About Mick Bigby

My name is Mick, and I have lived here now for approx 15 years, and I do not regret one minute of it. I have made lots of new friends all with different backgrounds and nationalities English, Dutch, Norwegian and of coarse French. I even meet my girlfriend here. But we all have one thing in common living here, the same love for The Limousin.

Mick Bigby purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Mick Bigby chose Limoges area

I decided to buy a house in this area after seeing how beautiful it was with it's rolling hills ,forests rivers and lakes while on holiday here. But the added bonus was the price of the houses here then (a bit dearer now). But if you value less stress in your life they are still bargain.

What makes this cottage unique

It was renovated mostly by me with the view of living in it; that is to say as a home rather than as a property to let. The cottage offers - Comfort,Peace and quiet and no pollution.

A quaint rustic gite with a touch of the 21st century thrown in.

  • 3 of 5

The gite is certainly a home from home with regards to day to day

living requirements. Well stocked in the kitchen department.

Very comfy seating and British TV much appreciated.

The garden with pond - across the road - is a nice place to

partake of some wine and nibbles after a day of touring.

The gites location is not truly represented in the sales pitch.

I like quiet and isolated. It seemed that the gite was in a quiet spot

when I read the details and looked at the photos but sadly this was not exactly the case.

(if you live on a busy road then this is very quiet).

The gite is situated on a fork in the road in a hamlet of several houses. OK, it is a narrow country road

BUT the locals and maybe others treat it like a race track.

Two sides of the gite are only several feet from the road.

If you had young children or dogs with you, you would have to watch them carefully.

The French neighbours diagonally, have at least two cars and they, in particular,

drove far too quickly passed the gite.

Downstairs, the gite is exactly as I like. Lived in and comfortable. A lovely big wooden

table. Marvellous facilities such as washing machine, fridge and freezers.

The TV is a good size. There's a DVD player whixh we didn't use so cannot comment. The wood burner was a little temperamental

but we coped.

Upstairs really needs attention. The owner said it was his intention to split the large attic

into a couple of bedrooms with a bathroom. There are hanging electric wires with light switches at the end.

There are also pipes meant for water sticking out from the floor.

I know the owner has been very ill recently but I believe the unfinished work goes back a number of years.

I could live with it but I'm not sure how it passed regulations with the letting agency?

We were there at the end of May/beginning of June,2016. It is possible the upper floor has been 'fixed'

For me I would like to relocate the gite to the quiet area promised with dangling wires sorted. It would then be

as good as perfect. OK wi-fi is reliant on a dongle, which could prove very expensive, but we used Tourist Board

Shops to do the more involved stuff. Again, unless the owner has updated to a proper wi-fi link, do not rely on this if wi-fi is a necessity.

I won't go again but I'm sure it is up to many peoples requirements.

A gem of a cottage in an idyllic rural setting.

  • 5 of 5

La Nouvelle Vie is perfect, and the surroundings paradise. We spent a delightful week here and found everything for our comfort and well-being; a superb traditional cottage, with a bonus in the form of a 21st. century utility room and shower. It was a pleasure to meet the owners, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our stay was a precious interlude of quiet and calm, in delightful countryside, with plenty of picturesque, unspoilt places to visit. The peace was beyond price, and the night sky amazing.

Peace and tranquility with home comforts

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for peace and tranquility with all the comforts of home, then this is it. We all, dogs included, thoroughly enjoyed our week in the spacious La Nouvelle Vie. Nice little touches are Mick's bread and Ruth's jam - both home-made and delicious. And I must mention the lovely huge bathsheets provided, not the little towels that you so often get. Mick was there to greet us on our arrival and couldn't be more helpful, and even though he didn't live on-site was only a phone call away should we have any problems, which I must add we didn't. The surrounding area is absolutely stunning, made even more so with the colours of the trees at this time of year. We managed a few good walks with the dogs, including Mont Gargon, and it was lovely to come back and spend the evenings in front of a real log fire. We definately want to return to the area to explore some more. Best Regards, Linsey& Max, Bertie & Meg - our Cairn Terriers.

Space and quiet countryside

  • 5 of 5

We've had a lovely stay and enjoyed the space and comfort of your house very much, starting from your warm welcome. The homemade bread and jam were delicious! It is the peace and quiet - and the lovely countryside - that struck us most as we walked a bit and cycled a bit and just soaked it up.

The idea of living in France has been hovering around - and you are a great example !
