200-year farmhouse with almond and olive groves. Rural yet near town
Sarah & Matt (Almond Hill House)
About Sarah & Matt (Almond Hill House)
The house has been enjoyed as a holiday house since 1994 – and was one of the first in Granada registered as a Vivienda Rural. We bought Almond Hill House in 2014 and modernised the house whilst retaining its rustic charm and improving its accessibility. We live in a neighboring property with our own private gardens, terraces and driveway, so your privacy is guaranteed.

5 star stay
We have just returned from a fabulous stay at Almond Hill, the house and grounds are fantastic, everything was spotless, everything we could have needed was provided and Matt and Sarah were very helpful with recommendations, info etc. We used the Personal Chef service from Chef Natalie which was superb and ventured down the goat track into origiva for Tapas and Dinner every day - lots of choice and incredible value - we struggled to spend our money lol
I would have no hesitation in recommending this house - the location is just beautiful - serene and private and away from the usual chatter (noisiest thing was the delightful sound of the goat bells) yet even my 69 year old father in law managed to cope with the daily walk into Orgiva:-)
I very much hope to return at some point !!
We'll be back!
We had a wonderful stay - the property was absolutely lovely, and Sarah and Matt could not have been more accommodating! Best villa pool we've ever used - we're already thinking about a return next year...
There were eleven of us using all six rooms. Seven adults and four teenagers.
We spent six days of the holiday cooking in and eating at the splendid long table. The facilities were very adequate and we were able to cook with ease.
The air conditioning was very much needed in every room at night, but one room hasn't got it and one night the boys had four fans in the room one night, but we were there perhaps at the hotest time.
There is lots of space, great for a big group. The pool is a good size and the views from there was beautiful.
We only tended to go out in the mornings, either to the shops or for a walk and perhaps a quick visit to another town like Lanjoran which is very nice. It's only about 30 minutes to drive to Motril, which is a big city and has everything you need including an amazing ice cream parlour and a square with tapas restuarants.
I would recommend renting this villa, it has lots of lemon, olive and fig trees, lots of parking space. The bedrooms are spread out so you don't hear anything from the other rooms.
They supplied towels for the pool, so no need to pack any. There was a nice supply of toiletries that people have left, so if you are buying when you get out there, see what there is there first. There were books and games, so no need to get bored. Internet is provided. The only thing I would say to pack is a hair dryer as there was only one. Sarah and Matt left us a bottle of olive oil pressed from their own olives and a selection of fresh vegetables from their garden.
Just pack your case, get yourself there and have a great relaxing, fun week away.
I would definitely book this place again.
The Almond House was perfect in every way. The house and it’s gardens were beautiful. The pool meticulously maintained. The layout of the home offered both great communal gathering areas and very private bedrooms, each with its own bathroom.
The location was quiet and secluded but also an easy drive to many fantastic sights. We did Granada and the Alhambra one day, Salobreña (a beach town on the Mediterranean) another day. Another day we explored Pampaneira (a village up the mountain). There were many other villages to explore, we just ran out of time.
There was great hiking all around the house. The property owners, Matt and Sarah, could not have been more gracious. So helpful in every way. Awaiting us upon arrival was a loaf of homemade bread and olive oil pressed from their own olive trees.
This area of Spain and the Almond House are a true treasure.
Thank you Matt and Sarah!
Thank you so much for your feedback – we are thrilled you had such a great stay and made the most of visiting this beautiful part of Spain. We would love to welcome you back one day.
This was exactly what we had been looking for in a holiday. The house is comfortable and well-equipped, with really pretty gardens and pool.
The surrounding countryside is stunning, and the small local villages all worth a visit. Alhambra is close, or if you want a day by the sea this is also possible within a short drive.
Excellent hosts, there only when you need them, but charming all the same.
Highly recommended for any type of group, small or large, friends or families.
Hi Anita - thank you so much for your lovely review, we are delighted you all had a good time. W'd love to welcome you back again one day to the beautiful Alpujarra. Best wishes, AHH
A really special place
My girlfriends and I booked this lovely farmhouse for a short weekend stay at the end of February.
Upon arrival we were met by Sarah and Matt the extremely helpful owners who gave us many suggestions, prior to arriving of how we could spend our weekend. They were very welcoming and made us feel instantly at home. The house is decorated so beautifully with loads of really interesting pieces everywhere and the kitchen was perfectly equipped. We had everything we needed for making our breakfasts each morning. (With some fresh oranges from The orchard for orange juice)
Matt’s knowledge of the best tapas bars to visit in Granada made for a wonderful day of wandering the streets of Granada after our visit to the Alhambra. Their local restaurant recommendation was also a hit later on that evening.
On our last day, again on the owners recommendation, we walked through the white villages - about half an hours drive away. These are really beautiful villages - so high up in the mountains and the lunch there was wonderful.
We kept ourselves busy but any downtime was spent on the lovely veranda overlooking the pool (we had 22 degrees in February) drinking in the mountain view or at night sitting in the cosy sitting room with the roaring stove keeping us warm.
I would highly recommend this wonder authentic spanish farmhouse for any type of stay. I hope to return again one day with my family. There is so much to visit nearby and the peace and tranquility of the farmhouse would be always wonderful to return to.
Five stars from me.
* Enjoy NATURE all around – the tinkling of goat herds that sometimes pass the top of the land, and the wide variety of bird-life
* ÓRGIVA is the heart of La Alpujarra. It's a bustling working town which has its own lively Thursday market.
* Nearby LANJARÓN is famous for its thermal spas and there's a Moorish castle to explore and interesting honey and water museums as well as great bars and restaurants
* Traditional Andalucia WHITE VILLAGES of Pampineira, Bubión and Capileira are a 20-minute drive. Enjoy Pampineira's artisan chocolate factory, the villages' higgledy-piggledy alleyways which date back to before the Moors.
* GRANADA and THE ALHAMBRA (50-minute drive) is a great place to get lost in the old Arabic quarter and marvel at the architecture, stumble across small squares with local bars.
* Enjoy a SEAFOOD LUNCH ON THE BEACH year-round at Salobreña or La Herradura – a 35-45 minute drive.
