Named after a local bridge on the ascent to the Avon Dam Shipley Lodge is a ground floor apartment with access to its own private outdoor area, suitable for dogs, with a picnic table and small barbecue. The apartment is bright and modern with a fully equipped kitchen and a combined washer drier located in the bathroom.

An old hunting lodge located on the edge of the moor with beautiful views and access to walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, river swimming only thirty minutes to the coast. Pinewood Lodge was one of the buildings which made up the Didworthy Sanatorium, located here because of the wonderful clean air and wonderful scenic views. A contemporary self contained two bedroom apartment set in the heart of Dartmoor National Park. The lodge has been refurbished to a very high standard and will provide tranquility and comfort within a beautiful setting. You truly can walk from the door to the moor, and find some wonderful locations.

Both Jez and Serena work for national charities supporting families and vulnerable young people, whilst their son is studying hard at school (we hope)...

We fell in love with Pinewood Lodge as we drove through the narrow tree covered lanes and arrived at Pinewood Lodge nestled between the hills with amazing views. We had been looking for a place where you could walk straight form your door 'to have arrived at your destination' and you can walk straight out onto the moor.
What makes this Apartment unique
Pinewood Lodge is situated in a magical tranquil location, surrounded by countryside and views. Originally utilized by the victorians as a health sanatorium for its fresh clean air, not much has changed today. We have our own private well and water supply from the granite rocks below, a beautiful bluebell wood and some lovely pigs and chickens. If you are dog owner you are welcome to bring well behaved dogs and to stay in Shipley Lodge the ground floor apartment. Although secluded you are only a fifteen minute drive from a range of market towns.

Very modern and obviously newly refurbished. TV sound was very muffled due to echoes through the whole apartment. Agree with previous reviewers that a sound bar or better quality TV would help. Internet was dial-up speed from the late 90’s ( not the owners fault, but do beware as phone signal is also weak). Not a big issue though. Good communication from the owner and very helpful. Loved our time here.
Lovely apartment in a spectacular setting!
We really enjoyed a super week staying at this comfortable apartment which is set in the most glorious part of Devon. The last bit of the drive to the Lodge is very slow due to the narrow and windy road but gives you time to appreciate the beauty of the gorgeous surroundings that resemble a film set with the flowing river and fantastic flora!
Nothing was too much trouble for our delightful hosts who quickly responded to any query plus gave good tips about the local area. The stylish apartment had everything we needed and the bathroom had a great shower! If I had one little suggestion it would be to add a sound bar to the TV as it can be difficult to hear the TV clearly in such a large room and we didn't want to keep turning the volume up! But apart from that Shipley Lodge is a wonderful place to stay and enjoy the delights of Devon and I'm sure we'll be back!

Serena & hubby where super friendly & very accommodating. We had lovely pork from their farm waiting for us in the fridge. They arranged for our two kids to bottle feed the lambs which they loved.

Perfect location to explore Dartmoor
Amazing location, lovely hosts and great apartment
Such a wonderful few days walking on Dartmoor, straight from the door! We were lucky to have warm, dry weather, which i know is not always the case. The apartment is well laid out and worked well for four of us with two dogs (luckily not wet ones!) The outside area is a great bonus and catches the afternoon sun and our boy enjoyed some of the games. The delightful hosts are very kind and friendly, and also provided some delicious eggs from their hens. The missing star on the rating was only because the beds (especially single) were not the most comfy and the paintwork was a little in need of tlc in places, but we loved it all the same and I would return tomorrow if I could.....

I stayed here in early November 2016, and used it as a base for a long walking weekend. Let me assure you this is no bunk house or low end accommodation, the property oozes quality and comfort; if you stay here you will want for nothing. The only thing you will not 'want' is to return home.
I have stayed in numerous accommodation up and down the country and this is 'top notch' - don't think any more about it, just book it! You will not be disappointed.
The owner Serena is a very nice person, although living in close proximity she is not an 'interfering owner' but is on hand should you need anything. The only time I saw her was when I popped by to say good bye.
Covering 368 square miles, Dartmoor National Park is dominated by the cool wide-open spaces of the high moors made famous in the works of Emily Brontë. With miles of paths, tracks, 160 rocky outcrops or tors and open moorland for exploring on foot, bike or horseback, Dartmoor is a suitable place to try out thrilling activities such as climbing, caving and geocaching.
Across the moors, travellers will find small workshops and artist studios or galleries showcasing original artwork such as pottery, sculpture, leatherwork and textiles, while small farms sell fresh veggies, honey, breads, beef, lamb, cheeses and other products in lively town centres. Boasting around 200 granite tors of all shapes and sizes, and a rich collection of bronze-age antiquities, history enthusiasts may discover a wealth of stone rows and circles, burial chambers and cairns, alongside the remains of roundhouses. In Bellever Forest, travellers may enjoy relaxing picnics by the East Dart River, while grazing Dartmoor ponies may be spotted in the area. After a day of exploration, tourists may tempt their taste buds with local dishes including the Dartmoor beef and local ale pies.
Special interest holidays:
Access to horse riding, mountain biking, climbing, canoeing, fishing and walking are all easily accessible and available.
Access to the beautiful South Hams coastline are within thirty minutes drive and include beaches such as Mothercombe, Bigbury-on-Sea, Salcombe and Blackpool Sands.
Exeter airport is a forty minute drive, Totnes station (mainline from London) is fifteen minutes and Plymouth station is twenty five minutes drive. Car hire is available from Totnes station and taxi's are also available.
Buckfastleigh, Totnes and Ivybridge are all approximately fifteen minutes drive and all provide food shopping and restaurants. Plymouth is a thirty minute drive and a major costal town and Exeter is a forty minute drive and a thriving cathedral city.
There are leisure centres in Ivybridge and Totnes with swimming pools, alongside banks, markets (Totnes Friday). South Brent is the nearest village to Didworthy with cash machines and two local village stores, a butcher, two pubs and a tea shop. It is approximately a twenty five minute walk from Pinewood Lodge.

Booking Notes: Please check availability and pricing on the online calendar and a £100 deposit will need to have been made to secure the booking and balance is due eight weeks before the start of the holiday, or in full depending on timescales. Changeover Day: The changeover day within peak season is a Friday or Saturday, but other days can be negotiated dependent on availability. Notes on prices: Get in touch for a late deal or short break availability. Please note that the owners will be allocating a proportion of the income gained from the holiday lets to allow low income families to have a holiday.
