This property is a stone house with private pool, and patio, sleeping 10 in 6 bedrooms. Set in two acres, on top of a hill, it enjoys a fabulous 270 degree panorama and views to the cliffs of the Dordogne. The house is on the edge of Lostanges - a village between Brive and Beaulieu sur Dordogne. Three double bedrooms, one twin and two single bedrooms, two shower rooms, dishwasher, washer, dryer. More details. There is one large double room (see photos), one other double room and a room with a double sofa bed. There is a downstairs room with two single beds. There are two single bedrooms - with room to bed down on an air mattress if you need more room. There are two shower rooms. There is a living room and a kitchen. In summer much activity occurs on the outside, shaded, terrace which has great views (see photos). The pool is about 6 by 3.5 metres in length. There is carpet upstairs and tiles downstairs. The house has central heating - but this will not be required for typical rentals. We use the house ourselves and have three boys - so it is not completely pristine! We trust you will find it clean and comfortable - but it is not a Four Seasons hotel! We have a dishwasher, washer, dryer, and the house is generally fully kitted out with the necessaries and various games and toys. We own the land around the house which is grazed by sheep periodically to keep the grass down. You are free to roam around. We have a small garden around the pool with a supply of herbs. Our (English) neighbor takes care of the property and is extremely capable, being a builder and farmer who also rents his own properties - so any issue can normally be dealt with quickly. On request they may be able to sell you home grown produce at very reasonable rates. The location is between Brive and Beaulieu, up in the hills but only 20 minutes from the Dordogne river. Some typical sites nearby are Collanges la Rouge, Curemont, Beaulieu sur Dordogne and the river itself. Within an hour you can find Turenne, Rocamadur, the Gouffre de Padirac, Chateau de Castlenaud, Soulliac and numerous pretty villages and caves. A little further afield you can get to Lascaux, Sarlat and the heart of the Dordogne (we are to the East). Local activities include tennis, kayaking, golf, horse riding. There is lots of swimming, walking and bird watching. We can arrange for sheet and towel hire if required. We can provide some reviews of previous visitors if required (this is our first year on this site). Typical comments are that the views are magnificent and it is an extremely relaxing location, with plenty to do. The house is comfortable and the kind of place a family can hang out and relax. The pool is a great asset during the summer. We seem to have very happy customers in general.

About Jo Whitehead
We live in the UK and have owned our house in France since 1989. We love the French countryside - particularly in the spring, summer and autumn.
Jo Whitehead purchased this House in 1989
Why Jo Whitehead chose Lostanges
Beautiful countryside, walking, things to see, the Dordogne river, history and pre-history, and, of course, la Belle france.
What makes this House unique
What everyone comments on is the magnificent view and how it makes just sitting a pleasure. Time passes... But - there is lots to do if you want to get out. The Dordogne (swimming, kayaking), many medieval villages, bastides and castles, pre-history (Lascaux) the home of fois gras, country life, walking, riding, golf, a few things for kids too...lots to see and do

Lovely Dordogne gite with fantastic sunset views
We had a fabulous stay at this lovely gite in Lostanges. The children spent almost the entire week in the pool allowing us to enjoy beautiful views over the Dordogne valley. Sunset was a special time each day and it's hard to imagine a more wonderful place to get away from it all. The house is spacious, even for a family with six kids as we have, and there's plenty to do locally including visiting Rocamadour and the local caves. But the most fun was had swimming in the Dordogne river which is less than half an hour away. Peter and Margaret next door are on hand if need be and the village itself is small and peaceful with good shops only a short drive away. Many thanks to Jo and Monica for allowing us to stay there at such short notice when our other holiday plans fell through, and we certainly look forward to going back to Lostanges again in the future. Tim and Ann
Wonderful place to unwind, with site-seeing and activity opportunities close by
The location of the house is great with wonderful panoramic views from the terrace. The house is an ideal place to relax, re-charge and socialise with lots to see and do in the vicinity. The kitchen is well equipped and the whole house has a rustic charm.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and found everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Thanks for the review!
An amazing place for a refreshing break
There are breathtaking, fairy-tale views - nearby hills emerging from the mist in the early morning, enchanting sunsets that you can watch whilst sitting on the patio and sipping wine with an evening meal, and striking starry skies at night, which you can observe from the swimming pool if you fancy! We stayed with our extended family and enjoyed every moment of it. A splendid house, spacious yet with a warm, homely feel, a beautiful tranquil location, plenty of pleasant walks through charming French hamlets and countryside, and in general plenty of things to see, including quirky little towns and ancient villages. Even such gems as mediaeval Turenne and the fascinating prehistoric caves of Lascaux are not too far if you don't mind driving. The little ones amongst us were paddling in the pool whilst the more mature part of the family were absorbing the nature and the culture. Highly recommended as a holiday retreat, to relax, restore your energy, get some inspiration and bond with friends and family members - not to mention the local food and wine! - Tanya, Chris and family.
Thank you very much for spending the time reviewing the property - it really helps potential visitors.
Merci beaucoup Carole.
The house is not a 5 star accomodation but if you are looking for a relaxing holiday, peace and quiet this is the place to be.
In the afternoon enjoy the great pool and in the evening, watch how the magnificent view (best in the region) changes every minute. Then finally after sunset all that is left is to enjoy the silence........
Many thanks for your review. I am glad you were able to make good use of all that fruit!
There are numerous places to swim on the banks of the Dordogne
Brive/Soulliac is the nearest airport - 30 minutes away. Limoges is 1 hour 15 minutes.
The nearest town is Meyssac which is about 15 minutes away (11 km)
The village is very quiet so the nearest town for shopping, bread and markets is Meyssac (although bread is available at Curemonte, 8km away)
