After buying the property, we personally over-viewed the restoration of this typical stone house (locally called "pajara") composed of two connected blocks, one of which is circular in shape. Originally built to store agricultural tools and occasionally supply a roof to olive pickers in the autumn months, it is now a fully equipped villa with a rural character. The outside space is ideally organized to enjoy the long sunny days and cool summer evenings by the pool and under the large canopy or the shade of the olive trees. A small outdoor cooker is available as well as a fixed barbecue. There is an outdoor shower next to the pool (10m x 5m). The house has a Wi-Fi connection. Especially during the summer months, visitors can enjoy numerous religious and cultural events. Food festivals are organized almost daily by the surrounding villages where a variety of local delicacies and wines can be tasted. Numerous beautiful sandy and rock beaches are reachable within a short drive, the closest being 8min away.

About Emanuela Pace
My name is Emanuela and together with my husband and children would like to welcome all our guests to our peaceful retreat! My husband and I are originally from this area but we have been living abroad, in different countries, for over twenty years. We bought this property in 2008 and had the stone house completely refurbished because we wanted to give some tangible roots to our children. We wanted them to have a sense of belonging since they were born abroad and always leaved far away from their extended family. I am happy to say that this goal has been achieved! We are new members of Owners Direct but we have always rented our house in the past and all our guests have always been very satisfied and some of them have also come back.
Emanuela Pace purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Emanuela Pace chose Sannicola
Our house is quite unique in shape and it is immersed in the typical Salento countryside: intense red soil, century old olive trees and deep scent from bushes of lavender, rosemary and sage. It is a very quiet place and the only noise during the day is the sound of the cicadas, but the nearest village with shops, cafés and good trattorias is just over a kilometer away. The swimming pool provides a welcomed sense of relief from the heat, but many different beaches are within a short drive and they are definitely worth exploring. It is also very interesting to visit the old towns of Gallipoli and Otranto, just to name a couple of unique places within a short drive distance, and it is highly recommended to explore the historic centre of Lecce with its many baroque churches and buildings.
What makes this Villa unique
Our house also offers the possibility to experience the delicious local cuisine. There is an abundance of restaurants or trattorias and the price for eating good quality meals is extremely reasonable. For the guests who like to cook there is a vegetable garden just a few steps away from the house and vegetables can be just picked and prepared. The house comes complete with two "guardian angels", Livio and Carmela. They will be welcoming the guests and can be contacted at any moment for information or assistance. Carmela is also an excellent cook and she is willing to prepare local delicacies at guests' request. This can be arranged in person with her on arrival. They do not speak English, but Carmela speaks German. We can always be reached by phone and will try to help as much as possib

Beautiful Oasis of Calm
Stayed for summer holiday with two adults and two kids (8 and 10). First thing to say is that the photos don't do this villa justice. The villa itself is really well appointed internally and much more spacious than it might appear in photos. Large lounge area (air-con), adjoining open plan kitchen, bedroom with two single beds (air-con), large double room (air-con) with en-suite, and separate shower and wash room are all on ground floor. Upstairs (open to the lounge area) is a lovely space with a double futon type double bed which would be great for older kids.
But its the outside space that really makes this property. The outside seating area is fantastic - we pretty lived outside for the whole holiday! The gardens are large and really well maintained, and the adjacent olive grove / veg garden is an added bonus. The pool is also super and a good size, and the little diving board is a bonus.
The property is very private - no other buildings are visible in the vicinity. As with other reviews, we founf the housekeepers great - we don't speak Italian, and they don't speak much English, but we communicated just fine (Their family's restaurant is also one of the best in the area!) Pre holiday arrangements were all straightforward.
Great family holiday base, five stars from us.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write your beautiful review. It means a lot to us! We hope to welcome you and your family again in the future!
my husband and I have just returned from a 2 week break at this fantastic property. we had an amazing time, the property was spotless and extremely well kept, would recommend to anyone looking to unwind in the sun!
So wonderful to know you had a great time!
Thank you for your kind words. All the best, Emanuela
Perfect house. Warm welcome
We had a perfect week with our two children.
The house is cool and spacious (much more spacious than the impression given in the photos). The building has been very tastefully restored and the garden was immaculately kept. It felt remote and private but it's only a short drive to the shops if you need to get anything.
We raided the veg patch (delicious aubergines) and enjoyed the warm breeze.
Livio (the gardener) and his wife Carmela were very welcoming and were on hand to answer any questions about the property and surrounding area. Go try their sons' restaurant a ten minute drive away. We went twice. Delicious.
We hope to return one day.
It is a great pleasure for us to hear that you had a good time. Thank you for choosing our house for your holiday.
A wonderful place to relax
I have just returned from a week's stay in the wonderful house with my husband and 3 children.
The garden and pool are lovely and beautifully kept, with the bonus of a vegetable patch where we picked fresh rocket and herbs. We only wished it was later in the season so we could enjoy the tomatoes and aubergines. The outdoor dining area is great as is the shaded living area which means you can escape the sun in the middle of the day. The house is very well equipped and the pictures of the inside do not do it justice.
Everything we needed was there with the added touch if some fruit, biscuits, wine and water to greet us. Emanuela responded immediately when we needed to ask for her help.
One of the nicest places we have stayed - thank you.
Thank you for your very positive feedback.
We are delighted you and your family had a pleasant week.
It makes us very happy when our guests enjoy being at our house!
Peace in Puglia
Thanks Emmanuela for letting us use your lovely house to restore our batteries.
We were looking for a peaceful and quiet two weeks holiday with our three young boys and found the perfect place. The house and grounds are very private, comfortable and well equipped and the pool and shaded poolside area great. Our children practically lived in the pool. The garden is beautiful with vegetables and herbs to use for meals and a great barbecue area for grills over olive wood. The owner, Emmanuela, and the local housekeepers, Livio and Carmela, were very helpful throughout. When we did manage to drag our boys out of the pool, we enjoyed Gallipoli, especially the fish market, and trips to Otranto and Lecce. The wood fired pizzas at Ragno's in Sannicola were a big hit and we had a very memorable lunch under the trees in the beach-side restaurant in small and pretty Porta Badisco south of Otranto. We would have liked to explore the area north of Gallipoli a bit more but we couldn't bring ourselves to leave the house again!
What a wonderfull house in a beautiful and enormous garden. We have spent a lovely week in Sannicola and explored Puglia. The house has everything you need and looks even better in real. Outside and inside very tasteful decorated, perfect beds, well equiped kitchen and lots more. The swimmingpool is fantastic! The owners and the houselkeepers Carmela and Livio did everything to make this week perfect! Carmela is also a great cook and is most happy to cook her traditional Italian meals. We will return!
