About Helen de Carles and Robin Burdfield
We moved to West Blackdown Cottage 2002 with our 3 children. Our home dates back to the late 18th century, and nestles on the edge of Dartmoor near the small village of Brentor. On our doorstep are the wilds of Dartmoor National Park, the well-known and much photographed church of St. Michaels on Brent tor, and the bustling market town of Tavistock, with its many attractions. We love welcoming our guests and doing all we can to help them enjoy their stay here. We are close to the premises most of the time to attend to any needs or problems. We look forward to welcoming you.

Terrific Holiday Accommodation
Wonderful moorland cottage. Great location. Very friendly and helpful hosts.
Lovely cottage with open aspect and many walks from the doorstep. We really enjoyed the stay.
Lovely cottage, very cosy and welcoming
Being on the moors was delightful. Helen & Robin, our hosts, couldn't have been more welcoming. The cottage has absolutely everything, including non-stick pans, which I haven't found in any other cottage we have stayed in so I take my own! The bed is very comfortable and the lounge is soooo cosy at night. The private garden that we can use is just that, private. It was lovely to sit out in the evening with a glass of wine.
Sheep, goats and even a few Devon cows come round and can be seen through the kitchen window on a regular basis!!
We will definitely be booking for next year.
Roomy cottage in a rural area
We stayed 6 nights at the cottage. Good base to access Dartmoor and close to Tavistock. We had a fair amount of rain, but still got out and did some exploring. Robin and Helen were excellent hosts. We would stay again if we came to the area. Still lots to do in the area.
A lovely house in an idyllic spot
The house is very comfortable and well equipped, in a lovely position on the edge of the moor. Helen and Robin were very welcoming but unobtrusive. Ideal for a tranquil retreat.
Our nearest airport is at Exeter. Rail links from Exeter or Plymouth. Bus service to the village from Plymouth and Okehampton. Good local taxi services. Plenty of safe parking outside the property.
Tavistock, our local market town, is 6 miles from West Blackdown Cottage. Here you will find all facilities, including a good selection of independent shops, restaurants and cafes, a daily pannier market, and fortnightly farmers market. Lydford Gorge, owned by the National Trust, is just 5 minutes drive away. The 365 square miles of Dartmoor is literally on the doorstep.
