The Vigilant is nestled in the middle of the beautiful and tranquil Coastguard Square in Rye Harbour, a stone's throw from the river/harbour, and minutes from the huge beach. The house sleeps 8 people comfortably. Newly renovated, it boasts a very high standard of equipment throughout: WIFI, log burner, Nespresso machine, flat screen, barbecue etc. It is furnished with an eye for detail and offers a casual luxury feel. Everything has been thought and made available so that guests enjoy their stay: cooking material, DVDs, books, toys, high chair, generous cutlery. No expense was spared during this long renovation project. We are proud to offer what we genuinely think is a fantastic value for money deal.

Nice place / great shoreline
Nice location, minute from the harbour and the natural reserve.
The house was nicely done and could easily accomodate the 7 of us. Nice deco and good communication with the owner. Would not recommend without a car though.
Coast, Rye and Camber are great place to go and chill out.
A lovely cottage which was a good base for exploring the area.
We were happy with the cottage, it was stocked with everything needed but take your own supply of coat hangers. There is a lovely cafe for breakfast around the corner, also a pub for dinner and a small shop for essentials. The front deck is a sun trap in the morning and perfect to sit and enjoy a cup of tea. Really loved Rye and the surrounding area.
Stay at the Vigilant
Cute rustic house on Rye harbour, in good location. Less than 10 minutes drive to Rye town centre and the famous mermaid street. 5 minute walk to the nature reserve where you can see rabbits and different types of birds, ending with rye harbour seaside. We also visited Camber sand, Winchelsea, Hastings and Bodiam Castle. The house has spacious four bedrooms, a garden / patio and great parking for two cars. I recommend :)
It was ok.
What I didn't realize (but should have checked myself) was that Rye Habour is definitely not close to Rye, and is beyond walking distance. Another thing to remember is that there are seagulls who are not under anyone's control. Seagulls make a LOT of noise, and apparently don't sleep either. The house itself was ok but there was a very strong smell of oil, and it was very hot, especially in the top bedroom. Unfortunately the key safe wasn't working and after quite some difficulty we managed to contact someone who drove out to let us in. This all took a long time, when everyone was tired from traveling. The house was spotlessly clean, and everything worked as it should. It was also very inexpensive for the size and the number of beds.
Lovely house great location
House was lovely, great patio, rooms all comfy. Great area, beach was amazing, just yards away, empty in August and so wide and long. Good food in the William the Conqueror pub, Rye is very old and pretty. General store open seven days a week just 500 yards from house. Everyone loved drum. Would definitely go again.
Had a great time in the cottage. There were 8 adults staying with plenty of room for all of us. Place was clean and well equipped. Nicolas was very helpful leading up to the stay, always replying promptly to any questions I had. Would recommend for a large group looking to explore the area or just wanting to get away from it all!
The huge Rye Harbour beach is a few minutes walk/bike.
Get the best of both worlds!
While the village is close to many beautiful known and sometimes crowded places, it offers a “get away from it all” feeling like nowhere else. Although well-worn, we feel the word “escape” gets its true meaning here.
This is a real place, authentic, not purely designed for tourism.
You can choose to leave the car here and enjoy everything the surroundings have to offer, or use it as a base to explore the region.
The village itself is located along the Rother River, which separates Camber and Rye Harbour beaches. The latter is less than 10 min walk, across a beautiful Natural Reserve. Not accessible by car, it is unlikely you get disturbed by anybody else…
Although rather small, the village offers the basic services with general store, pubs and cafes.
From Rye Harbour you will get easy access to the nearby Rye Citadel (really worth a visit), the famous Camber Beach, Winchelsea, Hastings…..
