About Tim Ferguson

Tim is a BASI qualified snowboard instructor, a MIAS Mountain Bike trainer and assessor and a British Cycling Road Cycling Coach. In his words "I live for the mountains...summer & winter"

Sara is a former elite athlete having competed for England on the track & as a Fell Runner. Sara now concentrates on beasting Tim up anything hilly!

Cat is our daughter, currently aged 11 she is racing road bikes both on the road and the track (velodrome) and is planning to compete in the 2018 Megavalanche, whilst in the winter Cat slalom ski races. Having to forever wait for Mum & Dad, Cat has also turned to the dark side and has started to snowboard too. She is already annoying her Dad, better technique learnt in 3 days, although Dad is her instructor and therefore claims all the credit!!

Tim Ferguson purchased this chalet in 2013

Why Tim Ferguson chose Viel-Alpe

We love skiing and cycling. Its the ALPS!!!

In the winter Tim snowboards, Sara skis and Cat does both.

In the summer Tim mountain bikes - both XC and downhilling. In July 2018 Tim won the masters category of the Megavalanche. Tim also road bikes, spending each summer 'Col Bagging' and trying to keep up with Sara.

Sara sticks fervently to her road bike, but she is ferocious. Sara is the only person we know who is disappointed when she gets to the top of a steep & gnarly climb.

Cat road bikes and mountain bikes. As a flat track racer, the hills are just for training purposes. Downhilling is fast becoming another of Cats passions though. The downhill trails in ADH are wicked.

But added to this are an amazing array of other good fun stuff. As a family we to the via ferrata each summer, rock climb on the hundreds of bolted sport routes, white water raft, stand up paddle board, wind surf on the lake, swim gym and climb in the sports centre and ice skate in the summer on the outdoor rink.

What makes this chalet unique

Catered Ski Chalet in the Winter - whats not to like? Come and try Alpe d'Huez for yourself and see what a fab fab resort it is.

ADH has the most amazing array of stuff to do, read on....

Golf Course - we don't play, but other guests have done!

Football & Rugby pitches - summer camps for kids happen in August

Sports Centre - an incredible gym, spinning classes, under water spinning classes, table tennis, indoor climbing wall, swimming pool and a lot more

Ice Rink - outside

Outdoor Swimming Pool - heated and open summer and winter

X Fly - they have a zip wire, jump air bag, high ropes climbing tower and maze crawl

Horse riding - summer only

Husky Dog Sledding - winter only

Skiddoo Trekking - winter only

Stand Up Paddleboarding, Wind Surfing, Canoeing & Pedalo's - summer only

Via Ferrata - some of the most amazing sections, over 250 metes high sitting above the Sarenne Gorge.

Climbing - hundreds and hundreds of bolted sport routes.

Mountain Biking - downhilling in the summer, the lifts are open, its a gravity sport.

Mountain Biking XC - hundreds and hundreds of kilometres of trails. A year in ADH wouldn't be enough.

Road Biking - ADH is the MECCA for roadies. The famous 21 Hairpins of Tour de France fame is the pinnacle, but add to that the Col du Galibier, Col du Lauteret, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col de Glandon, Col d'Ornon, Col de Sarenne and the list goes on and on and on

White Water Rafting - summer only

Massage and Spa Centre

Fabulous shopping: Rip Curl, Napapijri, Superdry to name but a few

Awesome bars and restaurants: The O Bar, Smithies, The Underground, The Sphere Bar, Freerider and many many more

ADH has its own glacier too: the Sarenne Glacier, making it as snow sure as it can be. In the summer the Megavalanche - the worlds premier downhill enduro mountain bike race starts on the glacier. 2000 downhillers race on the snow before trails lower down the mountain.

In the winter the Sarenne Glacier provides the longest Black run in Europe.

Fantastic Chalet in a great resort

  • 5 of 5

Excellent chalet in a great location. We stayed at Chalet Cornillon as a group of 15, for a week skiing. Lots of room, lots of seating in communal areas and all well maintained. Gill and Roger were great hosts, knowledgeable and professional, we all enjoyed the varied meals and welcomed that afternoon treats. Hot tub, sauna, wifi and sky tv - there was something for everyone! We took Tim and Sara's recommendation with regards to transfers (1hr 45 mins from Grenoble airport) and lessons (Masterclass) which both worked well. Would not hesitate to recommend this chalet, we hope to visit again soon.

Fabulous property. Good location. Great views.

  • 5 of 5

This is a fantastic property. It has everything you need and more. Great facilities, jacuzzi, sauna, boot warmer :) . The property is v clean and well maintained with everyone’s needs taken in to consideration - who doesn’t need to spend their last day skiing dressed in an animal onesie!!

The whole chalet set up and catering has clearly been carefully thought through by Tim and Sara to cater for all ages and range of skiers and non skiers. Great attention to detail that make it a cut above other chalets we have stayed in.

Big thank you to Roger & Gill for delicious food and for catering for everyone’s preferences. We would all love to return.

End of Ski Season

  • 5 of 5

The Chalet was extremely comfortable and roomy. For non-skiers in their 70's it was excellent. It was well equipped with boot heaters (?), good Wi-Fi, a full Sky package, Snug for grandchildren and a better social area than any Chalet I've ever used. The hot tub gave a fantastic view down the valley, which I preferred to the Sauna.

The meals were the best I've had, possibly due to fabulous seasonaires ( in their 50's ) with bags of experience including several seasons at Mountain Chalet.

I can recommend Mountain Chalet without reservation, particularly for parties of 14.

Nice modern ski chalet.

  • 5 of 5

Modern ski chalet in a fab location in the stunning resort of Alpe d'Huez. Just had a great week in a lovely chalet. Its spacious, modern and luxurious. Nice en-suite bedrooms, well equipped social space with 2 living rooms (one that they call their snug), Sky TV with sports (was really appreciated), WiFi, great balcony overlooking the slopes and great cooking. Chalet was undersold to us and over delivered which is exactly how things should be. Will be returning next year. Thanks soooo much....

Super Chalet Super Resort

  • 5 of 5

Just got back form a super stay at Mountain Chalet in Alpe d'Huez. The chalet was excellent, totally as described by the owners and if anything was much much better than expected. The home cooking was spot on, massive food portions, well made and perfect after a hard day on the slopes. The chalet facilities are great too. Very spacious, very modern and very well thought out too. Sky TV was great, but the SNUG was brilliant too allowing an extra TV room and social space. Group favourite was probably the hot tub, its sooooo nice to re-charge weary legs whilst watching the sun go down over the blue run going down to Huez Village. Coming back next year for sure.

Blindingly Brilliant Chalet. Loved it.

  • 5 of 5

A great chalet and a great trip. Our bedrooms were well thought out, always nice to have an en-suite. The social facilities were modern, clean and tidy and there has been a great deal of thought to how the entire chalet has been presented. Its well equipped with British sockets and USB charging points, the WiFi and Sky TV helped make it feel a home from home. Gill & Roger (the chalet hosts) were fab, made us feel very welcome and kept a really clean and tidy chalet along with super food. Loved the sauna and other facilities BUT the HOT TUB was possibly the best thing. Situated with a fab fab fab view of the valley below - couldn't have asked for anything better. Booked for next year already.
