(Please note that in season our changeover day is a Saturday, but out of season shortbreaks are available. Please don't hesitate to ask). Great Philham Parlour is a beautifully converted parlour, being well appointed and offering spacious accommodation. We converted the parlour ourselves and we maintain it with all the love, care and attention that went into the original conversion. It offers a private courtyard area and access to a large paddock with rope swings and trampoline. Situated in the heart of the Devon countryside, with stunning view of the surrounding fields, but within 2 miles of Hartland, Hartland Quay and the West Country Coastal Path, with its rugged, yet spectacular coastline. Sandy beaches can be found nearby at Sandymouth and Bude, all of which offer excellent surfing and body boarding experiences. About Mark Brumham
We moved to this beautiful part of Devon in 2007 as part of our "New Life in the Country" plan. We found Great Philham House with its unconverted barn and could not turn down the opportunity and challenge of creating our own holiday cottage. Lorraine and I ensured that the barn was finished to a high standard, with character and luxury. We are so delighted with the result, that we stay in the cottage ourselves for an occasional holiday, even though its only next door! Having worked hard to provide the highest standard of accommodation, we would now like to welcome everyone else to come and enjoy this fantastic part of Devon and are wonderful holiday cottage.
Mark Brumham purchased this Barn in 2007
Why Mark Brumham chose Hartland
We are situated in the heart of the Hartland Peninsular and surrounded by Devon countryside. Its very difficult to accurately describe the area, as there are so many redeeming features, there is simply everything on offer here. Peaceful and tranquil surroundings, fantastic views, rugged coast line, hidden coves, sandy beaches to name but a few. You simply cant help but fall in love with the area, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, the local pubs are full of atmosphere and local ale! You can walk for miles, either in land or along the fabulous west country coastal path. The hamlet of Philham, whist off the main routes, has easy access to the town of Hartland and the main A39, with links to Cornwall.
What makes this Barn unique
The Parlour enjoys a large, private, enclosed, child friendly courtyard which is excellent for BBQ, eating out and soaking up the sunshine. There is also a large lawn / meadow with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It is ideal for children of all ages, as there are rope swings and large trampoline available to play on. Inside there is a large open plan living area, with fully fitted kitchen, leather suite, large dinning table and a warm cast iron wood burner. There is also a games area, with multi function tabletop football / pool table. The accommodation is well appointed, with large bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, including a family bathroom, with Jack and Jill Doors and a fabulous roll top bath.

This was the best VRBO we have stayed in to date. Beautiful place and surroundings ,very peaceful.
Had at lovely time celebrating my Sisters 70th Birthday visiting The Eden project,Bude and westward ho. Shame the weather didn’t cooperate the first few days with our good friends but cleared up when my Sister and partner came. Would recommend this to everyone.
Wow, what a wonderful review, thank you Peter, really appreciated. So glad you had a great stay with us and thank you for taking the time to tell everyone about it.
Lovely to meet you all and hopefully, if you find yourselves back in the UK, you will look us up again.
All the very best,
Lorraine and Mark
This is a beautiful holiday home! It is tastefully decorated and immaculate throughout. The breakfast pack that Lorraine and Mark provide is wonderful and tasty 😋. My family thought it was a little remote but I thought it was a perfect retreat to have some quality family time - lovely not to have to share the bathroom! 👍🏻 I am already missing my bedroom and pool table. Mark and Lorraine are on hand to help with anything you need. If I ever visit North Devon again I wouldn’t hesitate in booking the amazing property.
Thank you for your wonderful review Sarah, so glad you had a great time staying at the Parlour and thank you for telling other about our holiday home, it really is very much appreciated.
Lovely to meet you all and we very much hope you will look to stay with us again in the future,
All the very best, Lorraine and Mark
Stunning and immaculate accommodation with a superb location.
