About Julie Milnes
My husband who is a retired bank manager and myself purchased the property and have put our heart and soul into creating 3 beautiful cottages, of which 2 are doggy friendly, all in an idyllic setting. We are offering luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. Our friends thought that we were mad to take on such a large building development and after a while, when the builder had told us that he didn't think anyone would have taken it on unless they were a builder, we began to think our friends were right but it seemed a good idea at the time! We were very naive but we soon learned how to project manage a development of this size and quickly understood that there was a lot of stress and sleepless nights involved. Because I had a romantic vision of how my little hamlet should look and nothing else would do, the budget, as you see on TV programmes was blown out of the water but second best simply would not do in my mind. I hope you will be impressed with the results.
Julie Milnes purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Julie Milnes chose Eskdaleside cum Ugglebarnby
Please note, the service charge is not a fee that we have created it is in effect a booking fee to the advertising company. Great location!!!!!The setting is peaceful and feels like you are away from it all, yet you are handy for Whitby (4 miles). Other beaches like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are only a short drive away. We are close to local tourist attractions such as Goathland ( "Heartbeat country") and Grosmont where you can catch the steam train of a bygone era. You feel like you are far from the madding crowd but can be amongst it in no time at all. we are nestled in the valley which is a very sheltered position, with beautiful views over the hills of the National Park.ALL COTTAGES TRIMMED FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER.From November to March the cottages are priced to entice couples for a winter break.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottages are newly converted with full commercial hot water and gas central heating and all up to date thermal regulations, making sure your winter stay is very cosy. There is also the added benefit of a log burning stove for that romantic feel but you will not need it to feel warm. A dog washing facility has been installed from January 2016.

The cottages and the owners were great, cottages beautiful, owners very helpful
A fabulous cottage in a great location outside whitby. Everything was superb!
A 5 star hotel in a cottage - a fab place to stay with beautiful countryside and lots of walks nearby.
A well placed luxury cottage break
The cottage is well setup, maintained and cosy. Great bathroom to relax in after a days walking at the many routes in the area. Comfortable and spacious kitchen connected to relaxing living room. This is certainly one of the best cottages we have stayed at over the last 15 years.
We stayed in Drake Cottage with the amazing bathroom.
Robert and Julie were very welcoming and had lots of ideas for walks we could go on with our dog Donnie. Saying that Donnie loved the heated floor so much he wasn’t that keen to go for a walk!
The cottage had everything we needed and the decoration and fittings were beautiful.
The log burner was lovely even though we didn’t need it for heat. Donnie enjoyed lounging in front of it.
Thanks for a great stay.

A very comfortable and well appointed cottage
Drake cottage is set in a very peaceful village. Made to feel very welcome by the owner on arrival and inside the cottage is very homely with log fire and fully equipped modern kitchen. The cottage has the best bathroom we have ever seen so you actually feel like your staying in a 5 star hotel. Overall an excellent break for us.
