About Mark Richardson
Hello. We are a young family that built our own bespoke home a few years ago. We are very happy to now offer accommodation for holidaymakers from around the world. Only having one property, we aim and we hope we achieve a very high level of service to our guests. We have been open since 2009 and now have over 110 x 5 Star Trip Advisor reviews. We have won TripAdvisor’s "Top Vacation Rental in the St Andrews Area" three times. And we have had guests come back up to seven times in the last 4 years, so i assume we are doing something right!
Mark Richardson purchased this House in 2000
Why Mark Richardson chose Cupar
The location of Bag End is idyllic. It is in the heart of the beautiful Kingdom of Fife surrounded by rolling countryside, lovely towns and villages and has access to all that this historic and affluent area has to offer. We are quietly tucked away but we are within striking distance of all of fife and cities such as Edinburgh which is only and hour away by either car or train. I (Mark) am originally from beautiful "Bronte" country in Yorkshire but i have lived in Fife now for nearly 20 years and love it very much. My wife Joyce is a Scottish lass from Sterling and our daughter Ruby is Scottish through and through with a hint of Yorkshire thrown in!
What makes this House unique
As Bag End was built by Mark it is distinctly bespoke in its design. It has very individual rooms; heated porcelain floors, solid Cherry staircase and all decorated and finished off with a selection of 20th century items from our own private collection. The accommodation is quirky, beautiful and very homely from the moment you walk in the door. We hope to see you soon. Mark & Joyce & Ruby

We had a lovely stay in Bag End Cottage, very homely and relaxing. It’s location is ideal as only a short car drive away from Cupar, St. Andrews, Dundee and Edinburgh. Beautiful coast line to explore. We had a fabulous holiday and would recommend this property
Our stay was wonderful. Great house, great location, great advice from our property manager. Definitely would stay here again!
Thank you very much indeed. Thats just what we allways want to hear, so thank you for your time and kind words. We hope to see you again sometime. Regards
Fantastic stay and a beautiful house
My friend and I booked Mark’s property for three night to start off the summer holidays, the house was beautiful, with everything we could possibly need and more! We had 5 kids with us and they had a ball exploring the house and it’s many toys as well as the beautiful outdoor area with fantastic climbing frame and park. Mark was a fantastic and couldn’t do enough to make us all feel at home, and the children loved playing with his daughter and of course little Charlie the dog. We would 100% recommended this property, as well as being beautiful it’s sits within a stunning little village that was safe for the children to bike about and explore. We wanted to stay longer! Thank you to Mark and his lovely family.
Super cozy, fully-equipped cottage and very friend
A perfect place to stay when visiting the Scottish East with a car. The cottage is located in a small rural village set in a beautiful landscape. It is super cozy (one bedroom even has a window in the roof through which you can watch the stars while lying in bed, provided the weather is cooperative). It is equipped with really everything you could possibly need and the host gave us a very warm welcome. Coastal towns such as St. Andrews or Anstruther (from where you can visit the Isle of May) are only a 20 min drive away and you can also get to Edinburgh or Rosslyn Chapel in little more than an hour. We certainly hope to come (there and) back again.
Fabulous cottage in stunning village
Superb second visit to Bag End. The location is excellent and peaceful. Mark has thought of everything meaning the cottage is so well equipped for both adults and children. Nothing is too much trouble and everything is set up on arrival. Bag End is superbly finished and feels very spacious. We loved our stay and will be back again!
Lovely house, great location
We had a great time at Mark’s house. It’s a great place with everything you’d need. Lovely location. Great to have the outside space.
Thank you very much for the kind words. We are always thrilled when people have a great time and it makes all the hard work we do worthwhile. Mark
Bag is located in the heart of Fife and is in a rural location so a car is necessary to get the best out of your visit to the beautiful Kingdom of Fife.

There are then 100s of historical, sporting, religious, wildlife, architectural and royal places to visit within an hour of Bag End as Fife was and remains a very historic and affluent area of Scotland.
Just a short walk from Bag End is the Kingarroch Inn which has been totally rebuilt following a major fire in 2014. This offers very good restaurant food and uses much of the locally produced food that Fife is famous for.
In general, Fife abounds with exceptional food from, fruit, venison, wines, cheeses, beef, etc. Due to this we have a wide selection of very good eating places and restaurants to suit all budgets. There is a beautiful village 1 mile from Bag End with two very good pubs, a well stocked Spar, two cafes and a superb butcher. Cupar has two supermarkets and many of the usual high street shops.
St Andrews is a delight as it is full of bespoke individual shops offering a wide variety of high quality food and other goods. As it is the home of Golf, an ancient monastic city and home to the oldest university in Scotland, it is also a very welcoming and interesting place to visit and live.
Overall Fife has 100s of interesting places to visit due to its historic part in Scotland’s past, its position as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Scotland and its vibrant and mixed population which give it a genuinely interesting spark.
