We are located on Channel Ridge looking toward Vancouver Island at approximately 450 ft. elevation. This makes us eye level with the eagle's nest in the front yard. Our custom home on a 5 secluded acre estate is an elegant West Coast contemporary built in 2005 that offers absolute privacy, sensational ocean vistas, and majestic forests with rambling trails for hiking, or biking on several hundred adjacent wild acres.

About Eliot Kaplan
We moved to Salt Spring in 2005, after living for many years in more urban environments, delighted by the quiet peace of this rural landscape, and the surrounding sea, and built this custom home, and more recently, the guest cottage.
Eliot Kaplan purchased this Estate in 2005
Why Eliot Kaplan chose Salt Spring Island
Salt Spring Island, as if hidden behind the "veil of Avalon", feels like a long sought sanctuary after an arduous journey! Numerous organic farms, and incredible natural diversity, among nestled valleys and mountain peaks unusual among the islands, along with several accessible lakes, all surrounded by the inland waters of the Salish Sea, make the silence and the ambiance of the island more than engaging! Mountain biking and hiking trails begin right at the back door, and days of kayak adventures can be initiated only minutes from the house.
What makes this Estate unique
The house is a very meditative space. It sits high up on a hill overlooking the spectacular mountains of Vancouver Island, and is eye level with an active eagles nest in the front yard. Miles of hiking and biking trails begin at the back door, and the ocean is a short stroll. The gourmet kitchen is the house's equal, with quality appliances throughout, stocked with Iron Clad cookware. The propane based BBQ just outside the kitchen door will help facilitate delicious meals from abundant local farms seasonal offerings (or the farmer's markets).

Fantastic location and a beautiful house.
Spectacular view and setting on the north end of Salt Spring Island. The craftsmanship of the house and the design were stunning. Fully equipped kitchen - even spices, oil, vinegar etc. All the appliances you would need. Nice romantic get away for the two of us but also would be perfect for a family or a few couples. Great mountain biking out the back door. Eliot the owner, was very attentive. We were on Salt Spring for a major storm in December ( storm of the century) and fortunately the house even has a backup generator so we had all the comforts when the rest of the island was without power. There is a big beautiful fireplace, so pick up some firewood at the grocery store if you are staying in the winter and would like a fire. Highly recommend this spot. We look forward to returning!
Japanese aesthetic home overlooking a WSW view of nearby Vancouver Island. Japanese soaking tub is wonderful; somehow it is totally different than a bath. Beautiful cabinetry and a general sense of a human being having taken an active interest in its creation and not only its design. Immediate access to a beautiful trail system through gorgeous forest areas; literally out the back door. There are multiple mindful little things throughout the home.
Lighting is a bit confusing in terms of what controls what and a nice reading lamp here or there would have been nice. Small potatoes.
Peaceful and relaxing location
Eliot’s house was wonderful! We enjoyed our stay and look forward to another visit to Salt Spring Island.
A magical escape!
Every aspect of this holiday was beyond our expectation and it is clear that the owner, Eliot, has given great thought as to how best make his guests comfortable and welcome.
Eliot has a lightness of touch that struck a perfect chord with us. He is a fabulous host who makes himself very available when needed and is a pleasure to talk to on any subject. His depth of local knowledge really helped us to enjoy aspects of the island we may not have discovered on our own.
The house is generously proportioned, high end without feeling uptight and equipped for your every need. It is situated on a tremendous plot with ever-changing ocean views.
We are a family of four and also had our two dogs with us but the house was so spacious that we could easily find our own places to relax or enjoy time together. From the moment we arrived, we all felt like we had made a true escape from our regular lives.
Salt Spring itself has much to offer and everything felt within easy reach from the house. The Saturday market for example, was a major draw for us. However, the greatest pleasure for us was just to sit on the deck in the evening, surrounded by arbutus trees, listening to nature and wondering how different this night's sunset would look from that of the night before. The views really are truly spectacular.
The property is very pet friendly and it is fair to say that the dogs looked as disappointed to be leaving this magical place as we were! We recommend Bamboo Grove without any hesitation and have already talked about returning.
Thank you Blythe, you are very kind! As well as we might have done, you were an equally superlative guest, both sensitive and caring of the property as any owner could ask, and as friendly and delightful as we could have imagined! We will always welcome you, Russell and the kids back warmly at any time!
We have stayed on Salt Spring Island several times and this is by far the nicest home we have stayed in! The home is beautiful, private, close to many trails, and has the best views we have ever seen on the island! The host was wonderful and everything was just perfect for our stay. Highly recommend this home for your vacation!
We had a wonderful long weekend at Bamboo Grove - what a slice of heaven. I’m not sure pictures can do this house or the view justice, it is stunning. Eliot was very helpful and responded to our questions quickly while also respecting our privacy. Enjoyed sitting on the decks, hiking Channel Ridge and using the soaker tub. Highly recommend the property to anyone!
Self initiated art tours are available year round when the artists are available. Many studios can be visited and the locations are mapped. Consult the "Studio Tour" brochure in the kitchen or at the Visitor Centre in town for further information.
