Birchope Byre is situated in spectacular walking country between the Long Mynd and Stiperstones. Birchope Byre is an idyllic peaceful rural retreat, with views from the private garden across farmland towards the dramatic rocky outcrop of Stiperstones. Situated in the grounds of the owner's former farmhouse, the stone cottage with slate roof was converted in 2002, from a barn used to house cows and chickens. Reclaimed materials, beautiful wood, terracotta tiles, Cotswold stone flooring and iron light fittings made by a local blacksmith all add to the individual nature of the cottage. The cottage has been furnished with hand made furniture and fittings in elm and oak, and old farm implements add to the character. The cosy log burning stove and full central heating make Birchope Byre ideal at any time of the year, whether you are looking for an active family holiday, a romantic break or just somewhere to relax.
From the living room a double open plan staircase leads separately to each bedroom in the eaves. The family bedroom has a small double bed and a single bed. The double room has a double bed with space for a cot (on request) suitable for a small baby. The cottage may be unsuitable for the elderly, infirm or very young children due to the nature of stairs/steps inside, and garden steps down to the cottage. Please enquire for further details.
Steps lead up from the kitchen/diner to the luxury bathroom with Victorian style roll top bath and radiator, toilet, washbasin, separate shower, terracotta floor tiles and heated towel rail. Gothic style church carving around the mirror is echoed in the hand crafted door.
The cottage is accessed half a mile up a farm track,-definitely 'Off the Beaten Track!' Please note 4 wheel drive may be required in severe frost or snow.May be gates to open-may need wellies! Please enquire further.
Mobile phone reception is difficult at the cottage-ideal if you want to escape and relax, though wi-fi is available.
The cottage is attached at right angles to stables only used for storage.(Lockable storage for bikes by prior request),and is separated from the owners house by a lawned area not in use when guests are in the cottage to ensure privacy.
The abundance of wildlife makes Birchope a special place to stay with the increasingly rare curlew and lapwing being seasonal visitors. Red kite and buzzards can be seen wheeling overhead as well as many unusual birds visiting the garden. On early summer mornings baby fox cubs have been glimpsed on the hill above the byre, hares running in the fields, and at night badgers may be spotted while driving up the track.
