Chris and Liz Jones
About Chris and Liz Jones
We live near Bath in England, have two kids, ran a Telecom business for 25 years (now sold), met in 1980 and have finally realized our dream of a fabulous coastal holiday home to enjoy in Woolacombe England (ref E17263) and a Villa in Crete (ref GR4662).
Chris and Liz Jones purchased this Villa in 2014
Why Chris and Liz Jones chose Kournas
Our Villa is a few minutes walk from the traditional Crete village of Kournas, just 8 minutes drive from an amazing 7km stretch of sandy beach and enjoys wonderful views of the ocean and mountains. Ease of airport access from Chania (45mins) and Heraklion (90mins) was an important factor.
What makes this Villa unique
Amazing views of the ocean and mountains from all the rooms and especially from the pool (Pool Heating Installed Sept 17). Nestled into the hillside near Kournas the villa enjoys a cooling breeze. The agricultural village of Kournas produces sounds of sheep herding, bells clanking on goat's collars, tractors and distant church bells.....we love these sounds! Modern, clean design, open plan living, ample storage, and a newly installed 15mB speed unlimited broadband. There are three double bedrooms, one can be configured with two single beds on request.

This villa was really lovely. The views were amazing and the quality of all the fixtures & fittings were excellent.
The details provided of the villa were spot on & the owners were very easy to deal with.
The only negative for us was the villa was a little too remote. Whilst we could walk to the 3 tavernas in Kournas they were pretty quiet.
'More than it says on the tin'
For anyone who is looking at the pictures of this Villa right now with a view to whether they should book it at a point in the future, then be aware!!
If you love the Greek way of life and enjoy quality Villas in rural positions with spectacular views, but somewhere where you can walk into the village for freshly baked bread in the morning or Tsatsiki and a Mythos beer in the Taverna in the evening, then stop looking and get booking.
My wife and I have just spent a week in the Villa in early June and travelled with great expectation having seen the photos and read the reviews. Neither the photos nor the reviews can do this Villa justice. What Chris has created is a high quality villa in a prime position and he has done it in a way that certainly matched our expectations and gave us one of the best holidays of our lives, although the weather helped so not sure if it would have been the same on rainy days and dark nights, but you don't get them too often in Greece!!
Great villa, great views
What a beautiful villa! The views down to the coast at Klavos and beyond are spectacular and we could see the coast bathed in warming sunshine most days. Unfortunately as we climbed up the road to Kournas the sun seemed to dip behind the clouds which were prevalent practically the whole of our stay. What a pity! Such a lovely pool and surrounds but no sun in which to enjoy them. Probably the time of the year, the 8th to 22nd October.
Thanks Chris for responding to my query so quickly and getting the problem sorted out, overall we had a great time.
Delighted you enjoyed our Villa just such a shame the weather was unusually poor for October, even though the pool is heated it’s not the same without the sun!
A lovely villa in a perfect location
Set in a stunning location, the villa is clean, modern and very well equipped. If you can bear to tear yourself away from the lovely pool with its glorious views, the local and very traditional village of Kournas is just a few minutes’ walk away whilst its only a short drive to a Blue Flag beach and larger selection of tavernas, supermarkets and other facilities. Chris was extremely helpful from start to finish and responded in record time to all my queries. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would highly recommend this villa.
Breathtaking views, modern, well-equipped and private
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Caliz. The villa is quiet and private with beautiful views across the mountains and down to the sea. I sat for hours just staring at the view!
The villa is spacious, spotless and cool, and full of thoughtful extras to make your stay as easy and comfortable as possible. The welcome pack was particularly appreciated after a long drive from the other end of the island. Our teenage kids were particularly impressed with the fast wifi and Apple gadgets!
Although secluded, the villa is not remote, and there is a bakery, a shop and a few places to eat in the village (five minutes walk away), or there are lots of shops and restaurants a ten minute drive down the hills to the coast. Kournas Lake is definitely worth a trip (hire a pedalo and look for terrapins) and it’s worth following the owner’s recommendations for places to eat - we had consistently delicious food and good service in the places noted in the info book in the villa.
All in all, a lovely, stylish villa in a fantastic location with very helpful owners - we are already keen to return.
Beautiful villa with amazing views.
We are just back from a great week in Kournas. The villa is perfect for a group of adults or like us, a grown up family. The three double bedrooms all had super comfy beds, lovely bedding and great bathrooms. There is WiFi, satellite TV and every mod con you could possibly want. Outside, the pool is great and there is a large barbecue for outdoor cooking. The villa is on a hillside facing the sea so there was almost always a cooling breeze.
The village of Kournas is a totally authentic Cretan village with a convenience store, a bakery, a ceramics shop and 3 tavernas. We found them all very welcoming - this is a real village and not a tourist town.
We explored Lake Kourna, Rethymnon, Chania and the beach resorts at Georgeopoulis, Kalives and Almirida as well as a day walking down the Imbros Gorge. All within an hour of the villa.
Any queries or problems were quickly attended to by Chris or his local contacts (including solving the issue of me not able to access the directions on my aged phone - will definitely print them out next time!).
We had a great time and would highly recommend. Thanks Chris!
8 minute drive to a wonderful 7km sandy beach with numerous beach bars and plenty of beach beds and ample parking.
