Millside Cottage is situated in a peaceful location with fabulous views over Loch Awe. Outside, the garden has a lawn with garden furniture, a perfect place to sit with a drink and relax or to have a barbecue. The cottage is built in a traditional style with the two bedrooms upstairs. One is a twin room, the other a double. Downstairs you'll find a sitting room with a wood burning stove, ideal to relax in front of at the end of the day. Also downstairs is a kitchen/dining room with plenty of space to prepare and enjoy food. The utility room has the washing machine and there is a family bathroom (new November 2015) plus separate WC. There is a private garden at both the front and rear of the property. There is a covered area at the back where you can keep walking kit, boots, logs, barbecue equipment, bikes, life jackets etc. The cottage and front garden face West and you can enjoy spectacular evening sunsets over the loch from every room as well as outside. We have unlimited BT broadband - for those that can't completely switch off.

About EMMA MCGRIGOR
I have lived here on the farm all my life. I am married to Jamie (who was also brought up on Loch Awe on a neighbouring farm) and we have 6 children. We are both very knowledgeable about the area and can give you endless ideas of how to spend your days in Argyll.
EMMA MCGRIGOR purchased this Cottage in 1949
Why EMMA MCGRIGOR chose Inveraray
Millside Cottage has been part of our farm for just under 100 years now. There used to be a working Mill which you can see the remains of on the far side of the burn alongside the cottage. I live just over a mile away in the farmhouse.
What makes this Cottage unique
Millside has a unique position in that it is both secluded and also has access to public transport if necessary. There are ospreys in the area and you will quite possibly find red deer in the field in the morning when you open your curtains. There is good fishing, pike, salmon, trout, perch, on the Loch and permits are available locally. You can fish with the owners permission in front of the cottage Salmon rods on the River Awe are available separately, do please ask us.

Good location, with a view over the Loch. Cottage in traditional style.
We booked this cottage to walk Ben Nevis Easter Sunday, for which we had amazing weather. The cottage has everything you need but is pretty basic. It has free standing radiators and once all on and log burner lit, it was cosy. (Sitting room radiator needs upgrading) Beds/bedding were comfortable, towels provided. TV with sky. Garden front and back (good for dogs).
I would recommend this cottage.
We spent three nights in the cottage and had a great wee break away from the hustle and bustle of normal life the cottage was lovely and clean and had everything we needed Emma was very helpful and the perfect owner.Would recommend Millside without hesitation Garry Lorraine and Paul
Beautiful cosy cottage with wonderful views
Spend a lovely long weekend here with my family. The cottage was clean and cosy and had everything we needed for a self catering break. Emma was very helpful throughout the booking process and kept in touch over our stay to ensure we had all we needed.
The cottage is old, but very charming and we loved the traditional style that was exactly what we were looking for. The views from the cottage over Loch Awe are simply stunning and despite the weather we headed over to the loch for some fishing.
Very close to Oban where we headed for a day out but was nice to return to out rural cottage for cosy night in.
Fabulous weekend, kids did'nt want to come home!!
Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location!
Millside Cottage is a beautiful old stone cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is very homely and comfortable. It has a lovely little wood burning stove, which we lit every night. The only thing I would change is that it needs a shower!
We would whole heartedly recommend Emma and all of her cottages!
Emma and her children are extremely friendly and relaxed, but also very mindful that the cottage is yours while you're staying there
Our disappointment with Millside Cottage
We cut our stay short due to the brown water coming out of all taps in the property and also
our disappointment with the general lack of upkeep.Apparently the discoloured water is prevalent to all private water supplies in the area.
This was not made known to us at the time of booking.
Thank you for your review,
There is information on my site about the possibility of peat colour in the water at times of high rainfall.
I also emailed these guests in advance to ensure they had read this and to inform them I supply unlimited, free of charge, 5L bottles of unopened Tesco water at times when the peat is visible
The guests were fine with this.
They left after 2 days, I think really this was due to the rain we were having. They were unbelievably unkind and impolite, but a holiday is a holiday. It is vital a holiday is enjoyable so I gave them a full refund and did everything I could to help.
This review is unfair. The cottage is lovely, cosy and welcoming. All properties in this area on private supplies have peat in their water when we have heavy/torrential rainfall. At other times it is clear.
The water is tested rigorously each year by the Council.
Very attractive cottage.
We found Emma very helpful and very obliging.
We did try to text her on the morning of our departure, but it appears that our text was not transmitted.
Special interest holidays:
Salmon fishing on the River Awe may be possible if arranged with owner in advance of arrival. This incurs additional cost per rod and a ghillie is also available if required for instruction.
Stalking in season, as above.
Approximately 2 minute walk to the shores of Loch Awe. A burn (stream) runs past the cottage to the loch (great for paddling, dam building, trout spying)
Millside Cottage can be reached either via Glasgow (A82), Loch Lomond, Inveraray where you turn right for Dalmally and proceed for a further 11 miles or via Stirling (A84), Callander, Dalmally, turning left 1 mile beyond Dalmally onto Inveraray road (A819) and proceed for further 4 miles. Millside Cottage has a private drive with sign and is set 50 yards from main road. Sat Navs are not reliable.
You see the cottage set back from the road.
Dalmally and Lochawe villages - 5 miles
Inveraray - 11 miles
Taynuilt - 15 miles
Oban - 25 miles
Glencoe - 25 miles
There are local village shops in Dalmally and Lochawe. The shop in Dalmally will deliver groceries if you phone them in advance as will Tesco from Oban (online).
The cottage has a large folder with leaflets about everything and anything going on locally, and there is a weekly paper The Oban Times as well - but it is worth pointing out that it is not necessary to drive miles to be entertained. The loch has islands with ruined castles to discover, crannogs to spot, beaches for picnics, and the hill that opens up behind the house is but a short climb to get spectacular views down the loch and towards The Isle of Mull in the distance.
