A series of unfortunate events
We landed to the news that there was no water and if we needed the bathroom there are porto potty to use in the street. A couple of hours after we got in the room we had cold water but no hot water until the next day. A week later we were informed that there was an emergency plumbing issue and that the water needed to be shut off again! We were instructed to not use anything in the room and to use the restroom in the lobby if needed. The hotel maintenance did not know how long this would last. By the morning there was a note left on the door that said we can resume using the toilet, shower etc. It was very windy the time we were there and the sliding door to the balcony was not secure. There was a loud rattling noise all day and night, so we had to stick pieces of cardboard in the crevices to get the obnoxious shaking noise to stop. It was very inconvenient to have to stuff 6 pieces of cardboard and paper towels in the door each night. I prepaid for parking and was assigned a spot to find out that this spot is surrounded by some type of a fence the host claimed that the property management took it recently. With the spot being taken, I had to reach out to host in the evening to find out what spot I really was assigned to. In the meantime I had to take someone else’s spot, who wasn’t happy about it. Luckily, he responded quickly till he answered saying we reassigned you to a different spot last minute. There is a very rowdy bar in the building, every night you hear people yelling. One night I had a drunk person trying to enter my room after 10pm completely drunk claiming it’s his room and the front desk told him this is his room number! I needed a late check out because our flight was not till 10 pm and I asked a day before and paid what I was told. The next morning the cleaning crew came three times to knock on the door and one of them just opened it after I was approved for late checkout. The pool is not heated and barely gets any sun because of the buildings surrounding it, so it is always freezing water. The view is great from the balcony. The ocean and the mountains, no other property has the best of both worlds like that in Waikiki.

The view was absolutely incredible! Location, location, location! From your private Lanai you can see diamond head, the Waikiki beach, and flamingos from the zoo all at once. You feel like you are on the beach while in your room. I want to go back already and I just got home. The room has everything you need. NIce TV, wifi, cable, a cooktop, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, dishes, pots, pans, utensils. It was perfect, perfect, perfect. They will even hold your luggage so you can fully enjoy your vacation while waiting to check in or check out. You are in walking distance from almost everything. If not, Oahu has a wonderful bus system. There are bus stops just outside your building. They run every 15 minutes or so. The fare is $3 one way and you can buy a day pass at the corner ABC store for unlimited rides for $9.50. I loved my vacation!

Waikiki Honeymoon Home
Great little studio property located inside a superbly positioned friendly hotel condo in the quieter end of Waikiki. Unit had everything we needed to make the most of our 9 day stay in Oahu. Made good use of the kitchenette equipped with all utensils and dinnerware for self catered breakfasts and picnics and the balcony is perfect for enjoying the daily sunsets over the ocean with a cold beer after a long day at the beach. Supplying local Coffee a picnic cooler and snorkel gear for 2 is a great personal touch from the host. The only things I would say were a downside were the windows/door onto the balcony are in need of an upgrade. They are old and offer little sound insulation from the busy street below. Fortunately we are deep sleepers so it wasn’t an issue for us sleeping, but traffic, motorcycles, loud mufflers etc are definitely intrusive. Also the unit has no central air conditioning and uses a small portable unit which exhausts onto the balcony. We stayed in December and it struggled to keep the room below 80F late afternoon after returning from beach, so I would think it would be unsuitable to deal with heat at the height of summer. Also (NOT an issue with the property itself) - overnight parking is either non-existent or astronomically priced in the surrounding area. This is a Waikiki issue in general, but be prepared for that as ($40-50 a day) really adds a huge surcharge to that weekly car rental you may be planning. Just a heads up to others who may be Oahu first timers. Mahalo Mark and Hotel Grand Waikiki for hosting us, we had an awesome time and would definitely book again WHEN we visit again. Hawaii really is such a magical place! Aloha!

Hot Hot Hot
This unit was extremely hot. I was visiting at the end of October. it did NOT HAVE PROPER COOLING EQUIPMENT. It was using some cheap AC unit that was leaking heat out of the back into the room. The room would be 88 degrees starting at about 9:30am and would only get down to 77 during the night. I wasn’t even able to sleep comfortably. The property manager did not help resolve the issue at all. He just said “ it’s gets hot” . I’m sorry but no, you have guest that pay good money to stay here. You should upgrade the AC unit and insulate the unit better instead of those old glass folding windows. This unit is a joke, the building and atmosphere is awesome but this unit specifically needs some work. this was a horrible experience. I couldn’t even enjoy the awesome view, I had to keep the blinds closed all day so it would not get hot in the room, and it still got up to 88 degrees Fahrenheit . One star. Use your money somewhere else that will be more impactful towards a positive experience.
