Lovely cottage and amazing views!
So glad you enjoyed your stay. Do come again!
Lovely views in need of upgrade and a deep clean
Property tired in places and in need of a thorough clean, lovely views, and walks around the cottage
Hi Mark and thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you enjoyed the views; I hope the garden was looking good for you too. Disappointed you felt cleanliness was not up to scratch. Could you possibly let me know where exactly you felt we missed the mark on this? If you have any pics, that would help a great deal. Also sorry you felt the cottage is tired looking especially as we spent nearly £8000 in the spring on curtains, blinds and a complete redecoration throughout. However, we do appreciate there is more to be done and so this winter we are replacing some of the older furniture.
You feel like at home
We loved the place. Everything was perfect, the location, the interior, the service, we felt to be at home!
So glad you enjoyed your stay. You were excellent guests and would be welcome back at any time.
Great location and beautiful scenery.
Perfect location for walks across Dartmouth. Secluded and quiet. The perfect place for a getaway. The scenery and views are wonderful, just relax and take it all in.
Thanks for your comments, Richard and I’m really glad you enjoyed your stay. I can’t guarantee such hot weather every year!
Amazing location with wonderful panoramic views
Comfortable and full of character with a beautiful garden much enjoyed by my children. Communication with cottage owner good, he was very helpful. Lovely pub in Widdecombe ‘The Old Inn’.
The cottage is well situated and we really enjoyed the walks. The cottage could do with a good clean. On the serface it looked clean but we found used bottles of drink under the beds amongst a year of dust same as behind chairs and we couldn't use the bed settee for same reason it could be because it's the end of season. It was well equipped and warm enough. Bed linen very clean beds abit hard but to be fair I do like a soft mattress. My dogs loves the garden but please be careful to check them each time as both came in with ticks and blood suckers on them so needed a couple of trips to vet but we did expect this as pre warned by our vet. All in all a good holiday.
Many thanks for taking the time to review Windtor. I'm glad you found the cottage clean and apologise for the sofa bed. It is not really intended for guest use and I normally have it checked for any guests who do ask for extra sleeping space because there is no bedding available in that room. I'm pleased you found the garden great for dogs!
The cottage is about 45 minutes from the South Devon beaches but some brave guests have been known to swim in the local Dart river.
Windtor Cottage is best accessed from the A38 through Bovey Tracey and then Haytor, following the signs to Widecombe. You pass through the village and continue south till you come to Lady Meadow Terrace on the right hand side. Climb the hill past the row of houses until you see Windtor which is the second from the top of the road. The postal address of the cottage is Windtor Cottage, Dunstone, Widecombe.
Bovey Tracey 15 minutes, Ashburton 15 minutes, Exeter 35 minutes, Plymouth 45 minutes.
The Shop on the Green in Widecombe carries some essentials. There are two pubs, the Old Inn in the village and the Rugglestone on the road out of the village towards Venton. Both serve excellent food and beverages. The National Trust shop and Church House are worth a visit as is the magnificent 14th Century St Pancras Church. Both Tesco and Waitrose deliver to the cottage and many of the local smallholders sell vegetables in season. There is some 02 reception near the cottage but none of the other providers are available in the valley. The River Dart Country Park with Zip Wires and an assault course is a few minutes’ drive from the cottage as is Dartmeet and South Devon Railway. The Two Moors Way runs across the top of Wind Tor and this takes you right through to Exmoor. We are also fortunate to be a few miles from the beginning of the Templer Way. We are about 45 minutes from the sea.
Changeover Day: Saturday is the preferred changeover day but out of season other days are possible. We have a minimum booking fee of £300.
