About Julie Milnes
My husband who is a retired bank manager and myself purchased the property and have put our heart and soul into creating 3 beautiful cottages, of which 2 are doggy friendly, all in an idyllic setting. We are offering luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. Our friends thought that we were mad to take on such a large building development and after a while, when the builder had told us that he didn't think anyone would have taken it on unless they were a builder, we began to think our friends were right but it seemed a good idea at the time! We were very naive but we soon learned how to project manage a development of this size and quickly understood that there was a lot of stress and sleepless nights involved. Because I had a romantic vision of how my little hamlet should look and nothing else would do, the budget, as you see on TV programmes was blown out of the water but second best simply would not do in my mind. I hope you will be impressed with the results.

Why Julie Milnes chose Eskdaleside cum Ugglebarnby
Please note, the service charge is not a fee that we have created it is in effect a booking fee to the advertising company. Great location!!!!!The setting is peaceful and feels like you are away from it all, yet you are handy for Whitby (4 miles). Other beaches like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are only a short drive away. We are close to local tourist attractions such as Goathland ( "Heartbeat country") and Grosmont where you can catch the steam train of a bygone era. You feel like you are far from the madding crowd but can be amongst it in no time at all. we are nestled in the valley which is a very sheltered position, with beautiful views over the hills of the National Park.ALL COTTAGES TRIMMED FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER.From November to March the cottages are priced to entice couples for a winter break.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottages are newly converted with full commercial hot water and gas central heating and all up to date thermal regulations, making sure your winter stay is very cosy. There is also the added benefit of a log burning stove for that romantic feel but you will not need it to feel warm. A dog washing facility has been installed from January 2016.

Short break at cottage near Whitby
A great cottage. Beautifully decorated, to a very high standard. The interior design was tasteful and of a very high standard. It was spotless.
In addition the location was perfect. We had a lovely time. Thank you so much.

Lovely renovated farm cottages
We had a lovely time staying in The Coach House. Beautifully renovated and furnished, with an excellent kitchen. The weather was particularly chilly when we were there, but the cottage was always warm and cosy. We ate out a few times and made a few simple meals in the cottage - as well as a cooked breakfast each day (well, we were on holiday!), everything we needed was provided plus essentials like washing-up liquid and dishwasher tablets.
It was nice having armchairs in the kitchen diner as our old dog can’t climb stairs anymore so we mostly stayed downstairs with her (note - the sitting room with leather sofa and TV is upstairs).
We slept well, the bed was really comfortable with feather pillows and a cozy duvet.
We would definitely return.
Thank you for your review. We very much enjoyed having you stay in The Coach House and are so pleased you had a lovely time.
Lovely cottage.Just what we needed and exactly as it said on the tin.
Had to leave early-sadly- because of domestic crisis caused mainly by b......y Brexit.
Pleasant, well-situated cottage
We thoroughly enjoyed our four nights here. The cottage is clean and well-maintained, the hosts are friendly and responsive, and the location is great for exploring the North York Moorlands towns, historical sites, and trails.
5 Star stay in The Coach House
Lovely stay in The Coach House and particularly enjoyed all the luxurious furniture and soft furnishings, giving a very warm and welcoming feel. Well appointed throughout, we were able to cook all homemade meals with ease and ate in all but one night (had to sample fish and chips at Whitby once!). Superb location for accessing the Cleveland Coast as well as the Eastern and Southern Moors for a mixture of walking experiences. The owners of the property were excellent: even though they were away themselves they still could not have done any more for us to make our stay more comfortable. Really recommend their hospitality and kindness. Absolutely fantastic stay!
Perfect, relaxing...so many great mr
The most beautiful cottage - we couldn't have asked for more! So well-appointed and with such friendly couple. We will definitely be returning!
