About Miss Antonia Talbot
My name is Antonia Talbot. I'm originally from Brighton and was previously in the Antiques business. I moved out to France 12 years go with my French partner. We wanted a better, closer to nature life for ourselves and our kids. It made sense to start the gite, a project for me whilst being an "at home" mum. I've tried to keep a French feel to it and I've incorporated my love of interior decoration and Antiques to give it that certain "Je ne sais quoi"! It's been very successful in the 12 years it's been running with several guest returning year after year( 8 years for 2 families!) We are very welcoming and relaxed and I'd say we were more of a French family now (until you hear me speak French!!! ) We absolutely love having guests, we don't intrude but we are always available to help or socialize as you need.
Miss Antonia Talbot purchased this Apartment in 2007
Why Miss Antonia Talbot chose Saint-Martin-de-Gurson
The house previously belonged to some French Antique dealer friends of ours. We just fell in love with it, it's so pretty and typically French. We’ve been told it is a listed building and was originally the main house of the village. There is an old wine press in the barn so it was presumably part of a vineyard. The village is beautiful, we're not isolated but it's calm and you have the tranquility of the countryside without feeling miles away from anywhere . I prefer it's situation to further inland Dordogne, which I feel is , although very beautiful, far from anything other than countryside and caves etc Here we are right on the border of 3 departments- Gironde ,Dordogne and Charente,so you can easily visit Bordeaux or the coast etc in a day trip.
What makes this Apartment unique
As I've said we are in a small hamlet so it is quiet but we're not totally isolated, our area is dotted with pretty villages and hamlets each with their own charm . There are night/ day markets, restaurants ,bars and épiceries locally. In the village we have a bar/restaurant a stones throw from us and a shop /tabac selling all sorts of things from bread to knitting needles. There’s also a hairdresser if you need a quick trim! There’s a tennis court and a playground for kids. One of the best things about our situation is the Lac de Gurson which is about 3 km away ( some of our sporty guests go running there) We didn't know about this lake when we bought the house so we were really happy to find it on our doorstep. It's been redeveloped in recent years ,there are 2 new play areas, 2 restaurants and the beach has been landscaped and enlarged with new sand .There's fishing and I'm pretty sure they have horse riding and free canoeing in the high season too.So if you don't feel like going far you can easily nip there for a happy day at the beach.

Superb gite, comfortable and very well equipped.
We had a wonderful stay. Fabulous gite, great pool and fantastic hosts.
Wished we could have stayed longer!
Absolutely delightful. Antonia was totally kind and helpful. Lovely charming family. Beautiful property. Loved the pool. Lots of birdsong. Beautiful swallows swooping through the air at evening. Peaceful.
Amazing week spent in beautiful surroundings
We stayed at the Housemartins for a week in August, and what a fabulous week it was!
The house was as described, in a quiet village setting with a lovely bakery and little store for essentials. Bigger supermarkets where about a 10-15 minute drive away.
It was lovely to have the use of the gorgeous clean pool and the beautiful gardens. We spent many hours lazing on the decking by the pool soaking up the August sunshine, while the boys spent their time swimming, diving, racing on the inflatables and playing swing ball. Followed by al fresco BBQ's at dusk surrounded by fragrant lavender plants and flickering candles.
We travelled by hire car from Bergerac Airport and the journey was easy and stress free.
Brilliant communication from the day we booked, and whilst on holiday - nothing was too much trouble.
We would 100% visit again and would highly recommend this property - a real home from home.
Thank you Antonia and Pierre
Great property in peaceful location with excellent swimming pool. Antonia and her family were very friendly and were always available for any queries. Would recommend.
Dear Antonia ,

Special interest holidays:
Aquitaine is a really fabulous and diverse region of France.Bordered by the Atlantic coast with miles and miles of sandy dunes and surf, inland to breathtaking countryside abundant with forests and rivers, vineyards and Chateaux. There are beautiful towns and spectacular cities, full of culture and steeped with history - right back to prehistoric times.
St Martin de Gurson is on the border of Gironde and the Dordogne ,1.5hrs from the coast,we're 45
Lminutes from Bordeaux and 40 mins from Perigueux. The climate is superb, the food fabulous and the sights plentiful.
Just 3km from our house there is the Lac de Gurson, a beautiful lake for swimming. There is a sandy beach, 2snack bars (serving good meals, snacks, wine etc), picnic tables, 2 play areas, fishing and horse riding(subject to season) It's a wonderfully relaxing place to spend the day or evening.
We have the bonus of being on the border of Gironde with spectacular Bordeaux 45mins away, the Atlantic Coast, Dune de Pyla, surfers town Lacanau and the resort town of Arcachon all just 1.5hrs drive away.
Airport: Bergerac 30 km,Bordeaux 70ks
Ferry: Caen 700 km
Train station: Montpon 10 km
Heading north from us around 35mins away there is the pretty village of Aubeterre,it makes me think of the book/film "CHOCOLAT"it's well worth a visit just to sit in the square with a coffee or explore the monolithic Church of St Jean, built into the cliff face -it's very spooky ! Take your swimming things too as the river here is wonderful for swimming
We are located in the heart of St Martin de Gurson, one of a number of picturesque villages in the Bergerac/Bordeaux wine region.Set amidst forests and vineyards there is plenty to do either by car or on foot.
In the village there is a grocer/bakers,a general store selling almost everything, a hairdressers and a tennis court
It's 10 minutes drive to the nearest town of Montpon where you can find supermarkets, several boutiques, hairdresser, pharmacies etc
If you're into markets there's one everyday in the immediate area.Saturday morning at St Foy (15mins by car)is a must being one of the top 100 in France, you can find all sorts of goodies and the atmostphere is fantastic- truly French.
Throughout July and August there are also local night markets .A relatively small one, but still lots of fun, every Friday evening at Villefranche de Lonchat (5minutes drive) and a much bigger one every Tuesday evening at Le Pizou which is a 10 min drive from us.This is a great evening, there are tables set out in the village square, music and lots of stalls selling local cuisines from Confit de Canard to Oysters and Moules and of course plenty of wine!
St Emilion with it's ancient cobbled streets and world famous wines is just a 25 minutes drive west through stunning vineyards ,dotted with spectacular Chateaux..Everyone loves this town,it's full of history and beautifully kept, with wonderful buildings and Churches, fabulous restaurants, art galleries and smart boutiques.
In the opposite direction you will find numerous historic towns such as Bergerac famous for it's wine and that old philanderer Cyrano!
Medieval Sarlat and Perigueux are unmissable with the surrounding countryside full of prehistoric caves(Lascaux), ancient dwellings and impressive castles. There's also heaps of activities from canoeing on the Dordogne river to zip sliding through treetops at Bergerac's " Accrobranche" (huge fun if you're not afraid of heights!)