We have just enjoyed our two week stay at the parlour and can say that the reviews we read were absolutely spot on. Mark and Lorraine deserve every one of those stars. We miss it already. It was a stunning property with huge bedrooms and everything we needed. The welcome pack was a lovely touch too with some provisions for when we arrived. Mark and Lorraine were lovely, there if we needed them, but left us to enjoy their holiday let. It was so peaceful with the paddock for our girls, 13 and 10, to run around and our 2 cockerpoos to have a play as well. We hope to go back again and would thoroughly recommend a visit. We took our slow cooker and wok with us but everything else we needed to self cater was there. We loved the kitchen and the open plan set up downstairs. It just had such a lovely feel to it. We enjoyed the log burner on one of the cooler evenings, used the charcoal bbq for a couple of meals while we were there too. We took coals with us. We visited lots of places; Westward Ho, Barnstaple, Bude, Sandymouth National Trust beach, The Big Sheep, Clovelly (which was only about 3 miles away and stunning) and many more places. Hartland is a lovely little village and the quay was well worth a visit. It was Hartland carnival while we were there and bless them they got soaked but everyone made every effort to enjoy it. There were some fabulous floats and everyone had a good time and we went down in the pouring rain to support them. Lol. We did a bit of shopping at the Atlantic Village retail outlet and had so many beach days with our girls, body boarding. We just had the best time. The weather had turned a bit cooler but we just loved our holiday and miss the comfort and welcme of the Parlour. Thank you so much to Mark and Lorraine, we couldn't recommend you enough and really do hope to make a repeat visit. We wish you every success for the future and keep doing what you are doing. Best wishes from the Smith Familiy. 😊
Well, what can we say, but thank you for a wonderful review and for all your positive feedback. You have highlighted all of the key parts of the cottage and the area, which will really help others when making a decision to book, I can't see why they would want to go anywhere else. Believe it or not, Lorraine and I stayed in the cottage for my birthday, it didn't make any sense to go anywhere else, so we enjoyed our own cottage, even though its next door!
So glad you had a great stay and very much hoping you will return in the future.
Thanks again for taking the time to write such a wonderful review, its really appreciated.
All the best, Lorraine and Mark
We have just experienced a wonderful holiday on the Hartland peninsula where the 5 of us stayed in the self catering accommodation in Philham. On arrival we were immediately struck by the large size of the bedrooms and the overall cleanliness of the property. It was well appointed and the welcome breakfast pack was much appreciated. The owners, Mark and Lorraine, were very friendly and helpful. When we needed anything it was readily supplied. We used the BBQ twice and regularly made use of the outside seating area. It is in a very quiet village which was perfect for us. You do have to drive to pubs and restaurants but that was no problem. It is ideally located for some exhilarating coastal walks and Hartland Quay was undoubtedly our favourite place. The weather was kind to us and we had an excellent week in very comfortable accommodation. We would thoroughly recommend it.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review and summary of your holiday with us.
The description of our cottage is perfect and will really help others decide to come and stay.
So glad you had great holiday and we look forward to having you visit again in the future.
In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the summer and this fantastic weather.
All the best Lorraine and Mark
Lovely property, a real home away from home.
Philham Parlour was perfect for our stay. The owners were very welcoming and the breakfast pack was a lovely touch. Plenty of space (we were a party of 6 adults and 3 dogs) and very comfortable. Beautiful part of Devon but a car is essential to visit all the nearby beaches ... Bude and Sandymouth were our favourites. Highly recommended and we would definitely stay again. Thank you Mark and Lorraine.
Thank you for your wonderful review Marie, really appreciated and will certainly help others to decide to book with us in the future.
So glad you had a great holiday, we very much hope you will visit again in the future. All the very best, Mark and Lorraine.
Fantastic property, with fantastic owners and beautiful scenery!
My family and I had a one week holiday staying at The Parlour in Hartland Devon and found it to be a delightful property to stay in, plenty of space and very impressed with the en suites! Hosts are very helpful and live next door where they run a B&B so always on hand to help if need be. The location is extremely peaceful, ideal for unwinding and for exploring the North Devon and North Cornwall coastline. If you have teenagers, don't worry the wifi is very good and also plenty of games including a pool and football table and lots of DVDs and books to keep everyone entertained. Hartland village is approx 1 mile away with 2 shops which stock day to day goods and also a pub and fish and chip shop, a broader range of shops can be found at Bideford or Bude, both around 15 miles away. I would definitely stay here again if returning to area and would highly recommend it!!
