Step out of the door in The Lake District and walk on the fells in all directions from Keswick without the need to use your car. Five minute walk to well-stocked mini supermarket. This is a warm, comfortable two bedroom apartment in the top half of a former railway house, situated on the outskirts of Keswick. The house is built in traditional local stone with the top half rendered and painted white. The apartment has a spacious lounge, plus a good sized double bedroom and bathroom. The double bed is 5 foot wide. A small bedroom has two bunk beds. These are custom built and 180 cms long so anyone over 6 foot would not be able to stretch out. The dining kitchen seats up to four, and is equipped to a very high standard. There is parking for two cars. The apartment has panoramic views of the Grassmoor Group of hills, from the lounge and both bedrooms. This is an ideal location for walking, and exploring the Lake District.

4 Ridgemount is owned by Catherine and John Edgar who lived in Cumbria for over 30 years, although we have now moved to Worcestershire. We are ardent walkers and love the theatre.

Why Catherine Edgar chose Keswick
Keswick is an ideal base for our family holidays as it allows us such easy walking access to the the lakes and is also an outlet for the cultural aspects of Keswick such as the famous theatre, book and jazz festivals etc. There are plenty of activities for families with young or older children in the town and in the area. Keswick also has a good choice of pubs and restaurants The apartment is very cosy with stunning views, this is why we fell for it.
What makes this Apartment unique
The benefit above other properties is that it is near but not in the town centre and is therefore quiet with good views yet close to amenities. We have 2 designated off road private parking spaces at the back of the property. We are on a bus route and also right next to the old railway track which is now a cycling and walking route. We do not increase our prices over the summer or at holiday times.

Flat advertised as being suitable for 4 adults, specified this in booking. Beds in 2nd room were 2 child's bunks - very small. Sofas very uncomfortable not a very relaxing environment.
I am sorry that these travellers were dissatisfied with the bunk beds and sofas. I had pointed out to these particular guests that perhaps our flat would not suit their needs but they assured me they ‘only needed a base’.
The bunk beds are custom built and in fact 180 cms long.
The sofas are 2 seaters, high backed and quite new. Other guests and indeed ourselves have found them comfortable.
Sadly I suspect these guests felt aggrieved because I had to phone them during their stay because of complaints from 2 nearby properties about noise disturbance and a dog who was left locked in the flat and clearly distressed. It is clear on the website that we do not accept dogs.
Happily this is an isolated case and we nearly always have appreciative guests who enjoy this warm comfortable flat, well located to enjoy this beautiful area of Cumbria.

We spend 4 nights in this beautiful flat in Keswick last week with our daughters.
We had everything what we want. Nice and clean flat with two easy parking space at the back of the house. Really close to the shopping street.

Cosy place, great location!
We are a young family and we had an amazing break here, so much we tried to book again soon as we left!! The walk into Keswick was a perfect distance for our young boys of 2 and 4 and we had some great run's and bike rides along the path into town. The apartment was also great, had everything we needed. Thank you for a great stay!
Easy to find. Two parking spaces for apartment 4, although we only needed one. Loved the apartment as soon as we walked in. Huge porch area with a handy bench which was perfect for storing all of the walking boots, hats, scarves, gloves and coats. Nice and warm, very spacious and comfy beds. Fabulous views of the fells which we admired each morning in bed with a cup of tea - heaven. As we needed to take duvet covers, sheets and towels we thought we should also take dish cloths, tea towels, washing up liquid and toilet tolls, although all of these things were provided in abundance. There were lots of extra pillows and blankets provided too. Kitchen had everything you could need. We just needed to pull the table away from the wall and get the fourth chair from a bedroom to seat all of us. Shower was very powerful and I also enjoyed a nice long, hot bath after a hard days hiking. Brand new combi boiler meant we didn't run out of hot water when we all needed a shower. Lots of games and DVDs in the living room for the evening, although we were out most nights. No storage in the smaller room, although there is so much in the big room we gave our girls the chest of drawers in there, and we still had plenty left. A truly lovely place which we would definitely visit again.
One tip is that our girls are 5ft6 and 5ft7 and they just fitted comfortably in the bunk beds, which were slightly shorter than a standard bed length. Great for kids but if you have a lofty teenager over 5ft8 they may not be able to stretch out. Not a problem for most people I should imagine. Thank you to Catherine for letting your lovely home to us. We had a fabulous time.

Fitz park nearby, ideal for children.
Castlehead (162m, 531 feet), only ten minutes out of Keswick but with splendid views of the Borrowdale valley and beyond. The old railway track is now a first class level and quiet path to nearby Threlkeld, following and crossing the course of the River Greta, a lovely wooded valley.
Latrigg (367m, 1174 feet), easier to reach than it might look and with a glorious panorama of northern Lakeland from the summit.
Walla Crag is another lovely walk which you can start from Keswick and commands wonderful views over Derwentwater.
Derwentwater (about 9miles, 5 hours) and Buttermere (about 4 miles, 2-3 hours) have clear round the lake paths with minimal road use and splendid views. The Derwentwater walk can be staged by using the launch and bus services.
Catbells (445m, 1424') is an extremely popular fell to climb. Combined with a launch trip to or back from Keswick the options are to follow the ridge or take the easier terrace along this prominent fell.
Haystacks (582m, 1908'). A favourite of Wainwright and where he chose to have his ashes scattered.
This is a very varied route with great views into the Buttermere Valley.
For those wanting to tackle the highest peaks, the area contains England's highest mountains all within easy reach of Keswick, Skiddaw (931m, 3054'), The Scafells (977m, 3206'), Helvellyn (949m, 3116') and Great Gable (899m, 2949').
