Castello is a small hamlet perched on a hillside commanding wonderful views over the Serchio valley. The house overlooks hills, terraced vineyards, olive groves and wooded slopes whilst to the northwest are the high peaks of the Apuan range. Access to Castello is by the narrow, winding road from Valdattovo, a distance of 2kms away. It is off the tourist track in this relatively undiscovered area of Tuscany, but is an excellent base from which to explore all that Tuscany has to offer. The house has been carefully restored over recent years retaining many of the original 18th century features. It is approached by the front stairway to a large balcony from which the entrance to the house leads to an impressive sala, a very spacious and beautifully proportioned room with high beamed ceilings. Eating al fresco is a must from the lovely balcony where you can soak up the magnificent views across the Tuscan countryside.
The house faces the southwest which means that both the private courtyard to the rear of the house and balcony enjoy all day sunshine. Life takes on a different and slower pace at Castello, providing you with the time and space to reconnect with family and the outdoors. Right outside the front door are trails for biking, hiking, or just taking a leisurely walk along the mule paths which were the once the only way to access Castello. Whilst there are no shops or bars in the hamlet of Castello, there is great local food shopping within the towns of Valdottavo and Borgo a Mozzano. The shopping ranges from freshly butchered meat, baked goods, fresh pasta, pizza, and of course local wines.
