About Julie Milnes
My husband who is a retired bank manager and myself purchased the property and have put our heart and soul into creating 3 beautiful cottages, of which 2 are doggy friendly, all in an idyllic setting. We are offering luxury accommodation for guests who would like a peaceful setting in beautiful surroundings. Our friends thought that we were mad to take on such a large building development and after a while, when the builder had told us that he didn't think anyone would have taken it on unless they were a builder, we began to think our friends were right but it seemed a good idea at the time! We were very naive but we soon learned how to project manage a development of this size and quickly understood that there was a lot of stress and sleepless nights involved. Because I had a romantic vision of how my little hamlet should look and nothing else would do, the budget, as you see on TV programmes was blown out of the water but second best simply would not do in my mind. I hope you will be impressed with the results.
Julie Milnes purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Julie Milnes chose Eskdaleside cum Ugglebarnby
Please note, the service charge is not a fee that we have created it is in effect a booking fee to the advertising company. Great location!!!!!The setting is peaceful and feels like you are away from it all, yet you are handy for Whitby (4 miles). Other beaches like Sandsend, Runswick Bay and Staithes are only a short drive away. We are close to local tourist attractions such as Goathland ( "Heartbeat country") and Grosmont where you can catch the steam train of a bygone era. You feel like you are far from the madding crowd but can be amongst it in no time at all. we are nestled in the valley which is a very sheltered position, with beautiful views over the hills of the National Park.ALL COTTAGES TRIMMED FOR THE FESTIVE SEASON DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER.From November to March the cottages are priced to entice couples for a winter break.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottages are newly converted with full commercial hot water and gas central heating and all up to date thermal regulations, making sure your winter stay is very cosy. There is also the added benefit of a log burning stove for that romantic feel but you will not need it to feel warm. A dog washing facility has been installed from January 2016.

Lovely, luxury stay at this cosy cottage
Myself and my partner had a lovely stay here. The cottage is perfectly kitted out, the kitchen was particularly good and the shower was amazing. It was an ideal spot to explore the wider area, only an hour away from York and 10 minutes from Whitby, I’d definitely recommend staying here if you are after a peaceful getaway.
We are so pleased you had a lovely stay in Mr Ralphs Cottage. You would be very welcome again should you ever wish to re-visit.
Spectacular Cottage, Breathtaking Views, Perfect in Every Way!
On arrival at Mr Ralph’s Cottage, we were met by the owners in the beautiful courtyard.
The cottage and courtyard were tastefully decorated for Christmas, with real trees and gorgeous lights.
Robert and Julie showed us inside the cottage, offering useful advice on appliances, the log burner and the surrounding area.
The cottage was exactly as described and photographed, with the addition of a traditionally decorated Christmas Tree.
The furnishings were superb, with antique pieces dotted around the cottage.
Everything was immaculate, the carpets, rugs, sofa, cupboards and their contents.
It is immediately apparent, the care taken by the owners after each guest leaves.
Plates, glasses, pans etc were all gleaming.
The bedding was crisp and white, the bed was a joy to sleep in, ultimate luxury!
There were plenty of fluffy white towels too.
The shower was fabulous, extremely powerful and hot.
The views from the windows were breathtaking.
You would never believe that this was a dog friendly cottage, it really was immaculate throughout.

Great location, lovely cottage and friendly people.
Myself, my husband, my 3 month old and large dog stayed at Mr Ralph's cottage for 3 nights. We all loved it and were made to feel welcome. The cottage is immaculate and has everything you would need as a home away from home. Great location for us too, so we could visit Whitby and other coastal areas. Would love to stay there again, possibly in one of the bigger cottages as our baby grows.
