About Sue Greig
Sue lives in Glencaple (just around the corner from the Flat) with her husband Rob. Rob and Sue are both now retired and are enjoying it very much! They moved to Glencaple 13 years ago (Sue grew up in the area) after living in cities most of their lives and spending a large part of their careers travelling the world. They now enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the area.
Sue Greig purchased this Apartment in 2013
Why Sue Greig chose Dumfries
Sue and Rob bought the property to renovate and rent as a holiday home so that others could enjoy the delights of the area. Everything is here for a wonderful Scottish holiday especially if you are a nature lover - the scenery, bird-watching and wildlife are superb. Glencaple is only five miles from Dumfries and is perfectly situated - rural yet not remote. You can be in the depths of Galloway in an hour; in Glasgow in an hour and a half and Carlisle in 40 minutes.
What makes this Apartment unique
Although small, the property is very comfortable, well-laid out and easily managed. The kitchen is very well equipped but you can always pop round the corner to the local hotel or tearoom if you don't feel like cooking.

This was a perfect little flat to get away from it all. The flat contains everything you need.
This property has everything you need. We wanted for nothing, beautiful scenery and walk right on the doorstep. The Nith Hotel does delicious meals and the staff and locals are really friendly when we went in for a drink. Coming back to the log fire was a treat. Lovely stay and i would highly recommend.
Very lovely review much appreciated. It’s certainly handy having the Nith Hotel right next door!
Glencaple at Christmas
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lovely cosy flat which contained everything we needed and set in a great location at Glencaple. Close to our relatives in Dumfries and lovely scenery around Caerlaverock and surrounds. Would definitely recommend it to any couple/single looking for accommodation just outside of Dumfries. Thanks Sue and Rob.
Thank you for your kind review. It was a pleasure to have you stay. Enjoy the rest of your travels!
Chill few days
This is a lovely little flat with everything you need and very peaceful
Very glad you enjoyed your time in Glencaple and enjoyed a peaceful break. Sue.
Great location for visiting Dumfries and Galloway
The cottage was in a great location close to the river Nith, very peaceful with a lovely walk along the riverbank (when the rain stopped!) The Nith Hotel on the corner was great value for excellent food and the Boathouse cafe restaurant across the road was lovely for a drink with great views.
The cottage itself was perfect for 2 people. There was a spacious bedroom and reasonable sized sitting room and a small but well equipped kitchen. The unusual bathroom layout was fine and the shower was good and spacious.
The bed was very comfortable although the sofa was a little old. The heating was easy to operate which we had to use as the weather wasn't great despite it being August.
It was easy to access using the code provided.
Dumfries was a short drive away for shopping/supermarkets.
Dear Anne-Marie. Thank you so much for your review. Very glad you enjoyed your stay in Glencaple but pity the weather wasn't better. You are right about the sofa - it had passed its sell by date! New one delivered yesterday.
We had a pleasant stay in an absolutely beautiful part of Scotland.
Thank you Andrea - your review is much appreciated.
Beautiful sandy beaches in Galloway are a 45 minutes drive away. Plenty of riverside and coastal walks locally. The Nith is a tidal river and has the second largest tidal drop in the UK after the Severn. Look out for the bore!
Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle airports are about 1 hour 45 minutes away. To make the most of your visit a car is essential.
The nearest town is Dumfries which is 5 miles away. Caerlaverock Castle and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Reserve are 2 and 3 miles away.
The Nith Hotel, just round the corner, serves bar meals as well as lunches and dinners in their restaurant every day. And the recently opened Boathouse café/shop on the Quay serves coffees, teas and lunches from 10 am till 4pm. A travelling Post Office visits Glencaple twice a week and sets up in the village hall. Dumfries is well-served with supermarkets, banks and shops. The nearest supermarkets are Lidl and Morrisons. Lots of good restaurants and cafes in and around Dumfries - our favourites are Loch Arthur (Beeswing), Casa Mia, Primo Piano, Home, Mrs Greens Tearoom, Nona Lou's, Polka Dot (all in Dumfries) and Del Amitri (in Powfoot) a half hours drive away). Tasting some of the superb local produce will be the highlight of your visit.
Nearest bank is in Dumfries.
Plenty of gentle walking and hill walking in the area as well as birdwatching fishing, golfing, cycling, mountain biking. Spectacular scenery and wildlife.
Dumfries and Galloway is becoming famous for its Arts and Music Festivals including the Big Burns Supper, Spring Fling, Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival and many more.
