About the property

Self catering accommodation in heart of the Lake District

Crofton Cottage is a charming, family owned, period stone cottage in the heart of Bowness on Windermere. This beautiful region has now joined the likes of the Grand Canyon and the Taj Mahal by being awarded Unesco World Heritage Status.

An ideal base for exploring the southern lakes, the cottage is a short walk from the town centre and its restaurants and shops and the steamer pier on Lake Windermere.

This self-catering cottage sleeps up to 4 people and has 1 beautifully decorated double bedroom with built in wardrobes, television and DVD and 1 twin bedded bedroom with wardrobe and bedside cabinets. It has two lounges both with gas fires, televisions, DVD players and gaming consoles, a well equipped kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher, freezer and fridge together with a separate dining area, and bathroom with power shower and bath.

Outside is a separate storeroom with tumble dryer and space for storing walking boots. The cottage has a small courtyard at the rear, which has seating for 4, and a BBQ for al fresco dining. Parking via parking permit which is free.

Please not due to the design of the cottage we are unable to accept bookings for children under the age of 3 years of age.

We do not accept bookings for hen/stag groups.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have stayed at many holiday rental houses over the years, some abroad and some in the UK, and your cottage was certainly one of the most comfortable and well equipped. My partner and son loved the cycling (including Hardknott Pass) and the weather was kind to us until the last day. We would certainly consider another visit.

Delightful home with everything you need.

  • 5 of 5

We had a way wonderful 3 days at Cockroft Cottage. The home had everything for a comfortable relaxed vacation. The kitchen was well equipped; information on Lake District walks plentiful; Apple TV; and an easy walk into town for dinner or a stop at the CoOp market.

Our only constructive comment is that we think there needs to be an electric outlet in the bathroom, both for plugging in a night light and other electric uses. If there was one, we could not find it. Please know that this is not criticism. Rather, it is just a suggestion to make a delightful house even better.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your review. We are very pleased to hear the cottage met with your approval and that you had an enjoyable stay. Thank you for your suggestion on an electric socket in the bathroom. As yet we do not have one but it is very helpful to know what our guests would like and we shall endeavour to look into this. Kind regards Kim & David

Lovely home from home cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a lovely week in Crofton Cottage. The cottage is lovely, decorated and furnished to a high standard, everything you need. It was lovely and clean on arrival, with lots of little extras like some coffee, tea and milk sachets until you got to a shop to get your essentials.

The Cottage is very central, just off the Main Street, but also very quiet. It was lovely to be able to walk straight into the town and have everything nearby. There are lots of lovely restaurants and cafes in the town, so you don't need to travel. Lots of information leaflets in the coffee table, to help you decide where to go. We will definitely recommend Crofton Cottage to anyone wanting to stop in the area and will hopefully return ourselves sometime soon! Thankyou.

Stunning and spacious cottage in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Crofton cottage was perfect! The cottage was deceivingly spacious with two really good sized bedrooms and two sitting rooms, the perfect size for a family of 4. All rooms were clean and tidy and decorated beautifully. The cottage is situated just outside of the hustle and bustle of Bowness with a lovely little cinema at the end of the road as well as plenty of restaurants and cafes and a little supermarket nearby! It only takes 10 minutes to walk down to the town and lake and we never had a problem parking the car near the cottage. We all had a wonderful time and would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful well maintained Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful very well maintained Cottage with everything you need ...very home from home. Beds very comfortable and gorgeous bright bedding. A washer and dryer were a massive bonus The fact you have two living area's downstairs would make it ideal for anyone with Children as there were consoles and computer games in the front room if needed to occupy the kids. All in all a very pleasant stay in one of the best Cottage we have stayed in while Holidaying in The Lakes. Many Thanks Mary x
