About alice leckie
I co own the property with my partner. We live in Edinburgh a 30 minute drive away, so we are available to assist if there is an emergency. We are both retired
alice leckie purchased this Chalet in 2013
Why alice leckie chose Dunbar
The property has been in the family for 16 years. My partner inherited it in 2013. We are a 30 minute drive away but as soon as we reach Belhaven we are in another world where we can unwind. We love the view standing at our window of The "Big Sky" and the sea, which changes as the tide comes in and out. We are never bored as there are so many places to visit in the area.
What makes this Chalet unique
We love walking on the beach outside our door, walking the east lothian sections of the John Muir Way, visiting quaint villages inland, and the lovely seaside towns of North Berwick, Gullane and Dunbar, finding new coffee shops on our travels and keeping a list, which we are happy to share with our guests. When we are feeling energetic, we walk up Berwick Law or Trapain Law where we have a lovely view of the coast. My partner has recently discovered micro-lighting near the Museum of Flight at East Fortune and has enjoyed seeing the coast from the air.

Great Little Chalet
We stayed 7 nights in the chalet and enjoyed ourselves immensely. It is directly across the street from a small park where you can also park your car. The beach is in sight and easy to get to. While I would recommend a car in order to travel farther out, we walked into town and around the area most of the time. There are a number of good restaurants in Dunbar and a nice pub within about a 5 - 10 minute walk. A very nice golf club is just up the road where the restaurant is also open to the public.
If you enjoy walking, bird watching and the outdoors, you will enjoy this chalet. The chalet had everything we needed and there is an ASDA supermarket a short drive away where you can get any food or other items you might need. Although we did not use them, there are bikes (2) in the shed for your use if you like.
Alice was very accommodating allowing us to stay an extra night on short notice. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay. If we are in the Dunbar area again we would try to book this chalet again.
Thank you very much for your review.
It is always nice to receive an excellent review from visitors to our country as it confirms that we have so much to offer to people from abroad who enjoy the outdoors.
There is also the added bonus of accessibilty to the culture and history of the city of Edinburgh, only 22 minutes away by train and 45 minutes by car.
Lovely locations and excellent value for money
The chalet was clean and had everything you need. Ideal location for coastal walks.
Thank you so much for your review
The chalet is in an ideal location for walks by the sea,
with so many beautiful beaches in East Lothian.
There is also St. Abbs and Coldingham Bay within easy reach
Lovely had everything needed
Beautiful area with plenty of walks and stunning views, very relaxing , easy access to Edinburgh.
Relaxed break with stunning views
Had the most relaxing holiday. Chalet had everything needed. Belhaven beach is stunning. Will be back.
Thank you for your review. We are very fortunate to have so many people keen to rebook and look forward to seeing you again next year.
The front of the chalet faces Belhaven Bay. It is a wide sandy beach which is popular with surfers and walkers. The appearance of the beach constantly changes with the tide. When the tide is in, the beach is almost completely covered by water and the river leading to the sea becomes a lake.
There is also a beach in Dunbar which is a 20 minute walk or short drive away. The beautiful beaches of Tyningham, Seacliffe, North Berwick, Dirleton and Gullane are a 30-45 minute drive away.
Edinburgh airport is a 45 minute drive. There is a railway station in Dunbar which is on the main London to Edinburgh line. There is a bus service to Edinburgh and the bus stop is only a 5 minute walk away but as the bus takes 70 minutes to Edinburgh it is not recommended.
A car is recommended to be able to access the many sights in East Lothian but those who were keen walkers or cyclists could manage without a car at a push.
Dunbar is a 15 minute walk away. The market town of Haddington is a 15 minute drive away. Tantallon Castle is a 15 minute drive and dirleton castle is a 30 minute drive. The museum of flight at east Fortune is a 20 minute drive away. The sea bird centre at North Berwick is a 20 minute drive away. The East Lothian section of the John Muir Way stretches from Prestonpans along the coast to Dunbar and is a favourite with walkers
Dunbar has several banks, a post office, cafes, pubs, restaurants, a swimming pool which has a wave machine and flumes, harbour and beach. A large Asda is on the outskirts of town.
Dunbar is the home of John Muir and the house of his birth is now a museum in the high street. Entry is free.
The family fun park near West Barns is a 15 minute walk from the property along the John Muir way, or a 2 minute drive. Its a great place for children with an adventure park, a train, an outdoor area with farm animals and a cafe.
There is also a wake boarding school with a café, a 5 minute drive away.
