Generous house in peaceful location
House was all as promised. Kitchen well equipped & grand games room. Dishwasher was broken but new one installed in a few days.
We were 8 people but another 4 could have comfortably joined us. Well thought out house altogether.
Perfect home for large family gatherings
The photos of this house don't do it justice. It's very spacious - the split-level main room and master bedroom are huge. The house is very well equipped with everything you need to cook and keep children entertained. Ours divided their time between the pool and the games room. The TV was never switched on. There are also four bikes available which we used to ride to the boulangerie nearby - a lovely way to start the day. The house is in a beautiful, small and friendly village. There are no amenities in the village but supermarkets and restaurants are a short drive away.
When we arrived we were notified that one of the showers was broken. A plumber was sent but he was unable to fix it during our stay but this didn't really impact on us as there are four bathrooms in the house.
Communication with the owner and the local property manager was quick and easy.
Overall, I would highly recommend this property for large groups and multiple-generational family gatherings. We hope to return one day.
Thoughtfully and well equipped house with all the necessary ingredients for a very enjoyable time for a large group.
Wonderful house for priceless family holiday
An amazing house, a dream property with all the facilities you could wish for...and more! We were a party of 11 ranging from 10 months to 85 years and there was room for all to have time together yet keep some privacy( important for the 85 year old). 3 fridges mean that you can stock up drinks and food for a few days. The children loved the pool which was well maintained with a quick response from the charming maintainance person when the pump stopped. The area is wonderful, typically French, with easy access to a range of activities. Wonderful memories for us all. Thanks Kirsten
We were are a party of six adults and six children, ranging from 20 months to nine years, and everyone had a blast! The pool was warm and inviting and maintained once a week. The property was like a home from home. Everything was thought about from swim towels, pool toys, kitchen utensils, condiments, you name it, it was there.
The property was extremely spacious which meant you could hide away if you needed some peace and quiet. It was clean, plenty of bathrooms, and well maintained.
The area is peaceful but there is lots to do within an hours drive including the beach, cognac houses, pons, Saintes....
We had the most wonderful holiday, the first time abroad with all four of our kids (4 under 5!!!)
Thank you Kirsten xxxx
Fabulous house in a sleepy setting!
The house itself is in the sleepy hamlet of Auvignac. Only a short drive to the nearest village of Montils for boulengerie and a general food store. Supermarkets in nearby Pons. The house is huge and easily accommodated our party of 10 adults and 4 children under 3!! The kitchen is superbly well equipped - it lacked nothing! Pool is fantastic and we made full use of it! An excellent house and a holiday enjoyed by all!!
Special interest holidays:
Bordeaux, arguably the finest wine area in the world, is close by with famous areas such as Pomerol and St Emillion being within an hour's drive. Cotes de Bourg and Cotes de Blaye are even closer and we can recommend some excellent wine tours and chateaux to visit.
The area is great cycling country, and the Tour de France regularly passes within a couple of hours drive of the house.
The coast is only a 40 minute drive away, and offers a wonderful contrast of beaches. The gentle sloping beaches at St Georges de Didonne, are great for children, with a long promenade and many cafes and restaurants both beachside and in the town. There are also watersports and dinghy hire available here. The dramatic unspoilt beaches of the Cote Sauvage are fantastic for surfing, and the area is criss-crossed with cycling paths and walking trails through the forest.
The airports at Bordeaux and La Rochelle are both one hours drive away. There is a good year round service to Bordeaux from the UK, and an excellent service to La Rochelle during the summer months from many regional airports in the UK. Flights also operate to Bergerac and Limoges (2 hrs). Flight operators include BA and the budget airlines. Driving is convenient, either using Eurotunnel or one of the Channel ferry services, with drive times to the house of between 4 hrs from St Malo and 7hrs from Calais.
There is a boulangerie and small general store in Montils only 2km away, and a lovely cycle ride on a summer morning. Pons, Cognac and Saintes are all close by (ten to twenty minutes by car), and offer shopping, restaurants, some excellent markets and many sightseeing opportunities and activities.
The area is famous for Cognac, Pineau de Charente and oysters. Oyster sellers pop up at street corners and there are many degustations offering tastings of Cognac, Pineau and local wines. The area is excellent for cycling, and nearby there is also golf, horse riding, water parks, canoeing and boating. There are many local restaurants all within a short drive or cycle.
There are 2 adult bikes and 1 child's bike at the house, and bikes may also be hired through www.bikehiredirect.com who will deliver to the house. They can also provide bike racks, helmets and other accessories. Visit their website for hire details and for information about local routes.
Saintes is situated on the Charente river, and is famous for its architecture, Roman ruins and Romanesque churches. There is a wonderful market here most days, and boat hire and river trips are available. Cognac needs no introduction and the large Cognac producers all offer tours and tastings. Pons is the smaller of the three towns, and is a lovely medieval town dominated by the large Donjon - a great place for an evening drink followed by a meal at the excellent Hotel de Bordeaux.
There is an indoor waterpark at Les Antilles at Jonzac, and a "Go Ape" style high tree ropes experience at St George de Didonnes. Family attractions further afield include the high-tech theme park Futuroscope near Poiters, and Le Puy du Fou near Cholet.
The islands of Ile de Re and Ile d'Oleron are both within about one hours drive. Here you will find more lovely beaches, excellent cycling and the chic and pretty port town town of St Martin on the Ile de Re if you feel the need to promenade a little!
