtube.com/embed/QveHDOAEYdo?rel=0. Further videos will follow shortly.

We were always proud of our cosy cottage but we have made changes that enhance the views and have upgraded throughout. Soak in the views from our beautiful extended eat-in kitchen with large windows - with a coffee in the morning and perhaps a wee dram in the evening. The kitchen is fully fitted with dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The living room benefits from an open fire, double aspect picture windows, comfy sofa, wifi, TV with satellite channels, DVD (you will find a selection of DVDs and books with a Scottish theme). The views from the living room are also wonderful. A beautiful hard wood floor runs throughout the cottage but is complemented by warm rugs and soft furnishings. The bathroom has also been upgraded, featuring a brand new suite and gorgeous 'Naranja' tiles (as seen on Grand Designs).

Outside, there is a large garden with a table and chairs for al-fresco dining in the summer. A barbecue and picnic blankets are also available. Children are very welcome, and hopefully they will spot some red squirrels in the garden! Pets are also very welcome. The wildlife in the garden can be quite exciting at times, but usually friendly - as well as red squirrels we have seen deer, grouse and pheasants. Our guests have reported many sightings!

A welcome pack of essentials to get you going is provided, something we have always appreciated on our own travels.

We are now in our seventh season and have really enjoyed welcoming guests to our lovely cottage, set in a truly fantastic location with glorious scenery and fabulous views to the west. We have always tried to ensure that the cottage is well equipped and welcoming with special touches - you will even find a set of antlers in the living room! With our extensive local knowledge of the area, we can also offer suggestions and ideas to help you make the most of your stay. We already have a Visit Scotland 3 stars grading.

The immediate surroundings are amazing - try a quick walk up the road and revel in the views. There is a river close to the house (across the road and down a little) and you can walk around here too but please watch children carefully at all times as the water is fast flowing.

We are also very proud of our bespoke walking guide, prepared by Jennifer's father who has scaled a very large number of the Munros in Scotland. To ensure a great day out, picnic blankets and picnic equipment are provided. We are now part of the Visit Scotland Walkers Welcome and Cyclists Welcome accreditation schemes.

Walking is not the only pursuit to enjoy here of course, and we will do our best to help you make the most of your stay. Or you may simply just want to relax in the cottage or garden. Don't forget to look up at the sky at night - you won't believe what you can see on a cloudless night!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fabulous base, great weather and a breath-taking locale have left us all feeling decidedly Scottish! Many many thanks for everything, it was just what we needed and the photography and astronomy is to die for! Hopefully returning later in the year to this wee gem of a house. Many many thanks again.

Notes:
There is a good selection of books and DVDs in the living room (many with a Scottish theme) and some games and jigsaws. We provide a coal bucket and a basket of logs with kindling and fire lighters to get you going and enjoy a lovely open fire on arrival. We also leave a welcome pack of essentials (milk, bread, jam, tea, coffee, biscuits) and a wee dram of whisky. We want you to settle in and relax quickly! Please do make use of our own bespoke walking guide and make use of the picnic blankets. A car is strongly recommended because the last section of the road up from Blair Atholl is fairly steep - although fit and adventurous types will cope without. Please note that the access road from Blair Atholl is a single track (with passing places). The slope up to the front door of the house is a bit steep and in wet weather can be difficult for anyone who is infirm. There is no disabled access. However, for most people access should not present any difficulties.

Peaceful Holiday Cottage in Blair Atholl

  • 5 of 5

A fabulous little pocket of tranquility, we truly enjoyed the well equipped accommodation at Tullach. Recently refurbished, we found the cottage to be very clean and well presented. The added blessing of Tullach is however the location - fabulous views over beautiful countryside. The accommodation is well placed to access local attractions such as Blair Caste, Killiecrankie, Pitlochry and the Tummel valley. There are numerous walks in the locality and we made the trek up Ben Vrakie to see some wonderful views. Weather during our stay was excellent, with wall to wall sunshine on all but one day. Contact with the landlady was concise and satisfactory. We would definitely recommend this accommodation and would stay there again.

Perfect for an active family holiday with 2 young kids. Fantastic running, walking and cycling trails nearby and lots to do in the surrounding area. Jennifer was a great host and very responsive to anything that came up.

Lovely cottage in a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Tulach Cottage. The cottage is very comfortable and had everything we needed. Jennifer, the owner, made us feel so welcome and is always readily available to answer any queries. The welcome pack and whiskey were very much appreciated.

The cottage is in a fantastic location with wonderful views and is surrounded by trees and wildlife. Wild deer can be seen roaming on distant fields and we had the occasional vist from a red squirrel. Our dogs really loved the garden which is fully enclosed, so even small dogs can't escape.

The location is a great exploration base and isn't too far off the beaten track, with Blair Atholl and Pitlochry only a short drive away.

I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage and would hope to visit again sometime in the future.

Perfect place to relax. Home from home.

  • 4 of 5

Lovely house in a beautiful setting. Ideal base for walking. So many lovely walks nearby. A car is needed as the house is quite remote but perfect if you want to get away from it all. The entrances to the house are quite steep and rather muddy if it's been raining!

The kitchen is modern and has all the equipment needed. The lounge is very cosy and the real fire was great. I would definitely come back to Tulach but maybe in the summer and hopefully get better weather!

Tulach is situated in Highland Perthshire, in an idyllic rural location in Glen Fender. We are about one and a half miles from the centre of Blair Atholl, just off the A9 being the main road north to Inverness. Pitlochry is about 7 miles away. The main train line to Inverness runs through Pitlochry and Blair Atholl and you can take a direct train from London to Pitlochry. Edinburgh airport is approximately 70 miles away. Tulach is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Indoor and outdoor activities abound, including walking (see our personalised guide), golf, cycling, fishing, shooting, canoeing and more extreme sports such as white water rafting. To relax, stroll around Blair Castle with its rich history and beautiful gardens or take a tour to see the local wildlife.
