About Helen Whiting
I live in the UK with my partner and two children, all of us have busy lives with work and school and holiday times and we love to spend time out in Cornwall.
Helen Whiting purchased this House in 2014
Why Helen Whiting chose Bodmin
I fell in love with the house from the first moment that I saw it, the beauty of the location and ease of getting there without all the hassle of winding roads. For me the house is a place I like to come to relax and spend time with family and friends, and to be able to explore all that Cornwall has to offer. There is so much more to the area than just the beach, and I have found so many stunning places right on my doorstep. The house has the benefit of being close enough to the main A30 route without the noise and hustle and bustle. Bodmin is a short drive away and has all the expected local amenities from supermarkets of which (Sainsburys, Tesco and Asda will deliver). There is also a sports centre, and a minor injuries unit at the local hospital.
What makes this House unique
The property is reached down a private lane, and also has access into Cardinham Woods directly from the grounds of the property. You could not be better placed to enjoy the surrounding area, its sights, scenery, activities and history in the relaxing atmosphere of the house. It is situated close to the main road links to Plymouth and further down into Cornwall, there is a video of the property on the lower margate.com site which shows the house and Cardinham woods.

Perfect for Christmas
We had a perfect week at Lower Margate. The property is amazing, it is secluded but well within reach of Bodmin and right on the edge of Cardinham Woods. This was great for walking the dogs and we would definitely recommend The Woods Cafe for lunch or just a cup of tea. The beach is within approx 30 mins drive. The house is very well supplied and has plenty of room to relax both inside and out. The garden has plenty of space with lots of areas to sit or play games (not that we sat outside as it was December!) The house is beautiful both inside and out and whether you want a quiet break or a time of full on outdoors activity Lower Margate is the place for you.
Dear Emma. I am so glad that Lower Margate was exactly what you wanted it to be.
My aim is to make the house your home away from home for the duration of your stay.
Beautiful house, beautiful location, so relaxing.
All the family had a lovely time, felt at home straight away, dogs loved the woods.everywhere very accessible from this location. Would love to use this house again
Beautiful house and gardens. So well equipped, everything you need for a perfect week
What a welcome, wine, cake, bread, fruit and treats for the dogs. Thank you x
Perfect weather to lounge in the gardens, bbq in the evenings. Plenty of room for 6 adults and 2 border collies to enjoy badminton, boules, bat and ball. The dogs enjoyed exploring the gardens and further out into the woods.
Beautiful House, Fantastic Location
Beautiful house in stunning surroundings. We enjoyed the large garden and wildlife (rabbits, pheasants, birds, a stoat, amongst others) and walks in Cardinham Woods next door.
Really accessible location to most places in Cornwall. Would recommend and we'll certainly be back.
The owner (Helen) could not have been more helpful when we had a problem with the electricity and cooker - she had someone at the property within 30 minutes of my call, despite it being Easter Saturday and her living >100 miles away. She stayed in touch via email and had a temporary cooker delivered before the one in the property was fixed.
We were here for about ten days and as soon as you walk in, you know you'll be very happy. The house is gorgeous, homely, stylish and clean and we made ourselves right at home. The kitchen is well stocked with all the bits and bobs you need to cook. The house is pretty warm too - must be those thick granite walls. For an October stay, it was ideal.
The woods nearby had great walks for us and the dog and we explored a lot of the area and travelled further afield.
We would certainly consider coming back here again as we loved the house and the ambiance.
Thank you for your kind words. I’m so glad that you felt Lower Margate felt like a home from home,
I look forward to welcoming you back in near future.
Lovely house and setting in a convenient location
The house was lovely and well-equipped, except for a couple of niggles such as slow draining of the upstairs sink. There are extensive lawns for playing on, and several seating areas to suit your preference for sun or shade. The location is beautiful, with direct access to Cardinham Woods, a short walk to the Bodmin and Wenford heritage railway, and a short drive to Lanhydrock. Whilst it feels secluded, main roads are close by so you can quickly get to a variety of destinations in both north and south Cornwall.
Special interest holidays:
The house is in the perfect location if you like cycling with access to Cardinham Woods, and the cycling trails at Lanhydrock. You can hire a bike at either if you aren't able to bring your own. Bodmin Moor is also nearby, as is access to the Camel trail cycle way in Bodmin.
If country homes and castles are more your thing then Lanhydrock, one of the prettiest National Trust houses, Anthonys House (used in the filming of Alice in Wonderland), and Restmoral Castle, are within easy reach. Also not too far away are Launceston Castle, Tintagel and Boscastle.
If your hobby is sewing and quilting, then Cowslip Quilts in Launceston offer courses after which you and your group could come back to the house and continue with plenty of room in the conservatory to set up your sewing machines.
Among the many walks available are the Doc Martin, Blisland and Delank Quarry, Minions, Cardinham.
Bodmin Parkway station 1.8 miles away which also offers travel options further down into Cornwall.
The location of the house offers you opportunities to visit both north and south coast lines, opening up many choices of excellent beaches.
On the north coast Polzeath beach is 17 miles away and takes about 45 minutes to drive too.
Padstow is 21 miles away.
On the south coast, Fowey is just over 11 miles and would take less than half an hour, and the beautiful Charles Town is just under 12 miles away and takes just half an hour.
A car is very useful (but not essential if you have brought your bicycle).
