About alice leckie

I co own the property with my partner. We live in Edinburgh a 30 minute drive away, so we are available to assist if there is an emergency.

We are both retired

alice leckie purchased this chalet in 2013

Why alice leckie chose Dunbar

The property has been in the family for 16 years. My partner inherited it in 2013.

We are a 30 minute drive away but as soon as we reach Belhaven we are in another world where we can unwind.

We love the view standing at our window of The "Big Sky" and the sea, which changes as the tide comes in and out.

We are never bored as there are so many places to visit in the area.

What makes this chalet unique

We love walking on the beach outside our door, walking the east lothian sections of the John Muir Way, visiting quaint villages inland, and the lovely seaside towns of North Berwick, Gullane and Dunbar, finding new coffee shops on our travels and keeping a list, which we are happy to share with our guests.

When we are feeling energetic, we walk up Berwick Law or Trapain Law where we have a lovely view of the coast.

My partner has recently discovered micro-lighting near the Museum of Flight at East Fortune and has enjoyed seeing the coast from the air.

Perfectly located. Awesome views. Everything one needs for a wonderful stay.

  • 5 of 5

Given I travelled when the Beast from the East descended on the UK for the second time, I still had the most wonderful experience at this perfectly located chalet. The views are superb. The area was quiet but not so much that one felt isolated. Loved everything about the chalet, which provided everything possible for a perfect stay. Thank you.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. It is reassuring to know that even when The Beast from the East mark 2 strikes, the beautiful scenery still manages to impress. Thank you also for your feedback on our chalet. We aim to make it a " home from home" and try to ensure we provide everything to make our guests comfortable.

Beautiful chalet

  • 5 of 5

The chalet was lovely and clean and well equipped. Lots to do in the surrounding area and the beach is just gorgeous. We couldn't have wished for better weather. Truly a little piece of heaven! x

Owner's Response: Thank you so much. The chalet is in an ideal location to get away from it all but also near enough to enjoy the benefits of the big city. I am so glad you had good weather but I find even when the weather isn't so good it can still be invigorating walking along the long stretch of sand at Belhaven Bay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review. We pride ourselves on providing good value for money in a competitive market Our garden is coming into its own at this time of year and creates a private and sheltered space to relax and enjoy the sun around the chalet. With the swimming pool, family fun park and wakeboarding on our doorstep, plus easy access to the city of Edinburgh, there is plenty to keep lively children entertained

Location

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The front of the chalet faces Belhaven Bay. It is a wide sandy beach which is popular with surfers and walkers. The appearance of the beach constantly changes with the tide. When the tide is in, the beach is almost completely covered by water and the river leading to the sea becomes a lake.

There is also a beach in Dunbar which is a 20 minute walk or short drive away. The beautiful beaches of Tyningham, Seacliffe, North Berwick, Dirleton and Gullane are a 30-45 minute drive away.

Travel:

Edinburgh airport is a 45 minute drive. There is a railway station in Dunbar which is on the main London to Edinburgh line. There is a bus service to Edinburgh and the bus stop is only a 5 minute walk away but as the bus takes 70 minutes to Edinburgh it is not recommended.

A car is recommended to be able to access the many sights in East Lothian but those who were keen walkers or cyclists could manage without a car at a push.

Distances:

Dunbar is a 15 minute walk away. The market town of Haddington is a 15 minute drive away. Tantallon Castle is a 15 minute drive and dirleton castle is a 30 minute drive. The museum of flight at east Fortune is a 20 minute drive away. The sea bird centre at North Berwick is a 20 minute drive away. The East Lothian section of the John Muir Way stretches from Prestonpans along the coast to Dunbar and is a favourite with walkers

Further Details:

Dunbar has several banks, a post office, cafes, pubs, restaurants, a swimming pool which has a wave machine and flumes, harbour and beach. A large Asda is on the outskirts of town.

Dunbar is the home of John Muir and the house of his birth is now a museum in the high street. Entry is free.

The family fun park near West Barns is a 15 minute walk from the property along the John Muir way, or a 2 minute drive. Its a great place for children with an adventure park, a train, an outdoor area with farm animals and a cafe.

There is also a wake boarding school with a café, a 5 minute drive away.
