"Les Janins" is built in traditional stone, exposed walls and original features have been retained inside augmented by stylish refurbishment and modern comfort. Bedrooms are a good size, particularly impressive is the master bedroom with a separate seating area and French doors leading out to the pool. The main bathroom boasts a spa bath. Our new luxury fitted kitchen is a chefs delight and the open plan design of the main living area lends itself to entertaining. The snug provides a peaceful alternative, in which to relax with a book or use it as a separate "kids zone" with the Wii, board games and 50" HDTV with Satellite. Outside there are two separate private gardens, the back garden is walled with beautiful views from the pool up to the church in Dieulivol. The private walled pool area retains the sun late into the evening, a lovely spot to enjoy the magnificent sunsets with a glass of local rose! Plenty of space and outside furniture to enjoy al fresco dining with wonderful produce from the local markets. A tranquil, rural setting situated between the two historic towns, Monsegur and Duras with bars, restaurants, shops and other amenities. "Les Janins" is ideally located to explore the surrounding area with its beautiful countryside, stunning bastide towns, numerous vineyards and a host of leisure activities.

There were 6 of us, grandparents, parents and 2 children. We loved the layout of the property, bedrooms on one side and the open plan living space. The connecting hallway was a lovely space for the early riser to sit and start the day with a cup of tea!! Well equipped kitchen, lots of games / books for us all. The pool has to be the main feature, the kids loved it, and the caretaker came regularly to clean it. The property is ideally situated between Duras and Monsegur for shopping and markets.
There is wifi at the property but it isn't reliable, nice to have 2 weeks without Facebook, but I can see this may be a problem for some visitors. However when you are sitting in the garden watching the sunset, with a glass of wine listening to the silence does wifi really matter. Thanks Les Janine for a lovely holiday.
Nice house in a quite spot. Responsive owners
Les Janins is situated in a quiet part of Aquitaine amongst a small group of similar properties. The house is in two parts with the 4 bedrooms, main bathroom toilet and snug in one half and the lounge/kitchen in the other. Linking them is a fairly large vestibule area incorporating the main entrance. The highlight of the property for us was the lounge/dining area containing a very well equiped modern kitchen.
There is also a snug in the other half of the house which is a nice cool room in the heat of the day with full UK Freeview TV as well as a Wii which has some favourite games for the family such as Mario Kart etc. At the back there is a good pool and small garden area which is a suntrap - it gets very hot there!! If you have young children there are lots of outdoor toys for the pool etc and for all of the family a decent table tennis table once you can get it set up!
Space wise we thought that 4 adults plus 2 young children would be ideal really but we were fine with 6 adults. Be aware though that all of you will be sharing one bathroom and separate toilet at night time as the second bathroom is in the other half of the house just off the kitchen.
In terms of things to do, we really enjoyed the night market in Duras which had a really nice atmosphere. Get there early though as you need to get a table!! We had some lovely food there, especially from the butcher's BBQ! We tried a number of vineyards (we really like Molhiere wines from just outside Duras!!!)
If there is a fisherman in your party, the river Dropt is about 300 yards away although I found the best swims for Carp to be just past the rugby club in Duras. I had fish to over 10lbs which were good sport although for serious fishing head south to either the Garonne at Marmande or the Lot.
As a golfer I can also recommend Chateau Des Vigiers which aside from a decent golf course also hosts a good spa and a michelin star restaurant. I only played golf there but the rest looked lovely.
Overall I thought the price charged for the house was fair and as we were the first to rent it this year, there were naturally a few snagging problems for which the owner has taken action. Her local support, a lady called Fabienne turned up a few times during our stay to clean the pool and check that everything was OK. She speaks good english so there are no communication barriers.
This part of the world lives life at a different pace to the UK and it's a great place to rest, recharge and have fun.
Great holiday villa
We stayed at this great villa for a week. 2 families but plenty of room. Great pool. Kids loved it. The house has everything you need for a great holiday. The night markets at duras and eymet are definitely worth a visit. The caretaker fabienne was very nice and helpful when the hot water broke down.she was there very quickly and fixed it. Although it was not a major problem. Overall this house is perfect for a quiet family holiday in a beautiful part of france. We would definitely book again. Pat. July 2016
Idyllic and Peaceful
The cottage lived up to its billing. Not only is it in excellent condition, we found the location to be incredibly peaceful. The ground and pool proved to be a great place to relax. There was plenty of space in the cottage to spread out. The location is just about right for popping into Duras. Booked again already!
Thank you very much, we look forward to welcoming you back as return guests next year!
My family of four children (16,14 and twins aged 9), my wife and I had a fantastic holiday at Les Janins. Brand new modern kitchen (including wine fridge), v good quality furnishings throughout and pristine bed linen. All the mod cons you could wish for are included. The pool was used constantly and the table tennis table was up permanently. Very peaceful setting, a vast number of vineyards to visit and an abundance of historic towns to visit. A particular favourite was Eymet with it's 'must visit' Italian restaurant in the picturesque square. Bergerac and Bordeaux also have many great sights. We even managed to visit the coast - Pyla sur Mer - biggest sand dune in Europe. Stunnings views across Arcachon Bay. Leave early as the traffic can be horrendous!! Would definitely stay again but would bring a chauffeur so i could visit more vineyards next time!!!
Can't say enough good things about this lovely villa. It really was the best we have stayed in, and hesitate to give it a glowing review in case it gets so heavily booked up we can never stay there again! It offered us everything. It was very clean, modern and comfortable. With two very smart bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable with lovely linens. The kitchen was stylish, including a wine fridge! The media room was a great hit with the family when it rained, and when it didn't they enjoyed the pool. We had a lovely holiday. Lots to do, and especially enjoyed the night markets. On our last day we discovered the local village had a cafe that would deliver bread if ordered the day ahead. Small supermarkets close by. Definitely need a car, as it is not in walking distance of villages. The caretakers are a lovely young couple who speak perfect English and are very helpful. Take note, the pool is not fenced in, which was a concern to my daughter-in-law. Though, it has a cover for when not in use. Definitely recommend this villa.
