The recently renovated open-plan living area on the upper level enjoys spectacular views and sunsets over the lagoon where it meets the wild Atlantic Ocean. Fully opening glass doors give access to the roof terrace with brick built barbecue and outdoor eating or sitting space. It is complemented by a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and comfortable indoor seating with a wood burning stove for chilly evenings out of the main holiday season (note there is no central heating). The natural wood ceiling, white walls, terracotta floor and blue and white tiles in the cloakroom maintain the Portuguese style. We built the villa 30 years ago, have grown up there and our children love it so we have recently refurbished it, maintaining the traditional feel and blending in modern amenities. The villa is spacious with large rooms and the multiple living areas mean that everyone can find their own space to relax. The entrance hall from the front door is spacious and will easily accommodate push chairs and car seats. Three main bedrooms are on this level as well as a large lounge and a steep oak staircase to the upper floor. The fenced garden setting is safe for children and the established trees and shrubs provide shade if needed. In this part of Portugal there is often a light breeze making the temperature very pleasant for sitting in the sun. The pool has a sheltered terraced area for sunbathing and is sunny for most of the day. The Pool View room is on the lower level by the pool with a small kitchenette. The villa is on a small mature development at the end of a cul de sac with parking outside, making it an excellent base to explore the area and much of Portugal. The verandah on the mid-level also provides a shady place to sit and overlook the pool in the hot days of summer.

About Sheila Featherstone-Clark
We are an extended family covering all ages - young children, teenagers, students, parents and pensioners - we all love to relax here. We go for short breaks and longer holidays and are always sad to leave. We were seduced by the magic of the lagoon and 30 years later have not tired of it; even though we look over it every day we are there. There is something for everyone, whether it be cafes and cakes for my father, sailing for my brother, sunbathing or shopping for the girls; cycling or walking in the countryside. Our neighbours are lovely too. We are happy to make suggestions if you have specific interests, do ask.
Sheila Featherstone-Clark purchased this Villa in 1980
Why Sheila Featherstone-Clark chose Nadadouro
We love this part of Portugal, preferring its traditional feel, beautiful unspoilt beaches, friendly people and the magic of the lagoon which we see every morning from our villa. It is an ideal place for a relaxing break for couples and families with children, and is well located to visit other areas of Portugal. The local restaurants are exceptional value and welcome children; alternatively the local butcher will cut meat for the barbeque. The Caldas fish market is one of the best in Portugal and the vegetables from the market are so fresh and tasty you will want to cook them. We built the villa 30 years ago, we have grown up there and our children love it too so, we have recently refurbished it, maintaining the traditional feel and blending in some modern amenities. It is furnished as our second home and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
What makes this Villa unique
You will be enchanted by the amazing view in all weathers and the villa is spacious and well appointed. It is easy to get here, flying to Lisbon it is a 1 hour drive, mainly on motorway to get to the villa - there is parking outside. This also makes it viable for a long weekend visit, which we often do in the mid season as the weather is often very warm in the day right through to the end of October. If you arrive without a car the regular fast buses go to Caldas da Rainha, a short taxi ride away. These take about an hour and cost 8 Euros per person. It is easier to have a car to explore the area but there is plenty to do without; we do have some bikes available for hire. The property is furnished and decorated in the Portuguese style of white walls and tiling, positioned above the Lagoa da Obidos with a breathtaking panorama of views to the end of the Lagoon and to the Atlantic Ocean, just at the point where the sun sets in the summer. The newly refurbished kitchen and living area, with floor to ceiling fully opening glass doors, allow us to enjoy this timeless view at any time of year. This is a great base to visit many of Portugal's most interesting places driving along the coast roads, or the motorway network is within easy reach, and it is in the middle of the country.

Beautiful and very well-equipped villa
Casa das Plumas is a traditional Portuguese villa. The view of the Óbidos Lagoon from the top floor kitchen/sitting room is stunning. All the bedrooms are comfortable and immaculately clean. Overall, staying there was a real pleasure and there is so much to see in the area. This is the real Portugal!
Glad you enjoyed visiting the markets and monuments and found plenty to do. As you discovered, the climate is variable however, there is plenty to explore and see from here, or space to relax in the house, whatever the weather. The view of the storm clouds over the Atlantic from the upper lounge is mesmerising too.
Amazing sparkles on the lagoon in the sunshine
Lovely to sit on the terrace in warm sunshine at the end of October.
Lovely views and plenty of space
We booked Casa Das Plumas as a group of friends wanting to explore the area. The house proved to be a fantastic for exploring with easy driveable access to Obidos, Caldas Da Rainha and surrounding coastline. The house itself is very well equipped and spacious enough for a group, with a fabulous living space upstairs and lovely views from the ample roof terrace. The internal stairs are steep but we didn't find this an issue, there is also as there is an external staircase that can be easily used.
