About Lynda Partridge

My husband and I live in rural Devon with our pet dogs and chickens. We moved here in 2013 as an 'escape to the country'. We love the beautiful English countryside, the seclusion and the friendly locals. After holidaying in Devon for many years, this was our favourite area and where we chose to settle.

Great clean cottage

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful stay, firstly the fresh scones and clotted cream on arrival a nice touch. We found everyting we needed to make our stay memorable, we had the fire going all weekend! Will definitely be going back! My kids enjoyed it so much didn't want to go home. Thanks Lynda for your hospitality.

No Place Cottage -Review August 2108

  • 4 of 5

Although the cottage is in a quiet location with access down some narrow country lanes it is easy to find using a Sat Nav and owner Lynda provided a warm welcome, plus a Devon cream tea, on arrival.

The cottage is clean, comfortable and well maintained; and we had everything we needed for our stay. While the owners live on-site we still felt independent, with our own parking and garden. We were encouraged to walk around their woodland area and wildflower meadow, which would probably be at its best in late spring/early summer.

As nature lovers we routinely take our bat detector on holiday with us, so were thrilled to discover that a recent survey had found that the vast majority of UK species can be found in the immediate area. The cottage owners are clearly keen to provide productive habitats for local wildlife and we think this is something they should promote further in their online information. In the cottage itself, more information on the local bat species and a guide to the wildflowers that can be found in the meadow would be helpful.

Beach-goers were catered for with a variety of sandcastle moulds, spades and a windbreak and there were plenty of information leaflets for those who wanted to sample the local attractions. We would have liked to see a visitors book in the cottage, where people can write their recommendations of places to eat or visit. This is the first cottage we have stayed in which didn't have one.Online reviews often don't cover these type of recommendations and it's nice to have a physical copy to flick through during a stay, especially for those wishing to have some tech-free downtime.

We love the drama of the North Devon coast, so would highly recommend a visit to the fabulous cliff formations at Hartland Quay (our geology graduate was in his element there). You can park at Hartland Quay Hotel. There is a small charge for access on the toll road, but no additional parking charge.

A little further afield are the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, which the Victorians referred to as Little Switzerland. The villages are picturesque and there are several lovely walks, including along the gorge of the River Lyn or around the headland to the Valley of the Rocks, incorporating a trip on the Lynmouth cliff railway makes the latter extra special.

For sand and surf we recommend Croyd or Woolacoombe. There is also a lovely walk around Baggy Point, which separates the two.

Ilfracombe and its harbour are also worth a visit.

A wonderful long weekend

  • 5 of 5

Four of my family (plus our dog) stayed here because of its proximity to a family celebration in a nearby village. In the event it turned out to be an excellent choice. Lynda couldn't have been more welcoming and the accommodation was spacious and comfortable. The location is blissfully peaceful and we loved exploring the extensive grounds. Next time we shall stay longer.

‘No Place’ like it

  • 5 of 5

The beautiful, clean, well kept cottage has everything you could want. The lovely hosts who made sure we had everything we needed along with a cream tea on arrival was a welcome touch. The gardens along with the swing was nice with lovely views. The surrounding countryside was peaceful and what was needed after a day exploring with the kids. Would definitely come back and will be recommending the cottage to all my friends and family.

A little gem in a peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

Overall we had a great week staying here. The dogs were in their element.

The owners allowed us the use of their personal garden, together with use of playing field with a shaded swing seat, shady woodland with a tree house in overlooking the field and a wooded copse behind with a fire pit and little wooded seats around it. You could imagine singing songs around the campfire.

The roads around are generally very peaceful as you are away from the real tourist hot spots, so good for walking around the lanes with the dogs, but the dogs are allowed to walk in the playing field and the wooded area and use for toileting as long as you are responsible and "bag it and bin it".

The added bonus was the glorious weather, for May we were unbelievably spoiled.

Saunton Sands a 25 minute drive away and the dogs loved the sea.

I was really very sad to leave. we felt so at home there.

The only note of caution is if you are tall, the upstairs doorways to the bathroom and bedroom are low. Probably OK if you are 5' 6" or under and you can easily bang your head on the low eaves above the shower, so possibly better to have a bath and wash hair sitting down.

The downstairs bedroom is beautiful with a king sized memory foam matress, so you would just need to pop upstairs for the bathroom.

Other than that it was perfect for us for the dog's annual holiday and we will definitely be going again in the future.
