About Mark Brumham
We moved to this beautiful part of Devon in 2007 as part of our "New Life in the Country" plan. We found Great Philham House with its unconverted barn and could not turn down the opportunity and challenge of creating our own holiday cottage. Lorraine and I ensured that the barn was finished to a high standard, with character and luxury. We are so delighted with the result, that we stay in the cottage ourselves for an occasional holiday, even though its only next door! Having worked hard to provide the highest standard of accommodation, we would now like to welcome everyone else to come and enjoy this fantastic part of Devon and are wonderful holiday cottage.
Mark Brumham purchased this Barn in 2007
Why Mark Brumham chose Hartland
We are situated in the heart of the Hartland Peninsular and surrounded by Devon countryside. Its very difficult to accurately describe the area, as there are so many redeeming features, there is simply everything on offer here. Peaceful and tranquil surroundings, fantastic views, rugged coast line, hidden coves, sandy beaches to name but a few. You simply cant help but fall in love with the area, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, the local pubs are full of atmosphere and local ale! You can walk for miles, either in land or along the fabulous west country coastal path. The hamlet of Philham, whist off the main routes, has easy access to the town of Hartland and the main A39, with links to Cornwall.
What makes this Barn unique
The Parlour enjoys a large, private, enclosed, child friendly courtyard which is excellent for BBQ, eating out and soaking up the sunshine. There is also a large lawn / meadow with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It is ideal for children of all ages, as there are rope swings and large trampoline available to play on. Inside there is a large open plan living area, with fully fitted kitchen, leather suite, large dinning table and a warm cast iron wood burner. There is also a games area, with multi function tabletop football / pool table. The accommodation is well appointed, with large bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities, including a family bathroom, with Jack and Jill Doors and a fabulous roll top bath.

New Year break
Everything about this property was great. We were 3 couples who always meet for a few days at New Year having 3 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms was such a plus, the amount of space was excellent, it was well equipped cannot think of any negatives. The owner's were easy to contact and would not hesitate to recommend it.
Wow, thank you for your great review, really appreciated and it will certainly help others when deciding to book with us. Happy New Year to you all and we hope to see you again at some stage in the future. All the Best, Lorraine and Mark
Home from home!
An immaculately presented property in beautiful country setting. Extremely spacious and well laid out. Mark was on hand to offer help if needed or a cheery wave. We were a three generational group and we were all extremely pleased with the property. I would thoroughly recommend this property!
Lovely review Carol, so pleased you had a great stay and so glad you want to tell others about us.
Great to meet you all and we look forward to seeing you return at some stage in the future.
All the best, Mark and Lorraine
This is a beautiful conversion, all bedrooms are huge and with en-suite. We love the decor, ambience, home away from home feel and the location was perfect for discovering the sites around. Local pubs were great for food drinks and ‘scene’.
Thank you for your lovely review and feedback Pam, really appreciated and so glad you and the family had a great stay at the Parlour.
Thank you for telling others about our holiday cottage and we very much hope you will return again at some stage in the future. All the very best, Lorraine and Mark
Great Philham House
We chose Great Philham House as there was a downstairs bedroom with on-suite which for our son who is wheelchair bound was ideal. The parlour was clean and fresh with plenty of space for us all, 6 adults in all. The rural location and the private courtyard area was peaceful and relaxing.
The fridge was stocked enough for a cooked breakfast with some duck eggs too, which was a really nice touch. We would definitely stay again.
Thank you for your wonderful review and feedback. I'm really pleased you made the most of the level wheel chair access and downstairs bedroom and that as a result you all had a great holiday.
Lovely to meet you all and thank you for telling others about us.
We hope to see you again at some stage in the future.
All the best, Mark and Lorraine.
Great place to stay.
We have just got back from saying in the Parlour and I have to say I didn’t want to come home. When we arrived there was a welcome pack waiting which we were really grateful for of eggs, bacon, sausage, bread, milk, butter and tea and coffee on the side. Obviously the kettle went on first! The Parlour was clean and tidy and even though there were 8 of us with 3 dogs there was still plenty of space. Each bedroom had an en suite which made life easier, although the deep roll top bath was a big hit for all. The boys enjoyed going on the trampoline and loved looking at the chickens in the field opposite.
The Parlour is surrounded with fields and farming and it’s lovely to look out of the kitchen window and see the cows in the field or watch the sheep being herded as they go past the door. We live in the country but it’s still lovely to see it happening at your doorstep. Philham is only a couple of miles from the next village and only a few minutes drive to the beaches, there are many of them and the tide does come in very quickly, but they are beautiful and well kept. Hartland Quay is amazing to look out from.
Mark and Lorraine were there if you needed them and left you to enjoy your holiday, but always had a wave or a very quick ‘hello’ if they saw you.
Contact with Mark from the booking on line was easy and his replying was very quick.
Thanks Mark and Lorraine we had a lovely time staying at the Parlour and we will be back some time in the future to visit all the places that we ran out of time to see.
Hi Mandy, thank you do much for leaving such a fantastic review, its really appreciated and will certainly help others decide to book with us. So glad you had a great holiday and made the most of the area.
Would love to see you all again and in the meantime enjoy the rest of 2019.
All the best, Lorraine and Mark
Spacious, well equipped and decorated. Perfect for our largish family group. So good to have three en-suite bathrooms.
Plenty to do both in the house and a welcome added extra being the small field across the road for playing. Feeding the chickens was a big hit with the two year old and came as a great distraction.
Plenty to do in the area for the week , so overall a super holiday.
Thanks Mark and Lorraine