The communications with the owner and housekeeper were superb, with lots of information provided - we felt well-looked after without the attention being intrusive. The local restaurants were very good, in both Nadadouro and nearby Foz, and the closest ones being much cheaper than Lisbon. Yes, you might need to drive but we left the car behind one night after a few glasses of wine - it's easy and not too pricey to get a taxi, and we had a lovely walk along the lagoon into Foz the next day to pick up the car.
I'd recommend this house, and to anyone who hasn't visited the area, do visit and explore - it's beautiful.
Beautiful Authentic Villa with Stunning Views
I spent 2 weeks at the property staying in the master bedroom and it was fantastic. The décor and finish of the villa is to a very high standard and the large open plan living area on the top floor was the perfect place to spend evenings.
Good, well equipped kitchen and a traditional easy to use BBQ. The pool was clean and the outside areas were well kept and spacious.
The location is great. The sailing club a few minutes walk away is ideal and there were too many attractions within a 30 minute drive to fit them all in over 14 days. The area itself is quiet without being disconnected and the neighbours are very pleasant.
Finally the information provided by Sheila is second to none. There is a pack at the villa which is clearly the result of many years visiting the area and tells you everything you need to know to enjoy Portugal off the beaten track. Every restaurant listed was 10/10 and it took away the "pot luck" factor so often encountered when choosing places to eat abroad as everywhere was tried and tested.
I cant wait to stay again!
Hidden Gem with stunning views over Obidos Lagoon
Casa Da Plumas is a hidden gem. We loved the open plan lounge with stunning views over Obidos Lagoon. The house was really well equipped with lots of comfortable seating.
Sheila sent us lots of information on things to do in the area and came back to us promptly on all our queries. We can particularly recommend the Sailing Club and Cafe D. Lenor in Dom Carlos Park in Caldas Da Rainha. The location provided a great base for touring the area. Carla was great providing information and recommendations for places to visit and things to do. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Casa da Plumas
Thank you. Our house reflects the welcome and traditions of this special area and we are happy to share it with others who appreciate the same things. Glad you found us!
Beautiful property, Spectacular view
Had a wonderful time at this home. Enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the sunset.. would stay there again in a heartbeat. Originally thought it was closer to Nazare but we were very happy to have ended up where we did.
Really glad it worked out well for you, it is a good location to get up the coast to Nazare, especially with the motorway, but more relaxing. The weather is still so good right through October and some of the sunsets are better than in the summer months.
5 minutes walk to the lagoon shore and the Sailing Club (catamaran, wind surfing and kite surfing hire & tuition), 5 minutes drive to the main Foz bathing beach - also accessible via the cycle path (approx 10 minutes). For more adventurous beaches, all less than 40 minutes drive: surfing at Baleal, visit to the Berlenga islands from Peniche, Salgado for the huge waves, Nazare for the funicular and Salir with the huge sand dune for the children to climb and a boardwalk over the water.
Lisbon (90km) is the nearest airport; an hour's mainly motorway drive, there is parking outside the villa It is also possible to fly to Porto (2 hours away) or to Faro (4 hours) if you also want to visit the Algarve. Arriving without a car: regular fast buses go to Caldas da Rainha, taking about an hour and costing 8 Euros per person, a short taxi ride away from Casa das Plumas. It is easier to have a car to explore the area but possible without one by using taxis, buses or bicycles.
Village of Nadadouro (700m), Foz do Arelho (1.5km) a little further to the beach with a lovely promenade and bars/restaurants. Caldas Da Rainha (6km) - for the fruit and veg market (not sunday), fish market (not Sunday/Monday) & hospital.
Many interesting places to visit easily accessible by car via the excellent motorways including World Heritage sites of Obidos - a beautiful mediaeval walled city (8km), Tomar - Knights Templar castle (70km), Alcobaca (30km) huge monastery and pottery shops.
The local restaurants are exceptional value and welcome children; there are several in Nadadouro within walking distance and Foz do Arelho a 5 minute drive/ 1 mile walk. There are banks and small shops and post offices in both places. Alternatively the butcher in Foz will cut meat for the barbeque for you. The Caldas da Rainha fish market (10 minute drive or 30 min cycle)is one of the best in Portugal and the vegetables from the market there are so fresh and tasty if you prefer to cook and enjoy a meal on the terrace.
We particularly enjoy the plentiful busy cafes offering delicious and very reasonable snacks and cakes to relax and watch the world go by. The local sailing club offers a range of boats, kayaks and paddle boarding together with instruction if required and there is also fishing and kite-surfing on the lagoon. There are lovely walks and cycle paths round the lagoon area and it is a good place for bird watching, photography or just looking for shells on the lagoon shore, there is also a running/cycle path by the lagoon. The local Foz beach is on the lagoon side of the sandspit so is safe for swimming and beach tents can be hired for the day. The shady park with the boating lake in Caldas is always popular with children - there is a water park an hour away. Horse riding, bowling, go-karting and tennis are available in Caldas. There are also good shops in Caldas if you want to go shopping.
For the evening there are nightclubs in Caldas and during August the local villages each hold a week long ‘festa’ with live bands and dancing, stalls and food.
There are so many interesting places to visit - just ask if you want more ideas!
