About the property

Open plan living/dining/kitchen, bedroom, en suite shower room, garden, parking

The Old Ration Shop is a cottage for two. White and bright, stylish and contemporary with Farrow and Ball colours, designer fabrics and a good mix of old and modern complemented with original art, plus all the mod cons for a comfortable year round holiday. Views are of farmland, cliffs and sea glimpses beyond. The South West coastal path is nearby (approximately 7 minutes walk) offering beautiful walks in both directions passing fabulous beaches and overlooking the bluest of seas. The Halzephron Inn, the perfect place to watch the sunset, is a short stroll away with views over Mounts Bay and Fishing Cove.

The Old Ration Shop is arranged over two floors and is attached on one side to the owners cottage. There is a private enclosed Mediterranean style garden.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for a wonderful stay at The Old Ration Shop, we absolutely adored it. It was so kind of you to leave us easter treats and scones too, such a nice touch. I hope to visit again in the future.

Ideal for couples - so near coastal path for walking - bed so comfortable - welcoming cream tea and hospitable charming owners - beautiful peaceful attractive interior and little suntrap courtyard for outside eating. Second visit in bright hot blue skied June sunshine, first was in colder grey skied rainy windy March couple of years back, but this is a great base for a peaceful beautiful interesting part of Cornwall. Amazing views, wildflowers, birds and butterflies.

Perfect for a romantic getaway from it all

  • 5 of 5

What an a absolutely perfect little cottage this was to spend a few nights in, unwind and de-stress from everyday life?! Perfectly placed for exploring the stunning beaches and coves along this coast and stunning walks along coastal paths too. The local pub was friendly and welcoming too and I can particularly recommend the 'mulled cider'! Will definitely be back again next year

Cornish holiday bliss.

  • 5 of 5

This beautifully presented cottage offered us all we could have wished for. An ideal retreat for two , but within easy reach of the sea, supermarkets, and not least, a good pub with excellent food and sea views. The cottage is easily accessible by car from Helston or Penzance, with parking close to the front (or was it the back?) door. In side it is simply decorated but with every mod con available.

Amanda and her husband were welcoming and helpful.

If we could have picked it up and taken it away we would have done. As that is not possible I suspect we will return again as soon as possible!

lovely cottage in a rural area close to the see

  • 5 of 5

The old ration shop is a stylish cottage, which is lovely decorated in a rural, quiet area. The property was clean and well equiped. There is a own garten place to sit. The owners are friendly and helpful. We were wellcomed with selfmade scones and marmelade.

The cottage is close to the see (about 1/2 mile) and some beaches. The coastpath is also a few hundred meters away, where we did several amazing walking-tours. Close by the property there is a good gastro-pub (Halzephron Inn), where we have got good food and bear. The next bigger town with supermarkets is about 3 miles away.

The Old Ration Shop is an ideal starting-point for excursions and to discover the beautiful province of southwest Cornwall (for example St. Ives, Porthcumo beach and Minack open air theatre, Land's End and Lizard Island).

We enjoyed our stay at The Old Ration Shop very much and can recommend this place to everyone.

Lovely cottage, great location

  • 5 of 5

Immaculate and well equipped holiday cottage in a great location. Ideal for a peaceful relaxing break.

The coastal path is within a few minutes walk from the cottage and we took advantage of this to walk direct from the cottage to both Mullion & Porthleven.

Also right on the dooorstep for all the other walks, fantastic beaches and villages on the Lizard, particularly Kynance Cove & Coverack. Great seafood restaurant at The Lifeboat House, Coverack.

Amanda & Ian are lovely hosts. We loved the cream tea on arrival and the half dozen eggs with brilliant yellow yolks, made fantastic scrambled eggs.

Lovely cottage to come back to at the the end of a day in the fresh Cornish air.

Paradise in Porthleven

  • 5 of 5

Perfect hideaway in a peaceful location. Luxuriously decorated cottage that catered for our every need. The hosts provided everything for a comfortable stay, the outdoor space was more than adequate for enjoying a quiet well deserved glass of wine! We only wish we'd stayed long enough to meet the hens! A place to return to again and again.

Gunwalloe Fishing Cove
Car: recommended

Gunwalloe is a small former fishing village located on the Lizard Peninsular on the coast between Porthleven and Mullion. It's a haven for walkers, surfers, bird watchers and beachcombers. This area has much to offer. Beautiful beaches, picturesque fishing villages and spectacular scenery. Cornwall has many beautiful gardens notably Heligan and The Eden Project, both an hour away. Falmouth is our closest large town (20 minutes) with it's Maritime history and museum. St Ives, home of Tate Modern and numerous galleries and restaurants is 40 minutes away. Our local beach Church Cove has appeared in several TV dramas, the most recent being the BBC's adaptation of the Cornish classic Poldark. The Old Ration Shop is well positioned to explore most of Cornwall.
